I think... ahem... I think I'm going to get an iPod today. Which model should I get? Tell me true. Is four gigs enough? Am I going to really wish I got 30? And do I get black or white? Which shows scratches less?

Man Man (kenan), Friday, 28 April 2006 13:29 (twenty years ago)

I can't speak for you, but the first one I got was a gift and it was a 20 GB which I filled up rather quickly. Since then I've upgraded to a 60 GB video one which I love. I also switched from a white one to a black one, they are both going to get dirty really quick and scratched easily - so get a case right away to put it in. I have one of those whitish slipcases, which are nice for keeping the units clean but they don't cover the video screen. So I also picked up another carrying case with a flip up lid that protects the whole thing. Overkill probably, but as much as I spent on the thing I want to protect it. Just remember that these things get dirty easily, it's really hard to avoid that.

jonviachicago (jonviachicago), Friday, 28 April 2006 13:32 (twenty years ago)

i bought myself a satin robe. i was getting other stuff on the site anyway and it was on sale for cheap. and maybe it can feel all decadent.

xp ooooo ipod.

Juulia (julesbdules), Friday, 28 April 2006 13:34 (twenty years ago)

30 gigs. I have the 6 gig mini and I wish I had 30. The main reason for my desire for 30 is that I have to spend time deciding which tunes make the cut. B/c it's only 6 gigs and I have 35 gigs of music, I can't set iTunes to update automatically.

They had a special here http://www.cheapstingybargains.com/ the other day. I think it was 30 gig for $250 or something. New. I don't who had it or how.

Whispy Fandango Triphop (unclejessjess), Friday, 28 April 2006 13:34 (twenty years ago)

I wish they were made of leather and you could shine them.

Man Man (kenan), Friday, 28 April 2006 13:35 (twenty years ago)

That's not such a bargain. They're $299 at the Apple store. I mean, sure fifty bucks, but that's hardly "cheap" and "stingy."

Man Man (kenan), Friday, 28 April 2006 13:36 (twenty years ago)

shit. i should not have posted that. i have to send a moderator request.... but that won't do any good. crap. sorry.

track-back ping

I'm sure you're right. I have about 60 gigs of music on my external, and if I could get half that onto an iPod, I think that would suit me well enough. I'd have to switch out songs and playlists once a month, maybe.

Man Man (kenan), Friday, 28 April 2006 13:40 (twenty years ago)

Anyway, they're out of stock.

Also, I only ever buy music from ShiTunes when it's ass o'clock and I want to hear a certain song. It's like playing it on the jukebox.

Whispy Fandango Triphop (unclejessjess), Friday, 28 April 2006 13:42 (twenty years ago)

La Lechera is correct. But I think there's room for all those resolutions! I mean, I'm only working! ONLY WORKING! That's like having the whole summer off.

Otto, sorry about your pants. That's the pits.

And MF = marshall field, BUT I got paid today so I think I'll just go write a check because I want a new wallet RIGHT NOW!

Also? I am in my VERY LAST CLASS of the year, right now. Two weeks and I'll be in my final year of law school.

Phew.

Safety First (pullapartgirl), Friday, 28 April 2006 13:44 (twenty years ago)

I think you can charge to your Fields account w/out the plastic itself. In the store. I know it was that way at Sears when I had their account.

Was it the nice new expensive coordinated-with-your briefcase wallet that was stolen? In that case, shouldn't you get another of the same?

Whispy Fandango Triphop (unclejessjess), Friday, 28 April 2006 13:48 (twenty years ago)

No way. I only use that wallet when I use the briefcase. It's too nice to use every day.

This was the pleather zipper change purse wallet with the big Scandanavian flower on it.

Safety First (pullapartgirl), Friday, 28 April 2006 13:49 (twenty years ago)

Oh. Well in that case, get that cute gawdy DB wallet.

Whispy Fandango Triphop (unclejessjess), Friday, 28 April 2006 13:50 (twenty years ago)

Is it too gaudy and DB, do you think? This is a serious question.

Safety First (pullapartgirl), Friday, 28 April 2006 13:51 (twenty years ago)

Oh, no. I mean, for some people like me or Courtney, but I think it's cute and suits you very aptly.

Repost a pic.

Whispy Fandango Triphop (unclejessjess), Friday, 28 April 2006 13:54 (twenty years ago)

That's not such a bargain. They're $299 at the Apple store. I mean, sure fifty bucks, but that's hardly "cheap" and "stingy."

Considering how very tightly Apple controls pricing on their merchandise, this is a considerable savings. Also? that was the most Kenan thing you've said all week.

Whispy Fandango Triphop (unclejessjess), Friday, 28 April 2006 13:57 (twenty years ago)

I'm reading a book I think you would like, Jesse. It's called Covering and it's about how people have to downplay the parts of their identity that don't fit neatly within the dominant cultural paradigm. It's written by a gay Japanese law professor.

Safety First (pullapartgirl), Friday, 28 April 2006 13:58 (twenty years ago)

I need to borrow books. Lend me some good books.

I think this is the sort of message that would be better in the IM window we have open.

Whispy Fandango Triphop (unclejessjess), Friday, 28 April 2006 13:59 (twenty years ago)

How about this for a bargain then?

Whispy Fandango Triphop (unclejessjess), Friday, 28 April 2006 14:03 (twenty years ago)

I was referring to my own response.

Whispy Fandango Triphop (unclejessjess), Friday, 28 April 2006 14:03 (twenty years ago)

I need to borrow books. Lend me some good books.

then lend them to me when jesse's done with them. i finished a book on the eastland disaster a week and a half ago, i've been putting off going to the bookstore because my older sister said she mailed me a couple of books. it's been 10 days and they still aren't here. c'mon USPS!!

otto midnight (otto midnight), Friday, 28 April 2006 14:04 (twenty years ago)

How can I resist that price on a laptop? How? I'm not made of steel....

Whispy Fandango Triphop (unclejessjess), Friday, 28 April 2006 14:07 (twenty years ago)

If only there were a building full of books from top to bottom that would lend up to ten books at a time to Chicago residents who need only show a driver's license, or absent that, a utility bill! What a magical world this would be!

Safety First (pullapartgirl), Friday, 28 April 2006 14:07 (twenty years ago)

CHICAGO, TELL JESSE NOT TO EAT PIZZA WITH ANTS CRAWLING ALL OVER IT.

Safety First (pullapartgirl), Friday, 28 April 2006 14:10 (twenty years ago)

I can't get IM to connect. SAD FACE. Actually I need suggestions for my sister's wedding invitation typeface(s) and layout. Where's a good place for copperplate/scripty fonts?

Laurel (Laurel), Friday, 28 April 2006 14:10 (twenty years ago)

HA! I was just coming here to ask if I should eat the pizza with ants crawling all over it!

Whispy Fandango Triphop (unclejessjess), Friday, 28 April 2006 14:11 (twenty years ago)

Jeff is a good font person. I'll email him and see if he has any suggestions.

Safety First (pullapartgirl), Friday, 28 April 2006 14:11 (twenty years ago)

If pizza tastes good with pepperoni, why wouldn't it taste good with ants crawling all over it?

"I'll have the 14" with green peppers, onions, and ants-crawling-all-over-it."

Eazy (Eazy), Friday, 28 April 2006 14:12 (twenty years ago)

If only they would hurry up and finish that Wicker Park/Bucktown branch.

jonviachicago (jonviachicago), Friday, 28 April 2006 14:12 (twenty years ago)

I love Zapf Humanist.

Might want to check out http://fontleech.com/.

Holy makkara, Toivo! (OutDatWay), Friday, 28 April 2006 14:13 (twenty years ago)

I paid a LOT of money for that pizza. It was overpriced. That's why I paid so much for it.

I got into the habit of leaving pizza out overnight from my AIDS-y friend who said it mellowed it.

Whispy Fandango Triphop (unclejessjess), Friday, 28 April 2006 14:13 (twenty years ago)

Just pair it with a petite sirah and it will be delicious, Jesse.

Eazy (Eazy), Friday, 28 April 2006 14:15 (twenty years ago)

Do I even want to ask what it means to be "AIDS-y"? Jenny, do I?

Laurel (Laurel), Friday, 28 April 2006 14:16 (twenty years ago)

OH Eric, my mock trial went pretty well, I think. The judge said that I had no rapport with my witness (Jesse), which was funny. I think we were trying so hard not to laugh at each other, that we were being intentionally cold. (although it was almost all over when I asked Jesse, "In your experience, have you been aware of any fights at the Red Apple Tavern?" and Jesse said, "Sometimes the guys will have some drinks and might get into a spat...")

Mostly, I'm just glad it's over. I mean, that whole night I was thinking and talking like I was still in the court room. Yuck!

Jesse - Maybe ants cure AIDS.

Safety First (pullapartgirl), Friday, 28 April 2006 14:16 (twenty years ago)

That sounds so fun, Jenny. I want to do that sometime.

Eazy (Eazy), Friday, 28 April 2006 14:18 (twenty years ago)

I just don't understand why I shouldn't eat the ants. Are they dirty? I don't understand what sort of hang-up makes me not eat the ant pizza. I mean come on, a Mexican probably touched the ingredients, so what is the big deal about ants?

Whispy Fandango Triphop (unclejessjess), Friday, 28 April 2006 14:18 (twenty years ago)

Why would I not eat ants?

Whispy Fandango Triphop (unclejessjess), Friday, 28 April 2006 14:19 (twenty years ago)

If the ants are eating it, you know it's still good.

Holy makkara, Toivo! (OutDatWay), Friday, 28 April 2006 14:19 (twenty years ago)

i've got neither. well, i have a license but it doesn't have a chicago address. but a librarian friend said she'd hook me up with card, i just haven't found the time to go to the logan square branch.

otto midnight (otto midnight), Friday, 28 April 2006 14:21 (twenty years ago)

but yes, if only there were such a place it would truly, indeed, be a magical world.

Okay, here is my story about ants:

Once upon in a time in Newark, Delaware, I lived in an apartment with a terrible ant problem. It was so bad that I would come into the kitchen and think I was tripping because the counters would be moving. I got some traps and some spray and I got it under control eventually.

Well, I drink a lot of coffee, as some of you know. I had an old coffee pot that I had inherited from my grandmother. I mentioned to my friend Ric that I wanted a new one and he gave me shit about being a wasteful consumerist American and said I should just clean my current coffee pot with vinegar. So I did. I filled the reservoir with vinegar, turned it off halfway, and let it set. Then I ran the rest of the vinegar through. It didn't seem to do anything, so I ran it through again.

This time, when I looked at the vinegar in the pot, there were somewhere in the neighborhood of 100 ants floating in the hot vinegar. I had been drinking ant coffee for god knows how long. Possibly poisoned ant coffee because I had chemical-ed up the place so hard that they crawled into the coffee pot to die.

One day long long ago I told my friend I was going to see Diamanda Galas, and she told me that she had just been asked to help out by pouring (cow's) blood on D.G. right before the show.

Eazy (Eazy), Friday, 28 April 2006 14:29 (twenty years ago)

I would trample a ward full of AIDS patients to get to do that. Or to even get to see her.

Whispy Fandango Triphop (unclejessjess), Friday, 28 April 2006 14:31 (twenty years ago)

WHOA Diamanda Galas is CRAZY LOOKING. I've never seen pictures of her before. Wow. I guess that matches her music, but still. Crazy.

Good point.

Also that was the most Kenan thing you've said all week.

What does that mean? Hardly seems like noise board funny thread material.
