The thing is I can't disagree with a lot of the points people are making, I just feel like the internet creates such a shitstorm around anything not 100% pure. Like basically the video strikes me as an effective way of getting across a point about a kind of harassment that, fwiw, is not only suffered by white women, but everything just gets hijacked and clusterfucked to death if it fails any test. And I have a problem ideologically with the idea that a "privileged white woman" should just stfu about being harassed and intimidated on the street if it happens to come more often from black or latino men, which is really the tone of a lot of stuff I have read about this.

I was going to try and walk it one day but in the end I decided it was too far and also the weather wasnt helping

obviously most white people are not out there in the trenches saying "that one's gotta go, time to jack up the rent" but that doesn't mean you can't be complicit in a social order that produces those outcomes; this is why the "malicious intent" argument holds so little water

Yeah but I have read more than one person arguing that this guy literally made the video to push some kind of gentrifier/anti-minority agenda. Honestly a lot of the other internet discussions I've been involved in about this included a lot of women both white and non-white saying they've experienced far worse harassment on the street - intimidation, following, threats, etc, that the video just scratches the surface, and I think it honestly kind of fucking sucks that people are hijacking a basically effective video to do what to me sounds like "I'm such a good grad student"-level race analysis (parallels to colonial America!). Like yes, point out the racial issues, point out that the video seems to focus on minority men, but don't use that to guilt women who are complaining about being harassed to shut up, and that's really what I feel like this is turning into.
