This ep is shaping up to be really terrible. The bar that doesn't card sketch began well, but the writers obviously didn't know how to flesh it out and turned it into an Eliott Spitzer commercial WTF.

I wish they would give Casey more weird/oddball characters, I really liked that silly running soldier sketch.

the post-monologue sketches were two wiig returning characters. i think her impression of kathy lee is funny but centering the whole sketch around BO was awful and the gilly sketch is fucking horrifying on all levels. stopped watching after weekend update but then there was a high school musical gag? unngh

tell me what yall think of this— i think first episode next season they should hand it over to the apatow/jody hill conglomerate. no host, but every skit is rudd, rogen, cera, hill, MCBRIDE, carrell, ferrell, segel etc etc. it would be funnier than every episode of the last 3 years combined

i think they need to fire this cast and writers and have a guest cast for every show - the office cast one week, 30 rock cast the next week, bring back the arrested development cast around the time the movie comes on, curb your enthusiasm ppl when the show starts up again

real talk no challops the college humor show on mtv is a funnier sketch comedy show than snl atm

a combined human giant/lonely island episode would be fire imo

give an episode to 77 - ethan is a veteran sketch comedy writer, all you gotta do is replace puppets w/ humans

I actually like a majority of the current cast (except Bobby Moynihan and Seth Meyers), and really don't blame them for the lion's share of what's wrong with the show in its current state. It's Lorne Michaels' inability to hire worthwhile writers, because he has no idea anymore about what's actually funny. I have to imagine he's almost completely hands-off with regard to 30 Rock, because the level of funny on that show just seems way over his head.

I caught myself thinking during one of the commercial breaks tonight "I wonder when the final episode will be. Five years from now? Ten years from now? Will Lorne ever leave (again) and turn it over to someone else (again)?"

Gillie (sp? eh..) sketch was really bleak

I've warmed to some of Wiig's characters that I initially hated, but I can't ever see that happening with Gillie/Gilly/whatever.

That Jon Bovi sketch is like something an eighth grader comes up with on the back on the school bus.

I picture a late-night writers' meeting where in one room you've got Sudekis cracking himself up with lines like "I'm an Indian on a silk-pony I don't ride" while in the next room, a circle of interns piss their pants as Kristen Wiig wears an afro wig and goes "What? What?"

Didn't see this week's Gilly sketch, but the one with Beyonce was fucking hysterical.

Jon Bovi is seriously the hackiest premise. It's like something you do to amuse yourself when no one else is around. Watching those two guys totally go for broke on that sketch makes me a little sad.

xpost An even better idea would be giving all those casts their OWN TV shows where they can develop audiences and hone skills!

Not to mention that 2 our of 4 of the shows Jordan mentions are actually making episodes, and only 1 out of those 2 is funny.

the cast isn't really all that funny either. it used to be that the funniest people in america were on snl-- this was true even up into the ferrell/fey era-- and now we have... kristen wiig and will forte?

I love Abby Elliott, but more for the ws factor that her funny skills.
