yes I was wondering about the guy on the bmx, will it be something we can ride or will it be along the same lines as the roller skates in vice city.

But it does look good I just hope that R* don't change the excellent formula that the past games have used.

So it's like a Tyrese video?

@d@ml (nordicskilla), Thursday, 13 May 2004 21:27 (twenty years ago) link

I've just come.

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Thursday, 13 May 2004 21:45 (twenty years ago) link

More Pics and info at gtagaming, with also a rather exciting interview with Dan Houser.

So it's not Tommy anymore, some dude called 'Carl'. I like the sound of owning your own Casino.

Ste (Fuzzy), Thursday, 13 May 2004 21:57 (twenty years ago) link

"Entire state of San Andreas included, meaning three cities will be present in the game, each connected by countryside. Los Santos, a fictional Los Angeles, San Fierro, a rendition of San Francisco, and La Venturra, which is the Grand Theft Auto version of Las Vegas. "

@d@ml (nordicskilla), Thursday, 13 May 2004 22:04 (twenty years ago) link

The strangest addition- "You need to eat to retain your stamina. If you eat too much fast food, you become fat and pedestrians mock you for being fat. You also run slower. To remedy this, you can go to a gym to exercise."

Ste (Fuzzy), Thursday, 13 May 2004 22:07 (twenty years ago) link

What's weird about that?

This game sounds extremely realistic.

@d@ml (nordicskilla), Thursday, 13 May 2004 22:14 (twenty years ago) link

Bah, homie shit. Bling-bling-fuck off.

[addressed to San Andreas, not ILx0rz]

Autumn Almanac (Autumn Almanac), Thursday, 13 May 2004 22:14 (twenty years ago) link

Its just so non-gta like, getting fat. Not sure if it's such a great idea but I suppose it depends on how quickly the fat adds on.

Ste (Fuzzy), Thursday, 13 May 2004 22:18 (twenty years ago) link

Trust me, getting fat in games is cool. This is really the next generation here.

@d@ml (nordicskilla), Thursday, 13 May 2004 22:22 (twenty years ago) link

Any news on voice talent yet?

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Thursday, 13 May 2004 22:24 (twenty years ago) link

xpost

That's a Metal Gear Solid: Snake Eater theme too! And ohohohoh I saw brief clips of the new MGS on some telly PS2 advert!

But more to the fat: I'm totally growing large to dispense chubby justice! Plus, fat track suits = hilarity

Leeefuse 73 (Leee), Thursday, 13 May 2004 22:24 (twenty years ago) link

The entire game will be about four to six times as large as Vice City.

Oh. WOW.

Michael Daddino (epicharmus), Thursday, 13 May 2004 22:34 (twenty years ago) link

Size isn't everything, or so they tell me.

Ste (Fuzzy), Thursday, 13 May 2004 22:37 (twenty years ago) link

(yes I know that was cheap, it's v.late and I'm v.tired)

Ste (Fuzzy), Thursday, 13 May 2004 22:39 (twenty years ago) link

I intend for my character to look like this:

Let the "pedestrians laugh!

@d@ml (nordicskilla), Thursday, 13 May 2004 22:44 (twenty years ago) link

Ah, come off it. When it comes to roly-poly gangsters, there's only one man in the game:

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Thursday, 13 May 2004 22:50 (twenty years ago) link

Russell Crowe?

Leeefuse 73 (Leee), Thursday, 13 May 2004 22:52 (twenty years ago) link

Has everyone seen all these super-new screenshots? I can't believe how excited I am about this game. It's getting more and more complex--It's like The Sims with home invasions!

antexit (antexit), Thursday, 13 May 2004 23:35 (twenty years ago) link

Guesses on who plays the voice of the new character? My money's on Ice Cube.

antexit (antexit), Thursday, 13 May 2004 23:36 (twenty years ago) link

How long after the PS2 release do they usually put out the PC version?

Dan I. (Dan I.), Thursday, 13 May 2004 23:38 (twenty years ago) link

I think with Vice City it was like 2 years

antexit (antexit), Thursday, 13 May 2004 23:40 (twenty years ago) link

GUNS NIGGAS

OMG (JMod), Thursday, 13 May 2004 23:44 (twenty years ago) link

I think with Vice City it was like 2 years

Seven months in the US, according to IGN.

Autumn Almanac (Autumn Almanac), Thursday, 13 May 2004 23:48 (twenty years ago) link

They need to get with the people behind Gran Turismo so you can pimp your ride(s).

miloauckerman (miloauckerman), Friday, 14 May 2004 00:12 (twenty years ago) link

I'm actually thinking of buying a playstation just so I can play this game. I played GTA3 GTA:Vice City on PC, but never on PS2. Help me, people, which is better? Are there big differences?

(shit, I've never been so excited about a video game, I'm gangsta trippin)

pingu (gimikz), Friday, 14 May 2004 06:34 (twenty years ago) link

The games looked better on PC than console (like most games do). Also, I've never understood why most people seem to prefer controllers to keyboards for everything, cause in most games, like GTA, I've always found the keyboard so much easier.

Dan I. (Dan I.), Friday, 14 May 2004 06:43 (twenty years ago) link

I have a wish!

In LasVvegas you do missions for "The Boss", Mr. Tommy Vercetti. Maybe you have a conflict with him. I want them to make this shit so interesting and tense and funny, ohmygodohmygod. I just don't want to see Tommy dead, anything else is fine.

pingu, Friday, 14 May 2004 06:50 (twenty years ago) link

Are there big differences?

Your comfortable chairs already point at your TV? Also it'll be out first on the PS2. Also the analog controller is better for some of the fiddly stuff.

The PS3 will be out sometime next year or the year after, but there's a decent chance that it'll be backwards compatible. Also it's not like they'll stop making PS2 games: they still make Playstation games.

Your concern for an imaginary murderer is touching :)

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Friday, 14 May 2004 07:05 (twenty years ago) link

my problem with PC games is my system has never been sharp enough to run them efficiently - always with the hangs, the slowdowns, etc. have never had that experience with my playstation.

stevie (stevie), Friday, 14 May 2004 07:24 (twenty years ago) link

I thought the ps2 control system for Vice City was just perfect. Whereas the one on True Crimes just frustrated me to bits. I can't see San Andreas being too different from VC so I recommend getting a PS2, plus it doesn't crash all the time like PC's. *ducks*

Ste (Fuzzy), Friday, 14 May 2004 07:29 (twenty years ago) link

wow, really, wow.

I spent the whole of my time in Miami spotting Vice city locations, I'm going to have to go to three cities after this? sheesh!

chris (chris), Friday, 14 May 2004 07:36 (twenty years ago) link

the Dan Houser article has been updated, well it has since I last looked anyway.

Swimming, oh yes, SWIMMING!

Ste (Fuzzy), Friday, 14 May 2004 12:38 (twenty years ago) link

my eyes are bleeding at the very thought of this game

chris (chris), Friday, 14 May 2004 12:45 (twenty years ago) link

it looks good. keep the faith.

cozen (Cozen), Friday, 14 May 2004 16:05 (twenty years ago) link

Also it's not like they'll stop making PS2 games: they still make Playstation games.

They still make PS1 games, seriously? And people buy them?

Jordan (Jordan), Friday, 14 May 2004 16:38 (twenty years ago) link

Hell yes. It's only in the last year or so in Japan that the Xbox started beating the PS1 on a week by week basis. I think it's mostly cheap cash-ins for kids (in the west, anyway).

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Friday, 14 May 2004 17:05 (twenty years ago) link

time to lay money on odds for voices/songs used in the game:

I vote that Ice Cube's "Steady Mobbin" and a Cypress Hill track will be in there.

Yeah, and Ice Cube would be a great character voice.

"Keep that baby off the STREET!"

Kingfish Disraeli (Kingfish), Friday, 14 May 2004 17:51 (twenty years ago) link

Swimming! Thank god! Having the bastard die every time he fell into the water (eg every time you try to get into a boat and missed) sucked!

Dan I. (Dan I.), Friday, 14 May 2004 19:37 (twenty years ago) link

I just want to let everyone know of my awesome Vigilante mission strategy: get the tank, go to airport and start the mission there. All the target cars spawn either in the runway area itself, or in the adjoining streets, and all you need to do is to touch the cars for them to explode.

Leeefuse 73 (Leee), Friday, 14 May 2004 20:00 (twenty years ago) link

I found it more effective and easier to just use the Apache. Fly around and shoot the fuckers with missles. Doesn't matter how many wanted stars you get either. As long as you're in the air, the feds and the army can't do dick.

martin m. (mushrush), Friday, 14 May 2004 20:03 (twenty years ago) link

Apache def. better than the tank, but I couldn't find enough packages to get the copter.

Leeefuse 73 (Leee), Friday, 14 May 2004 20:04 (twenty years ago) link

Ah, see, the game took me forever to beat, but that's because I spent so much time just sweeping every area for packages and rampages. (I did the same thing with GTA3.) I actually found all of them, and I only consulted a walk through for the last package after spending hours trying to figure out where the hell it was. (Turns out I had just missed it somehow, and it was near the mansion, which was one of the places I was convinced I didn't need to look again.)

martin m. (mushrush), Friday, 14 May 2004 20:07 (twenty years ago) link

I don't think I'll ever finish Vice City.

Jordan (Jordan), Friday, 14 May 2004 20:22 (twenty years ago) link

Interestingly, when you complete all of it, the only thing you get is a new outfit at your mansion. If you run Tommy through it, he ends up wearing jeans and a t-shirt... On the t-shirt it says "I beat GTA Vice City and all I got was this t-shirt."

martin m. (mushrush), Friday, 14 May 2004 20:24 (twenty years ago) link
