I think the watch is going to mystify the hxc nerd segment for a while b/c it doesn't "do enough"

Spirit of Match Game '76 (silby), Wednesday, 10 September 2014 16:01 (eleven years ago)

the watch just looks like a watch to me, if I saw someone wearing it on the subway I wouldn't notice

iatee, Wednesday, 10 September 2014 16:02 (eleven years ago)

I mean I would now, but I wouldn't two days ago

iatee, Wednesday, 10 September 2014 16:02 (eleven years ago)

as designed imo

Spirit of Match Game '76 (silby), Wednesday, 10 September 2014 16:02 (eleven years ago)

Apple's fashion segment is "affordable luxury" and the WATCH is a piece of jewelry.

this is true but imo what communicates that luxury is how they make extremely functional things and if this watch isnt good for much its not going to sell cause as jewelry its no good, the apple brand isnt going to be effective if theyre not actually embodying it

lag∞n, Wednesday, 10 September 2014 16:04 (eleven years ago)

I was wondering if they're going to have famous watchmakers design "faces" for it for extra $

i suspect watch enthusiasts wld say otherwise

lag∞n, Wednesday, 10 September 2014 16:05 (eleven years ago)

I mean I don't want to go overboard on stanning for this watch b4 it even properly exists, it might not become a huge category for them next year or maybe ever, but it looks thoughtful, tactile, personal, and attractive, and you can customize the watch face, come on. I'll be interested to see how long it takes for them to drive down the bottom price point on the watch and what their strategy is for that, but I dunno if I'll be able to wait that long to get one.

I mean, I have been wanting a watch.

OTM, I've seen displays and shops for VERTU which make 'luxury phones'

http://www.vertu.com/en/

But afaict nobody actually used them (even in a status symbol place like HK) because it was a bad phone that happened to be covered in expensive calfskin and diamonds and gold

Spirit of Match Game '76 (silby), Wednesday, 10 September 2014 16:12 (eleven years ago)

if a status-conscious billionaire wants a smart watch, is there any other credible choice of a 'lux' watch than the apple one?

sure but their goal should be to convince someone like me I'm missing out by not having a cool watch not impress that small segment of rich dudes who already love watches

Somebody should go undercover onto a watch enthusiast forum and get the reax

, Wednesday, 10 September 2014 16:14 (eleven years ago)

people will have to be able to try each size and strap combo on, they'll probably have to have associates bring out try-ons as if they're selling at a jewelry store, will be a powerful experience if Angela Ahrendts and co. design it right

Spirit of Match Game '76 (silby), Wednesday, 10 September 2014 16:14 (eleven years ago)

status conscious billionaire prob wear this thing for a week then go back to his million dollar swiss watch

lag∞n, Wednesday, 10 September 2014 16:14 (eleven years ago)

there's gotta be a watch subforum on fedoralounge

Spirit of Match Game '76 (silby), Wednesday, 10 September 2014 16:14 (eleven years ago)

yeah I mean at the truly high end you can get some pretty attractive complication watches in the $300,000-$1M+ range

Spirit of Match Game '76 (silby), Wednesday, 10 September 2014 16:14 (eleven years ago)

once saw a picture of a complication watch, felt desire to possess it, learned it cost as much as a house

ya im just saying as a watch its not a very good design, but maybe thats okay since its not really a watch

lag∞n, Wednesday, 10 September 2014 16:15 (eleven years ago)

watch enthusiasts have reason to dislike this right, since apple's goal is to kill non-apple watches dead

iatee, Wednesday, 10 September 2014 16:16 (eleven years ago)

friend of mines dad owns a million dollar watch plus a bunch of $100k+ ones, grody

lag∞n, Wednesday, 10 September 2014 16:16 (eleven years ago)

part of the problem might be that it's too cheap at $350, even poor people can afford it

they should make a U2 version for $5000

iatee, Wednesday, 10 September 2014 16:16 (eleven years ago)

I can now open the door and drive my car without taking my keys out of my pocket. I look forward to this new world of never reaching in my pockets.

⌘-B (mh), Wednesday, 10 September 2014 16:17 (eleven years ago)

if the gold one sells, I look forward to silver and platinum versions

⌘-B (mh), Wednesday, 10 September 2014 16:17 (eleven years ago)

much rather have to keep fewer things in my pocket but battery life issues are gonna stand in the way of that for a long time, maybe they cld make a credit car car key thatd be pretty sweet

lag∞n, Wednesday, 10 September 2014 16:18 (eleven years ago)

If there's a way to integrate the charger with the iPhone charger that could help w/ some of the concerns about battery life

, Wednesday, 10 September 2014 16:20 (eleven years ago)

actually I really don't care about battery life, just charge it everynight w/ your phone, what's the big deal there

iatee, Wednesday, 10 September 2014 16:20 (eleven years ago)

having to charge yr phone overnight is a downer too, been saying they shd come out w a fat iphone w a huge battery

the charger is the display stand isn't it?

Philip Nunez, Wednesday, 10 September 2014 16:22 (eleven years ago)

i wld buy the fat iphone right away!

lag∞n, Wednesday, 10 September 2014 16:22 (eleven years ago)

idk it's a downer in the same way that having to brush your teeth is a downer, like if it's just something you do every night who cares

iatee, Wednesday, 10 September 2014 16:23 (eleven years ago)

guys which new iPhone do I want?

btw I like to front like none of this new stuff is useful or relevant to my lifestyle but I'm gonna be the guy paying with my iPhone at Whole Foods to buy like a pound of yellowfin tuna in a couple months

Did you see the battery life on the 6+ on Apple.com, looks good

, Wednesday, 10 September 2014 16:23 (eleven years ago)

yeah but i dont want that huge phone, they cld make the normal one like 1/3 thicker and triple the battery life and people who fuck w their phones all day wld love it

lag∞n, Wednesday, 10 September 2014 16:25 (eleven years ago)

or people who just want their charge to last for a few days w/o worrying about it

lag∞n, Wednesday, 10 September 2014 16:25 (eleven years ago)

idk why they dont do it

lag∞n, Wednesday, 10 September 2014 16:25 (eleven years ago)

being low on charge is so stressful man cant stand it

lag∞n, Wednesday, 10 September 2014 16:26 (eleven years ago)

some people like to live on the edge

iatee, Wednesday, 10 September 2014 16:26 (eleven years ago)
