matt p otm, and the effect of reflexively talking that way seems to be to displace a legitimate space in which the evocative, the intense, the sensual, the imaginative have some relevance to the music, over into a lawless nattering land where any impression stands on its own because no one ever expects that the impressions should have something intelligible to do with the actual music, as opposed to cartoonish little sci-fi filmlets and fragments of descriptive phraseology (13 difft ways of hearing a clank) that pop into one's head for lack of any other way to put the music to words

did u read my long post abt 6ie.cr? if not then do, then tell me i've displaced a legitimate space where the music and the evocative have no direct relationship. everyone posting in that thread is to an extent a synaesthete, as are both members of autechre, so let's not get too precious. it's lazy shorthand for 'this makes me see/imagine/taste things not implicitly connected to the sound', and sure we shd combat lazy shorthand, and sure i won't use the word again unironically in that thread, but i don't use it wantonly. if you want i cd say exactly how some of these trax trigger a synaesthetic effect? or yeah i cd discuss the music, its building swirling cascading sonic-cathedral magnificence, in what passes for detail.
