CurrentC hacked already!

MCX, the company behind CurrentC, sent out the email on Wednesday, revealing that its security systems were breached by unauthorized third parties within the last 36 hours. The company says its investigations suggest that only users' email addresses were obtained, but not any additional information.

Multiple AppleInsider readers sent a copy of the note that MCX sent to pilot program participants on Wednesday. Currently in trial, CurrentC is expected to launch at some point in 2015.

The system has found itself in the midst of a controversy over both Apple Pay and Google Wallet, as retailers participating in CurrentC are forbidden from offering alternative mobile payment systems. As a result, both Rite Aid and CVS shut down their NFC-based payment systems this past weekend, blocking the recently launched Apple Pay.

I've had the iPhone 6 for about two weeks and it's cracked :( I don't even know how it happened. i was going to get a fucking case! But now it's too late. ;__;

Je55e, Wednesday, 29 October 2014 18:12 (eleven years ago)

Guessing it happened when somebody parked to close to a car I was getting into and I had to squeeze between them.

Je55e, Wednesday, 29 October 2014 18:13 (eleven years ago)

Seems awfully delicate. Will Apple show pity?

Je55e, Wednesday, 29 October 2014 18:14 (eleven years ago)

whoa, that sux. Have you taken it to the apple store? If you explain to them what happened they might replace the screen or the phone free.

my jaw left (Hurting 2), Wednesday, 29 October 2014 18:14 (eleven years ago)

maybe the particular screen had a flaw, does seem like that shouldn't have happened

my jaw left (Hurting 2), Wednesday, 29 October 2014 18:15 (eleven years ago)

Buy Applecare and you can then get it replaced for like $75 or w/e the deductible is

, Wednesday, 29 October 2014 18:15 (eleven years ago)

is it the screen? if you look upthread I already busted mine. $75 + tax if you have applecare+, $110 if you do not

⌘-B (mh), Wednesday, 29 October 2014 18:27 (eleven years ago)

Does applecare actually give you a new phone unlike shitty ass asurion refurbished bullshit?

my jaw left (Hurting 2), Wednesday, 29 October 2014 18:28 (eleven years ago)

also, if they have the capacity it's like a 45 minute replacement

the people in your suburb of schaumburg were very helpful

⌘-B (mh), Wednesday, 29 October 2014 18:28 (eleven years ago)

oh you mean screen replacement

my jaw left (Hurting 2), Wednesday, 29 October 2014 18:28 (eleven years ago)

I've never had any problems with Apple refurbs, and they have an additional refurb warranty

for broken glass on the new phones, they replace the glass and hand your phone back to you

⌘-B (mh), Wednesday, 29 October 2014 18:29 (eleven years ago)

like if for any reason the refurb is not as good it has a 90 day warranty on top of whatever warranty you have

⌘-B (mh), Wednesday, 29 October 2014 18:30 (eleven years ago)

whoa, that sux. Have you taken it to the apple store? If you explain to them what happened they might replace the screen or the phone free.

I haven't taken it in yet - I just discovered it last night. I think I signed up for Assurion crap, but I forgot that Applecare (plus?) now covers accidents.

iPhone 6 is hard to use one handed

, Saturday, 1 November 2014 15:15 (eleven years ago)

MOTHERFUUUUUUUCK dropped it on concrete and broke the screen FUUUUUCK

my jaw left (Hurting 2), Sunday, 2 November 2014 01:56 (eleven years ago)

This versh is the first one I've felt paranoid about dropping

, Sunday, 2 November 2014 01:58 (eleven years ago)

What if I just downgrade to a 5S

, Sunday, 2 November 2014 01:59 (eleven years ago)

Would you still love me

, Sunday, 2 November 2014 01:59 (eleven years ago)

I had a case on it too, one of those spiegen "slim" cases, totally worthless

my jaw left (Hurting 2), Sunday, 2 November 2014 02:06 (eleven years ago)

5S vastly superior product, says unnamed Apple employee in the family. Also confirmed a physical damaged screen repair $109, less w/ AppleCare.

moonstone (soda), Sunday, 2 November 2014 04:09 (eleven years ago)

You can replace yourself for <$109 ime

buy five rucksack-sized bags of meat, stack them vertically, pierce the top one with a carrot so it looks like a nose

schlump, Sunday, 2 November 2014 05:29 (eleven years ago)

croup will tell those bags o meat exactly why they are wrong and I will read it during reruns of The Office

Was thinking about it maybe fuck it, get an iPhone 5s

But it'll probably only be current and adequate through the next two years at most before it's slow

Don't think Apple is gonna go smaller any time soon unless in 3+ years with like an 'iPhone mini" (lol)

Think I'll try to stick it out with the 6

Might as well learn to love the bomb imo

, Sunday, 2 November 2014 12:09 (eleven years ago)

But it'll probably only be current and adequate through the next two years at most before it's slow

Only if you constantly upgrade.

TracerHandVEVO (Tracer Hand), Sunday, 2 November 2014 16:43 (eleven years ago)

It's a very nice phone but, as I've mentioned elsewhere on ilx, dropping it face down on a rock does not bode well

⌘-B (mh), Sunday, 2 November 2014 16:46 (eleven years ago)

xp App developers almost always shoot for the high end - you find your apps stop being upgradable or usable, not being able to get new apps designed for the latest iOS, etc. I just upgraded from a 4S so I was starting to feel that. I used to run an old iPod touch that was obsoleted for years

Nhex, Sunday, 2 November 2014 18:13 (eleven years ago)

I like my 6 more than my wife's 5s, in spite of it being fucking cracked right now. Really it does make me kind of angry at myself that I didn't just get one of those "goofy" cases. But the whole thing kind of makes me angry -- I'm going to wind up having spent about $500 on this thing (subsidized) with the screen repair and the SECOND case I will now be buying since my first one was worthless.

my jaw left (Hurting 2), Sunday, 2 November 2014 19:29 (eleven years ago)

you probably dropped it b/c you were holding it wrong

Spirit of Match Game '76 (silby), Sunday, 2 November 2014 19:50 (eleven years ago)

You need to magnetize your hand - takes about a week

, Sunday, 2 November 2014 19:57 (eleven years ago)

Nah it actually fell out of the car off the seat -- I never drop my phone when actually holding it.

my jaw left (Hurting 2), Sunday, 2 November 2014 20:04 (eleven years ago)

Magnetizing a car takes longer

, Sunday, 2 November 2014 20:07 (eleven years ago)

Pretty sure there are very few, if any cases that will protect against a screen crack/shatter. I don't assume protection with my case, I just need it because the phone is so slippery.

Jeff, Sunday, 2 November 2014 20:12 (eleven years ago)

I'm loving my 6+ but it feels like a whole different category of thing from my 5s - it's much more like a baby iPad. In fact, I haven't touched my iPad since I got it.

I might have big enough hands or something? idk. It's definitely a bit too slippy, and trying to take photos one-handed I've just discovered can be a bit awkward. Battery life's amazing, though.

my new case, if the screen cracks you get a free banana

― Jeff, Sunday, 2 November 2014 20:12 (7 minutes ago) Permalink

Well I would think if it just protruded a bit beyond the screen it would prevent the screen from making direct contact with the pavement (although not a sharp rock). Downside is that that makes the phone uglier and less comfortable to use. But the fact that it only fell like 3-4 feet and shattered, I would think there are cases that could at least have prevented that.

my jaw left (Hurting 2), Sunday, 2 November 2014 20:21 (eleven years ago)

Imagine if Steve jobs had had giant hands - we could have had an iPhone 6 from the beginning

xps yeah, i always use super cheapo bendy plastic cases, and they protect from falls

Nhex, Sunday, 2 November 2014 22:09 (eleven years ago)

I have the Apple leather case for my 6plus and so far so good, I am an inveterate dropper of phones. I do need to get an otterbox or similar for biking.

Beats was bought by Apple, and they expressed direct interest in me designing some products with them. I can't go into details, but I feel like I'm in a unique position where I could be of benefit to them. That does mean some compromises in terms of how much brain power goes toward music and creating. This is very creative work that's not directly making music, but it's around music.

So, recommend me a good case that provides at least some drop protection without being hueg?

my jaw left (Hurting 2), Monday, 3 November 2014 20:46 (eleven years ago)

I like the Tech21 ones, but they aren't that small... I had a smaller one, but dropping it on a corner broke the screen anyway. I've dropped my phones a few times with the Tech21 cases, and they haven't broken.

schwantz, Monday, 3 November 2014 21:07 (eleven years ago)

They just have to make phones that don't break at the slightest bit of contact. What do we have 3 smashed iphone 6s so fat on the thread? Even the 5c, which is relatively robust, why not just make the case project a mm around the glass so you don't need a case?

Nancy Whank (jed_), Monday, 3 November 2014 22:09 (eleven years ago)

Nancy Whank (jed_), Monday, 3 November 2014 22:09 (eleven years ago)
