I'll be so happy when we evolve beyond physical interactions so people will quit bemoaning the inevitable death of it and just accept their fate.

OK let's entertain for entertainment the fact that her "Music should not be free" stern balled editorial wasn't corporate shilling and just the regular blazayblah opinion probably most people on the street might have if you pressed them on this subject of i.p rights and internet downloads that they don't often think about and have never dl'd a song for free in their life. Let's also ignore, for the moment, the fact she's from a rich family a stock broker father and Merril Lynch financial wealth management adviser of millions of dollars. Let's also ignore, for a second, that generation of her grandfathers are banking presidents. Let's also put aside the fact Taylor's parents have been shaping and controlling and market managing her pop career since she was 14, setting up merchendising companies in her name, alienating people with that alleged arrogance and 'pay as little as possible and treat people like shit' attitude.

Let's put all that aside for a brief moment and reconsider her assertion: "It's my opinion that music should not be free".

And remind ourselves: She's only worth $200 million, guys. She only made $120 million on her last tour. We shouldn't forget that. She's only 24. People at 24 with only hundreds of millions in the bank and millions of adoring merchandise wearing fans can only be asked to give so much. I mean come on, her New York penthouse was only bought for $20 million, how do you expect her to keep up this lifestyle? Music should not be free. Music should not be free. It is my opinion that music should not be free.

Hey, Tom - do you mean "written tics" outside of obvious grammatical errors and poor spelling? (I loved those 3rd-grade-level e-mails I used to get asking if I was selling Dave Matthews Band tickets. I felt like I was in a hi-tech version of Fast Times - "No, I DON'T have any Blue Oyster Cult!")

I've always chafed against constant use of those damn emoticons. You know - ;), :), :P, %). Once in a while, okey dokey. Fifteen times in the same "conversation", I'm about to go alkdjfalkj.

Origin of such things (i.e. "Two words:", "Can you say...") - television. Bane of our existance. Glass tit. Sweet oblivion.

yeah it's pretty standard from-the-vaults type stuff & I was was only gonna include the last paragraph as the tsc part but stuff like "okey dokey" adds so much to the experience, also hints of cunty spelling & grammar nazism followed swiftly by "those blasted emoticons" followed by "existance" is just like, take a bow whoever you are

Sure, I get that about automation and fragility and buying parts - but the espresso people are less "buy a receiver at the pawn shop" and more "my diamond-encrusted cable really allows me to HEAR this section of Pink Floyd's 'The Wall' for the first time."

Mostly no. The difference between the espresso you get out of a top-quality commercial machine like a La Marzocco and out of a substandard quality home machine is enormous. There are pricey but not insanely pricey home machines where you can get pretty close to the Marzocco quality with the right technique. And certain factors in making espresso are pretty well-established -- pressure, temperature, grind, tamping (not to speak of the beans themselves). The best machines are simply able to produce the appropriate pressure and temperature consistently, which is surprisingly difficult. Other bells and whistles can make a difference -- the bottomless portafilter, for example, but there's a pretty commonsense reason for that one -- in a normal portafilter oils from the coffee build up and are hard to clean away. The bottomless portafilter simply eliminates that problem.

So the idea is that if someone is derisively called "politically correct" presumably because they are unnecessarily touchy about things. This displays a lack of self-awareness because if you are upset about someone being PC then you are being unnecessarily touchy imo.

nakhchivan, Monday, 4 May 2015 13:17 (eleven years ago)

Sports writing is and always will be terrible, because sports contests are extremely rule-bound and essentially near duplicates of one another in everything but the outcome of each contest. All the possible stories have been written hundreds of thousands of times. Consequently, sports writers are stuck in horrible dead end jobs they often become wretched unhappy people.

They just need to dig up the Bible verse where Jesus says it's ok to hate people and mess up your home if there's money in it.
