I like both versions - the original one has tons of abstract style but not the same kind of tension/suspense the remake does.

I am in CT, watching preseason baseball on TV, where I will have to get up and change beds when 15-month-old niece awakens around 5:30.

The original TC Affair is watchable but very silly cotton candy (Faye Dunaway as world-class 23-year-old model-beautiful insurance investigator).

Dr Morbius, Sunday, 30 March 2008 03:27 (sixteen years ago) link

I didn't know "The Windmills Of Your Mind" was from this movie.

James Redd and the Blecchs, Sunday, 30 March 2008 03:29 (sixteen years ago) link

it won the Best Song Oscar! what magnificently abominable lyrics.

Dr Morbius, Sunday, 30 March 2008 03:33 (sixteen years ago) link

I never paid attention to the lyrics until just now.

James Redd and the Blecchs, Sunday, 30 March 2008 03:34 (sixteen years ago) link

why did summer go so quickly, was it something that you said?

Dr Morbius, Sunday, 30 March 2008 03:35 (sixteen years ago) link

Apparently my course of study up to this point has been a little neglectful of "The Windmills Of Your Mind."

Am I the only one up on this thread who actually had a social engagement I was supposed to go to but was so beat that I decided the best course of action was to stay home and take it easy - which ended up meaning lots of old country music videos on youtube. Of course there is also the technicality was that I wasn't really sure if I was invited, but maybe somebody didn't have my address. In any case, I made some noise to some people about intending to try to go, I'm sure I'm going to catch hell tomorrow. Hopefully I'll be well rested enough to take it.

I totally sonned that douchebag Jon Darneel on ILM, check it out.

wanko ergo sum, Sunday, 30 March 2008 04:42 (sixteen years ago) link

Wacky.. I didn't know that Hal Ashby worked on the original Thomas Crown (he was the editor)

Elvis Telecom, Sunday, 30 March 2008 04:46 (sixteen years ago) link

Yeah, I noticed that too. Morbius kind of right about this movie, but it's still fun to watch out of corner of eye.

Samba,

Don't you see? There's no way out.
You've done too good a job, Vicky.

Had some vodka and cokes with mates when they got back and set the world to rights via that magic of slagging off how shit the UK is nowadays. (Post-Thatcherite malaise, you know the score) So... wasn't a total wash out.

Bodrick III, Sunday, 30 March 2008 04:58 (sixteen years ago) link

OK, just put the WKCR country music festival back on.

I'd like a big delicious beer.

James Redd and the Blecchs, Sunday, 30 March 2008 05:18 (sixteen years ago) link

Hah... I haven't seen this in 20 years. I forgot that it was good old AIP that did this.

Plus Peter Fonda!

getting more beer...

Elvis Telecom, Sunday, 30 March 2008 05:19 (sixteen years ago) link

Futureworld sounds a lot better than The Reivers.

Speaking of Peter Fonda, Chris, have you ever seen or heard the Bruce Langhorne soundtrack of The Hired Hand?

James Redd and the Blecchs, Sunday, 30 March 2008 05:21 (sixteen years ago) link

Maybe I should start reading one of these books I got a hold of today- the new Ken Bruen or an old Domenic Stansberry featuring a baseball theme.

V. good album. Best in cold weather, tho (Coral Gables is a balmy 72 F).

Daniel, Esq., Sunday, 30 March 2008 05:35 (sixteen years ago) link

Maybe you should accept some piecework from TapeStore, HOOS.

James Redd and the Blecchs, Sunday, 30 March 2008 05:36 (sixteen years ago) link

Maybe I should read this other book I have here which is a crime story with a SoCal music backdrop, Beach Boys and Manson, Little Nancy Sinatra and Bobby Fuller, called The Dead Circus, by John Kaye.

Futureworld sounds a lot better than The Reivers.

The Reivers isn't that bad but I'd rather just read Faulkner.

Speaking of Peter Fonda, Chris, have you ever seen or heard the Bruce Langhorne soundtrack of The Hired Hand?

I've got a copy of it. Great stuff and the Jeweled Antler-plays-Paris-Texas comparison is pretty spot on.

The Star Chamber is on Fox Movie Channel in 45 minutes if anyone needs some conspiracy/paranoia.

All right, I went a found a Dos Equis. I always thought they should come out with a more macho version called Equis I Griega.

C.R. MacNamara: Cigarette? Cigar?
Peripetchikoff: Here, take one of these.
C.R. Macnamara: Thanks. Hm, 'Made in Havana'.
Peripetchikoff: We have trade agreement with Cuba. They send us cigars, we send them rockets.
C.R. Macnamara: Good thinking.
C.R. MacNamara: You know something? You guys got cheated. This is a pretty crummy cigar.
Peripetchikoff: Do not worry. We send them pretty crummy rockets.

Meanwhile, over in Futureworld (which doesn't really have a lot of Future in it) Peter Fonda just materialized three ineffective robot samurai

Mrs. MacNamara: Maybe after sixteen years, every marriage gets a little stale, like a leftover glass of beer.
