preach it

I was inclined to keep this to a discussion of his work but yeah I must admit his reputation as a "cocky drunken Irish brawler" also makes me think he's more or less the South Park caricature of Russell Crowe: Irish Version

The New World
Fright Night (steals the movie, actually)
Crazy Heart
Ondine
In Bruges

Simon H., Tuesday, 23 September 2014 23:36 (eleven years ago)

in bruges and miami vice both own very hard and even if he is a knit cap in warm weather with silver hoop earrings kind of guy i cant hold that against him, he prob has tribal tattoos idk

any actor can be good under the right circumstances so instead of rushing to judgement you all should say "i am going to go into this with an open mind and i hope it is good"

Farrell is good-ish in Tigerland IIRC

Miami Vice and New World are very very good, but they're also the kind of films where any kind of 'acting' would just distract from the great pictures. But Farrell's blankness is definitely a huge plus in those conditions.

Haven't seen much of his 00s work but I like him in Bruges/Psychopaths and he's recently been great a lot of thankless roles (saving mr banks, fright night, Crazy Heart). But for all the movies where his name is first in the credits, only Phone Booth and SWAT have anything close to a decent gross-to-budget ratio.

da croupier, Wednesday, 24 September 2014 00:06 (eleven years ago)

OK I'll bite: what's wrong with him in Minority Report? He made Tom Cruise look especially paunchy.

woops, sam jackson appears in the credits before colin in swat.

oh yeah minority report is obvs very cool too

Farrell's been sober for years. I've always heard that he's a pretty decent guy too

Number None, Wednesday, 24 September 2014 00:16 (eleven years ago)

i don't think people would blink at the announcement that colin and taylor kitsch were gonna be on the billboards, it's vince vaughn as a mob guy trying to go straight that's the dare

da croupier, Wednesday, 24 September 2014 00:54 (eleven years ago)

already better than S1

i think it's easy to put mcconaughey's performance in a broader context now that the dust has settled, but TD season 1 was a departure for him even considering the rest of the work around it these last couple years, and the same can be said of harrelson. the show certainly isn't without its faults (maybe fewer pornily graphic sex scenes pls) and the lack of fukunaga is, i think, a bigger deal than who ends up acting in season 2. this show is either going to be excellent or unwatchable, and i'm holding out hope.

busted (art), Wednesday, 24 September 2014 02:53 (eleven years ago)

McC had already shown some of these smarts in a little seen but not bad movie called The Lincoln Lawyer, in which he showed he was good at thinking on his feet. I'm not sure why it's a surprise he can be good. Most actors are decent when given decent material. Why else are they pros?

alright so here's what i think is gonna happen. vince vaughn is essentially going to reprise his role from classic google comedy the internship. colin farrell will be the owen wilson character, but more the owen wilson character from wedding crashers. sara gilbert will be playing the vince vaughn character from wedding crashers.

linda cardellini (zachlyon), Wednesday, 24 September 2014 04:45 (eleven years ago)

and the same can be said of harrelson.

I just saw No Country for Old MEn and I gotta disagree with you there

Colin Farrell is about as far from knit caps as it gets

Harrelson got a second Oscar nod four years ago; he was doing fine without TD.

I had a smoke with Colin Farrell outside a building I was working in once some years ago - (they do a lot of TV and film post production) . I told him I liked "Alexander" and he looked at me like I was taking the piss. "Really!" I said and he thanked me. Nice dude. Sized up every woman in the elevator on the way back up.

lag∞n, Wednesday, 24 September 2014 14:07 (eleven years ago)

I predicted that XP and I predicted the poster

but what I'm saying is despite wearing an aul knit cap in winter or w/e the knit cap is hardly encapsulatory of c Farrell the person imo

zero content albums (darraghmac), Wednesday, 24 September 2014 14:36 (eleven years ago)

lag∞n, Wednesday, 24 September 2014 14:37 (eleven years ago)

tattoo is not standard tribal but it has tribal aspects

lag∞n, Wednesday, 24 September 2014 14:40 (eleven years ago)

idk can u judge what 'summer' or 'winter' are to an Irishman nor indeed how they might intersect with 'what will I wear when I'm out amongst the yanks' the man is badly shook IMO and not to be judged on the above incriminating snapshot

zero content albums (darraghmac), Wednesday, 24 September 2014 14:45 (eleven years ago)

The large tattoo covering the larger part of his upper right arm is “just a tribal design from Tahiti” that he got while holidaying there

Number None, Wednesday, 24 September 2014 14:46 (eleven years ago)

he is def a badly shook individual prob why he inhabited the in bruges role so completely

lag∞n, Wednesday, 24 September 2014 14:47 (eleven years ago)

ha its tribal but not tribal

Rachel McAdams is said to be locking down a lead role in season 2 of HBO’s “True Detective.”

Sources tell Variety HBO has offered McAdams the part opposite Colin Farrell and Vince Vaughn. Taylor Kitsch is expected to land the role of the fourth lead.

Though HBO recently announced Farrell and Vaughn as the show’s leads, sources say fans could have a similar response to the female lead as they did to Matthew McConaughey’s part as Rust Cohle in season 1.

Several other actresses have been considered for the part, including Jessica Biel and Malin Akerman, but McAdams has been seen as the front-runner for the past few weeks. HBO could not immediately be reached for comment.

It came down to scheduling, as insiders tell Variety McAdams was about to start filming “Spotlight,” the drama revolving around the Catholic Church sex scandal uncovered by the Boston Globe, and it was unknown whether dates could be worked out for McAdams to do that film and “True Detective.” Sources say that in the past 24 hours, a deal was worked out where the actress could do both projects.
