The weird thing to me is that one criticism I definitely would not make of Girls is that it's on the whole unfair to men. Adam and Ray are complex and well-drawn characters, and I'm actually impressed by the empathy it shows for them -- there's not much taking down a peg going on, even if it deservedly does that to certain other male characters like Booth Jonathan.

I find all the males and females on Girls to be rather horrible, but that's fine given the milieu.

Haven't seen Alex Ross Perry's film Listen Up Philip yet, but it might prove to be instructive as to what a contemporary 'male Dunham' Brooklyn filmmaker/satirist look like (Jonathan Pryce plays a Philp Roth figure opp Jason Schwartzman as a young writer).

hell, i remember the first time they had Adam and Ray hang out together and it was one of the more enjoyable episodes in the series, i got a twinge of 'wait, is this just another Apatow project where guys are made to seem more fun and funny than girls?'

comparing lena dunham's possible treatment of exes in her book and on the show to philip roth's mean, vindictive portrait of his first wife in portnoy's complaint is somewhat laughable

in the case of Roth, this is why i generally try not to give a damn about writers' (or filmmakers') biographies.

fuck yes. after reading her book, i really wanted to see her do more movies/novels outside of the GIRLS universe

So The National Review has seized upon parts of Dunham's book wherein she describes how, at the age of seven, she...did something bad with her little sister, and other conservative blogs are running with it.

She was scheduled to do a book signing at Antwerp's book fair (Belgium) today, but she cancelled at the last moment and had to fly back to the US for a "medical emergency", I just read on the local news sites here.

I don't want to form an opinion without reading the chapter in question (no morbs) but from what I've heard about it, it does sound like a weird lack of boundaries for a 7 year old, and not a cute quirky story to tell at all. I may have gotten inaccurate accounts of the story tho. didn't she out her sister against her will to their parents? Just kind of a crap sister tbh

Ok so she describes herself as using the tricks of a sexual predator against her sister in the chapter. Masturbated next to her, "looked inside" her (sort of indistinct, but the description makes it sound like surely she put her fingers inside her),and bribed her with candy to let her kiss her on the mouth for 5 seconds. It's mind boggling to me that she seemingly (from the tone and her responses) thought this was a cute, quirky anecdote
