I know that electronics are cheap and taken for granted now, but slobbering over mechanical watch engineering like it is way more complicated than what goes into an apple watch makes a person sound ridiculous.

at least unlike your average audiophile they don't claim that the seconds marked off by an automatic Swiss watch have a richer tone than quartz

At the lower end, I believe the Apple Watch is a serious threat to those less faithful lovers of analog watches. There is a certain percentage of the population that simply doesn't care if they're wearing a watch of any great manufacturing process and the Apple Watch will appeal to them, if it works as advertised. Brands like Suunto should be worried. Casio as well. Even Seiko with its Astron line could fall into the same group of those looking for pure function. The other thing that could spell trouble even for the Swiss is Apple's cool factor with the young. At 16, will someone want a swatch or an Apple watch? At 20 will they want a Hamilton or the Apple Watch 3. At 25 will they want an Omega or an Apple Watch Plus? That should be a very real concern for the Swiss, appealing to a younger generation of buyers who live and breathe Apple.

my grandparents gave me a black swatch w chunky teal numbers for my 12th birthday and i wore it for a year, my only watch

Ive been a watch wearer since middle school. Looking forward to trying this out at least. It just looks a little too thick and Ive had bulky watches before and they get banged up really easily idk.

That one article up there has me leaning towards the 6+ too. Better battery life is almost reason enough. the 16-64 g jump really offends me tho, just a flat out dick move.

i have a couple mechanical watches and have come to really enjoy them. the hodinkee piece is what i would expect from a hardcore watch person--they're a weird mix of having a deep understanding of how frivolous their hobby is and a poor perspective on how indulgent it comes off.
