do you mean why weren't Wallace and Veronica more demonstrative during that scene, or why did he say he'd miss her? if it's the latter, I think that was just referring to the fact that he assumes she's going to leave town next year for Stanford. if it's the former, then, yeah, that would have been a nice moment for a hug.

this season did fuck up the timing of the main arc, but this episode was decently suspenseful, so I'm hoping the finale will be, too.

crooked ballplayer, I mean.

And yeah, just being more demonstrative, and then they're presumably going to see each other at graduation/parties and during the summer.

aw, graduation parties. i just had a burst of nostalgia. it's true, it was a little dramatic, which might have been hedging of bets in case the show doesn't get renewed.

holy shit, dudes. just, holy shit.

WTF OMG WTF

milo z (mlp), Wednesday, 10 May 2006 02:33 (eighteen years ago) link

They never explained what the deal was with the creepy family, did they - the grandparents of Duncan's baby? They were the ones who posted bail for the nut who was going after Guttenberg, and then they offered a reward for his capture (I thought they were working together or something) - I didn't understand that plotline much.

milo z (mlp), Wednesday, 10 May 2006 02:41 (eighteen years ago) link

no, they didn't really. all we know from earlier in the season is that Meg's parents were abusive and that they had some connection with Lucky.

I sort of think that the end of the episode was Veronica's dream, from the moment Keith shows up alive until the end. it was just so bizarre.

horseshoe (horseshoe), Wednesday, 10 May 2006 02:45 (eighteen years ago) link

the episode RJG posted last about is the last one i've seen and I have to say it's the best veronica mars yet! covering my eyes.. hitting send.. thoughts to come

Tracey Hand (tracerhand), Wednesday, 10 May 2006 02:54 (eighteen years ago) link

Great episode.

Meg's parents hired the guy to find Woody when it became apparent that he was involved in her death. Pretty straightforward.

Just a thoroughly satisfying conclusion to a lot of plot arcs, no matter how stupid the Echolls trial happened to be.

polyphonic (polyphonic), Wednesday, 10 May 2006 04:13 (eighteen years ago) link

so will logan go [in place of keith mars] to nyc with veronica?

drone/a/sore (drone/a/sore), Wednesday, 10 May 2006 04:23 (eighteen years ago) link

I'm curious how they're going to handle the high school to college transition, which has killed many a similar show.

Does this mean that Duncan's baby has the clap?

polyphonic (polyphonic), Wednesday, 10 May 2006 04:46 (eighteen years ago) link

well, I think chlamydia in the mother can cause a baby to experience infection, but that's within the first weeks of its life, so I'd say baby Lilly is in the clear.

horseshoe (horseshoe), Wednesday, 10 May 2006 04:58 (eighteen years ago) link

I am still enjoying this, i am glad it has started to pick back up again after some truly dreadful episodes in the middle.

jeffrey (johnson), Wednesday, 10 May 2006 16:19 (eighteen years ago) link

Taking a break from my self-imposed ILExile, but I have to brag: ahem. (WARNING: PRESCIENT SPOILER.)

Too many threads wrapped up too quickly (as though this finale was for the series?!?! re: VM no longer being lock for making the CW schedule next year), which diluted the OMGness of thee BIG REVEAL. But I refuse -- nay, STRONG REFUSE to believe that Keith might have bought it and that the ending "THE MARS ARE GOING TO DELAWARE NYC!!" was a dream, even if the cinematography was washed out like her actual dream sequences in the episode. But (jone) dayam, V's heartbreak at the airport equals ~*tear*~

Are Logan and Veronica really back together? What was in Kendall's briefcase? Now that Kendall's rich, is she still going to divorce Big Dick and get back together with that one Fitzpatrick guy? What beach is Duncan on? Who won the Kane scholarship? Can Logan and Little Dick still be friends after all this? Who's going to get tagged for the Aaron Echols murder? If Clarence Weidman, Jr. knows how to get in touch with Duncan, does that mean Jake Kane is funding him? Will the newly-rich Logan Echolls give Weevil money to fund his defense for killing Thumper? Is anybody ever going to get convicted of Felix's murder? Will we ever see Logan's Veronica-clone chippy again? Is Lynne Echolls really dead?

J (Jay), Wednesday, 10 May 2006 17:56 (eighteen years ago) link

I would love more Lynn Echolls followup, for sure. She must have had one or two secrets.

I struggle to care what was in Kendall's briefcase, but I just can't. Still, I loved the finale.

horseshoe (horseshoe), Wednesday, 10 May 2006 17:59 (eighteen years ago) link

Can Logan and Little Dick still be friends after all this?

What would prevent them from being friends? Little Dick is not his brother's keeper.

polyphonic (polyphonic), Wednesday, 10 May 2006 18:29 (eighteen years ago) link

The scene with Veronica and Haaron in the elevator was amazing.

polyphonic (polyphonic), Wednesday, 10 May 2006 18:30 (eighteen years ago) link

The cinematography didn't look any different to me when Keith showed up compared to the rest of the episode.

I'm almost disappointed they didn't kill him, really. It seems like that would be a radical move for a series like this. Parents die, but never ones so integral to the series and so connected to the main character - it would be like having the Cohens suddenly die on the OC.

xp - I didn't think about the public linking teh Guttenberg to the bus (only the kiddie-touching), but there's still something unexplained about that situation. Why did they bail out the crazy guy who attacked Woody's daughter?

milo z (mlp), Wednesday, 10 May 2006 19:05 (eighteen years ago) link

Parents die, but never ones so integral to the series and so connected to the main character - it would be like having the Cohens suddenly die on the OC.

It didn't work out too well for Eight Simple Rules....

Keith and Wallace are the spiritual core of the show, imo. Killing either of them off (or getting rid of them) would be a huge mistake on RT's part.

polyphonic (polyphonic), Wednesday, 10 May 2006 19:22 (eighteen years ago) link

Speaking of which, now that Wallace has graduated, why not give the poor kid a job at Mars Investigations? Or maybe it'll close up, what with Lamb potentially being the ex-sherrif.

polyphonic (polyphonic), Wednesday, 10 May 2006 19:24 (eighteen years ago) link

No Keith = no show.

What would prevent them from being friends? Little Dick is not his brother's keeper.

A few thoughts: 1) Little Dick is now going to be totally on his own, since Kendall's got money, Beav is dead, and Big Dick's MIA. Can Little Dick survive financially or otherwise in that situation? 2) Will Little Dick blame Logan and/or Veronica for Beav's death? 3) Will Logan finally wake up and grow the fuck up? (NOTE: Definitely not counting on this one!)

J (Jay), Wednesday, 10 May 2006 19:27 (eighteen years ago) link

The whole season was about disappearing parents--Aaron in jail, the Kanes in exile, Dick Sr. fleeing the country, Dick & Beaver's mom going back to Europe, etc.--so when the plane exploded I had an honest-to-god-what-the-fuck moment. Like, of course this is where it was going, it makes perfect, tragic sense though you'd never expected it. So when Keith turned up alive I was disappointed. Though I suppose I agree with polyphonic and J; it'd be like when Giles left Buffy and that show went to shit.

I thought the finale was terrible, overwrought and ham-fisted where the show is usually cool with moments of genuine weirdness and terror, and far too implausible. It felt like they conveniently rewrote several characters and wrapped up too many loose ends.

"My name is CASSIDY" ugh.

Sentenza says, You're not digging (witchy), Wednesday, 10 May 2006 21:34 (eighteen years ago) link

hmm, i liked "My name is Cassidy." It was the only part of that entire scene that rung true to me.

I guess I've arrived at a point where I've stopped expecting the show to make any sense or have any real consistency of character.

polyphonic (polyphonic), Wednesday, 10 May 2006 21:38 (eighteen years ago) link

I would add that if I was under the impression that my father had been blown up in a plane explosion, I would probably not go to sleep. I would probably be at the airport waiting for news.

polyphonic (polyphonic), Wednesday, 10 May 2006 21:40 (eighteen years ago) link

Meg's parents hired the guy to find Woody when it became apparent that he was involved in her death. Pretty straightforward.

This was the mystery though: WHY was it apparent to Meg's parents Woody was involved in the bus crash? He was never a suspect, except at Mars Investigations, and even then pretty late. And the janitor had been harassing the Goodmans for awhile. So the implication was that the cabal of parents with dead kids that was set up in the first episode knew something we were meant to find out, only... we didn't.

Sentenza says, You're not digging (witchy), Wednesday, 10 May 2006 21:43 (eighteen years ago) link

I liked it, if it turns out to be the last ever episode I'm going to try to convince myself that the Keith dies/dream-ending idea upthread is what actually happened, because that's loads better.

The bit with the briefcase - really lazy way to try to create suspense. But I did like the bit in the dream at the beginning where the writers took the piss out of the parallel universe cliche where a much loved character has something horrible happen to them because a seemingly meaningless event never happened ("Wallace Fennell? You didn't hear...?")

Cressida Breem (neruokruokruokne?), Wednesday, 10 May 2006 21:44 (eighteen years ago) link

Also--just to keep the complaints rolling--dramatically this episode was way off. Keith has just been killed in an explosion, Beaver has jumped off the roof to his death, Aaron has been assassinated, and now here's the really BIG scene: Jackie confessing she hasn't been entirely truthful about being a barista?!

Sentenza says, You're not digging (witchy), Wednesday, 10 May 2006 21:59 (eighteen years ago) link

Haha, great point.

polyphonic (polyphonic), Wednesday, 10 May 2006 22:05 (eighteen years ago) link

This was the mystery though: WHY was it apparent to Meg's parents Woody was involved in the bus crash? He was never a suspect, except at Mars Investigations, and even then pretty late.

I'm guessing that Lamb either put out an APB for Woody in connection with the bus crash (subtlety never was his strongpoint), or actually called the Megs himself. Reno isn't his jurisdiction, so someone other than he would have to find the guy.

polyphonic (polyphonic), Wednesday, 10 May 2006 22:13 (eighteen years ago) link

I saw this show for the first time last night. All I have to say is that there sure are a lot of vampires in Sunnyvale.

jaymc (jaymc), Wednesday, 10 May 2006 22:17 (eighteen years ago) link

What the briefcase holds doesn't matter. (FYI, it's Marcellus Wallace's soul.) What does matter with the briefcase is that because of it, Keith stood up Veronica!

c(''c) (Leee), Wednesday, 10 May 2006 22:42 (eighteen years ago) link

yeah, the dream about graduation if Lilly hadn't died was maybe the best part of the episode. is it wrong that I thought Wallace looked hot with the glasses? I hope that actor is at least 18...

Have just checked, he's 23. Younger than me, but only by a month, fantastic.

Cressida Breem (neruokruokruokne?), Thursday, 11 May 2006 01:40 (eighteen years ago) link

I just assumed the briefcase was filled with money.

milo z (mlp), Thursday, 11 May 2006 02:45 (eighteen years ago) link

this ep. phew. heavy stuff and lots of

I didn't realise it was the finale! wasn't ready for it all to come to a head

so many diff things happening

didn't really like aaron being killed and duncan on a beach (just don't like duncan, really)

beav...

didn't see it coming at all. even thought veronica might be wrong, when she was first calling mac. so many fake outs. what a bad wee guy! thought the "my name is CASSIDY" was fine but it seemed designed to make you feel a bit "sorry" for him or "understand" him or "something" but he was just a bad wee guy, in the end

I don't think I have much more to say about the ep, just now!

however

___________________________________________________________________

what are most of you guys talking about?

the beach duncan was on was one in australia like they managed to make the words on the screen say as we saw him on the beach. don't think we would have been able to see kendall and her briefcase and have the opportunity to wonder what on earth could possibly be in it (I think there's a small chance that there might have been some money in it) if it had been a dream and keith were really dead

this show would not be better, for keith dying

the move to new york looks set, w/ jackie and wallace there and veronica on her way. who else will go w/? keith? logan? v possible. less likely: cliff

: (

would be a shame and I would miss characters like eli and lamb and cliff and so on. I forget that there are so many characters

yeah, logan's mum could be back and veronica's, of course. someone mentioned weevil's trial for killing thumper--I never really thought he died! thought he was tied up in a toilet somewhere else, like the fpatrick bar. would they have been able to have a telly on in somewhere primed for demolition I don't really think so. the fpatricks, too--doesn't seem like there was any kind of conclusion, there, either

maybe we could have another season, in neptune, and veronica can defer entry to stanford and work a summer and we can have our loose ends tied up and free up weevil and cliff and people to move to new york

RJG (RJG), Thursday, 11 May 2006 18:25 (eighteen years ago) link

There are no signs of a New York move. Jackie might be there, but Wallace has a scholarship in Neptune (and come on, Jackie isn't a loss to the series), Keith and Veronica are just going there on vacation.

milo z (mlp), Thursday, 11 May 2006 18:29 (eighteen years ago) link

oh, shit, yeah

I went on that tangent because I thought wallace would stay w/ jackie and because of that began thinking stanford was in new york and that it was all ready

I take back all my new york talk

jackie would be no great loss, no

RJG (RJG), Thursday, 11 May 2006 18:33 (eighteen years ago) link

Thumper's dead. He was tied up the restroom of a stadium that was demolished.

Not enough wonderment at my forward-thinking brane, possibly because people are hyperlink adverse, so stand in awe of me now:

I bet it was the Beave who sabotaged the bus~

well done, though!

if thumper was in the stadium, that's a bit weird

RJG (RJG), Thursday, 11 May 2006 21:35 (eighteen years ago) link

Thumper was in the stadium - the people blowing the stadium up found his bike in the carpark, but left it there because they didn't want to postpone the demolition.

Cressida Breem (neruokruokruokne?), Thursday, 11 May 2006 22:38 (eighteen years ago) link

I remember that

RJG (RJG), Thursday, 11 May 2006 22:40 (eighteen years ago) link

watching that ep back, yeah, there was something about the way it was put together that made me think that thumper was watching the demolition on a telly (knowing his bike was inside) in the bathroom and he was not--he was looking up because he heard distant booms and not because he saw the demolition on a telly even though that's how it kind of looked

sorry, again!

RJG (RJG), Thursday, 11 May 2006 22:47 (eighteen years ago) link

polyphonic (polyphonic), Thursday, 11 May 2006 22:59 (eighteen years ago) link

I like the sound of this -

Question: It seems pretty obvious that Veronica will be at Hearst College next year and the serial rapist story line will also show up again. Can you give us some other clues about what to look forward to next season? — Jessica

Thomas: The biggest news is that we will be going to a three-mystery-per-season format next year. This way, the mysteries will play uninterrupted by repeats or preemptions. We're hoping this will help us cast guest stars in smaller arcs, allow newbies to jump in easier, and lessen the too-much-going-on complaint we heard in Season 2.

milo z (mlp), Thursday, 11 May 2006 23:16 (eighteen years ago) link

yeah, I don't really think Keith being alive was a dream, but the end of the episode felt a little weird to me.

and yes, they fixed things so that Wallace, Veronica, and Logan will all be in Neptune next year, at the very least. Weevil will probably be in jail--sob!
