ha thank you,i can't believe it either! where the hell did all that time go? feel really fucked up right now, so much pain from the waist down and my brain feels like a melted candle. at home and just about to go to bed forever, but rooting for the last few guys still out there trying to make the 30 hour cut off. can't imagine being still out there and seeing the minties tick by

recommend me some inexpensive pants (not tights) good for running, current situation so shredded
― lag∞n, Wednesday, 22 October 2014 17:30 (eleven years ago)
btw ive ordered 4 pairs of shoes in the last couple weeks and returned 3 of them and have another pair on the way, ive never been super picky abt fit, like my last pair were comically wide but w/e, but i decided to try to get something that fits me real nice this time, also want to have a couple styles of shoe going at once, i have a wide forefoot and a normal rest of my foot and i like a nice big toe box for my toes to flatten out in, the ones i found that i like the fit are the nb mt810 http://www.newbalance.com/pd/new-balance-trail-810v3/MT810-V3.html#color=Grey_with_Neon Yellow_and_Grey Stone but theyre pretty gnarly trail shoes with treads that are kinda ridiculous for running on pavement, i mostly run on dirt roads anyway so its cool but id like to get some lightweight road shoes thatre fairly minimal, i like to feel the road w/o going totally minimal zero drop etc
so far ive tried the ASICS Men's Gel Lyte33 3 in two diff sizes (cause that shoefitr thing that is a super cool idea but turn out to be kinda sus told me to try a too small size initially) and the nb m1400, both of those are def the style of shoe im after but didnt fit good, the nb was too narrow in the toebox and asics upper was too tight and my foot just sat weird in it
anyway i have a pair of kinvara 4s on the way see how that goes
― lag∞n, Wednesday, 22 October 2014 17:53 (eleven years ago)
No idea on the pants. When winter comes, I'm all tights. Much to my muffin top's dismay.
I tried the Gel Lyte33 3's and they just didn't work for me. I was a big fan of the 2's, but they chopped off some weight and they just became not enough sure to carry the load I'm asking them to carry. I kept getting this feeling like they were just slapping the ground as I ran.
I currently run in Kinvara 5's. Previous Kinvara models never worked for me because of the toe box not being wide enough, but the 5's seem like a perfect fit for me. I rotate 5 pairs currently.
Intrigued by the Hoka Cliftons...
― Jeff, Wednesday, 22 October 2014 18:05 (eleven years ago)
damn shdve ordered the 5s, seduced by sales
― lag∞n, Wednesday, 22 October 2014 18:06 (eleven years ago)
why do u rotate so many btw
― lag∞n, Wednesday, 22 October 2014 18:07 (eleven years ago)
maybe ill just order some 5s rn lol no one can stop meeeee
Usually I just have 3 pairs. It worked out I have 3 close to retirement, hence the two extras for now.
― Jeff, Wednesday, 22 October 2014 18:11 (eleven years ago)
ah so, do u like use the ones at different stags in the lifecycle for different runs or anything
― lag∞n, Wednesday, 22 October 2014 18:14 (eleven years ago)
btw i just ordered 3 pairs of pants and a pair of kinvara 5s amazon prime has driven me insane
― lag∞n, Wednesday, 22 October 2014 18:15 (eleven years ago)
prob return them all
I basically just evenly rotate them. Sometimes I use a fresher pair for a long run, they seem to have more cushioning? Maybe it's just in my head. Other times it's usually when a pair get soaked and won't dry overnight, then I have a backup. Plus I don't want to have to buy shoes every 6-8 weeks, so I'd rather just get a bunch all at once.
― Jeff, Wednesday, 22 October 2014 18:19 (eleven years ago)
ya makes sense i read this running guy sometimes whos really into the concept of rotating different types of shoes so u dont get too habituated to one for injury prevention or something
― lag∞n, Wednesday, 22 October 2014 18:21 (eleven years ago)
Yeah, except mine are all the same identical shoe, maybe with slightly different wear patterns. My body just doesn't deal well with different shoes well. I get used to a brand/model and basically end up getting a bunch of them until they change it and can't wear it anymore.
― Jeff, Wednesday, 22 October 2014 18:30 (eleven years ago)
its weird how companies change their shoes all the time when it enrages people so much, think itd be better to keep popular models the same and just launch new lines if u want to do new stuff
― lag∞n, Wednesday, 22 October 2014 18:32 (eleven years ago)
yep. RIP Brooks PureFlow 1/Ascis Gel Lyte33 2, the last shoes I ran major miles in.
― Jeff, Wednesday, 22 October 2014 18:47 (eleven years ago)
I'm not looking forward to winter runner. But I can't be as inactive as I was last winter.
― Jeff, Wednesday, 22 October 2014 18:50 (eleven years ago)
I tend to have one pair of light trainers for everyday runs and a pair of racer/trainers for speed sessions. I've heard the "different types of shoes" theory before but I dunno how important it is.
― sweet lids of the stars (seandalai), Thursday, 23 October 2014 23:33 (eleven years ago)
I have never heard of multiple pairs of running shoes you guys are nuts
― gbx, Friday, 24 October 2014 21:30 (eleven years ago)
nuts like a fox who is good at running
― lag∞n, Friday, 24 October 2014 21:50 (eleven years ago)
So my half is next Saturday. And due to having to take almost all of last week off because of illness (and still recovery), my expectations are slipping. What was 1:30 to 1:32, went to sub 1:35, down to "just PR if possible and don't die." When you think about it, running and training for races is a relatively simple process. The hard part is actually peaking and being healthy on the day the race happens to be.
― Jeff, Monday, 27 October 2014 15:28 (eleven years ago)
def dont die imo most important aspect people tend to overlook
― lag∞n, Monday, 27 October 2014 15:40 (eleven years ago)
running my first 5 K this weekend. just hoping to do it in about 30 mins, which feels comfortable to me running on my own. any really basic race tips for a first-timer?
― Brio2, Monday, 27 October 2014 16:58 (eleven years ago)
run the first mile real slow, then speed up if youre feeling OK. you'll also prob be surprised by the boost provided by running in a large crowd. it makes a real difference.
― tobo73, Monday, 27 October 2014 17:15 (eleven years ago)
kinvaras didnt work for me theyre a lil narrow but mostly the arch is all wrong, looking for something a lil more minimal anyway, im not putting up big miles these days, only like half of my workouts are running, so dont really need all the padding plus i like to feel the road anyway
― lag∞n, Wednesday, 29 October 2014 17:46 (eleven years ago)
ordered some saucony a6s for my next try lol
― lag∞n, Wednesday, 29 October 2014 17:47 (eleven years ago)
plus i like to feel the road anyway

hi5
― lag∞n, Wednesday, 29 October 2014 19:24 (eleven years ago)
the a6s are promising but wow are they tiny feel like i cld almost size up a whole size, i might just end this cycle of internet shopping and returning and go to a running store and get fitted except i really dont want them to make me run on the treadmill and analyze like my pronation and everything i just want some shoes that conform to my foot is that too much to ask
― lag∞n, Wednesday, 29 October 2014 20:27 (eleven years ago)
Just trying things on and jogging around the shop a bit will tell you a lot about what shoes suit you.
― legit new threat wrt to a norman invasion (seandalai), Wednesday, 29 October 2014 20:31 (eleven years ago)
yeah thats basically what im doing now except for in a long drawn out process that involves unsealing and resealing boxes
― lag∞n, Wednesday, 29 October 2014 20:42 (eleven years ago)
I think I've ordered up to like 6-8 pairs of shoes at a time to test out. It was a lot of boxes to bring home from work.
― Jeff, Wednesday, 29 October 2014 21:06 (eleven years ago)
1:36:52. Way off my goal, but still a PR. I can do better.
― Jeff, Saturday, 1 November 2014 15:25 (eleven years ago)

― erry red flag (f. hazel), Saturday, 1 November 2014 19:04 (eleven years ago)
Been jogging intermittently (roughly 9.5 min miles) over the last year and a half or so. On tonight's jog along the canal, I thought to myself, "hey, why not try for a half-marathon?" The furthest I'd gone previously was about 3/4 of that. (I don't jog/run very scientifically.)
Thanks in part to a killer playlist of Aeroplane remixes, I got it done, in a hair over two hours. It's a start. I'm gonna go die now.
― Simon H., Thursday, 6 November 2014 02:45 (eleven years ago)
Actually I say that but I don't feel quite as awful as I thought I would.
― Simon H., Thursday, 6 November 2014 02:46 (eleven years ago)
Yay, good stuff Simon!
― john wahey (NickB), Thursday, 6 November 2014 06:56 (eleven years ago)
Excellent Simon! I am hoping to come in a hair *under* two hours in a half marathon in January. We will see.
― erry red flag (f. hazel), Thursday, 6 November 2014 15:02 (eleven years ago)
hey ilx running gang, I did my first 5K last weekend. 28 minutes! I was hoping for 30 so I'm stoked. Started running regularly at the beginning of September.
There's a 10 K in December I'm tempted to do - should I go for it? I have six weeks. I'm currently running 3-4 times a week, usually 5K during the week and 6-8 K on the weekend. The 5 k was a great motivator - but I was surprised how beat-up my body felt afterwards. My ultimate goal is just to keep running regularly, so I'm a bit paranoid about overdoing it or injuring myself.
― Brio2, Thursday, 6 November 2014 15:58 (eleven years ago)
yeah theres no need to push it, its super common to get injured when you first start running, and then you cant run any more
