oh god that killed me

Yes!!!

I wonder if the early eps will ever reappear on iTunes. I know I have 2006-2012 on a storage drive but I've lost the cord. So annoying.

So a cop just shot and killed a Cops cameraman during a robbery. It might be wrong but my first thought was - 'Seth'

peligro, Thursday, 28 August 2014 08:16 (nine years ago) link

they're on podcast alley. you could use something like "down them all" to get them

TracerHandVEVO (Tracer Hand), Thursday, 28 August 2014 08:16 (nine years ago) link

Still can't find them :(

i called seth yesterday to tell him about the hour-plus version of the 1978 rock-n-roll sports classic on youtube (including the dallas cowboys cheerleaders, a very young michael jackson running the 100-yard dash, and, evidently, a whole lot of cocaine going around). he called me back today as i was strolling the midway at the ny state fair, which meant that we also got to talk about "deep fried twinx" - which is, somehow, a new hit dessert at "fried specialties" and not the title of a long-running gay porn dvd series

the portentous pepper (govern yourself accordingly), Tuesday, 2 September 2014 07:26 (nine years ago) link

what is that song at the beginning with the sick guitar riff?? google reveals nothing! it's called rock and roll champions or something? amazing find

so cool that seth called you back!

TracerHandVEVO (Tracer Hand), Tuesday, 2 September 2014 11:20 (nine years ago) link

The one message I left for Seth was about state fair food! Not gay porn though :(

i spoke with seth this week about "pumpkin spice creep" and my neighborhood starbucks offering pumpkin spice lattes before labor day

I don't know if this is a dumb question or not but it's been bugging me for a while. Who puts together the Seth's Corner compilations?

SEEMS TO ME (VegemiteGrrl), Friday, 5 September 2014 20:36 (nine years ago) link

Feel like they've really hit a groove lately. So so good.

peligro, Friday, 5 September 2014 20:43 (nine years ago) link

kinda wish I could see them at the Improv, that'd be a fun show

Yeah. I was dying at Business Models. I love that Seth just watched War Games. I love Seth's mental Y2K story. I also fucking love that story about Jonathan and his friend Jimmy being aware bystanders and ending up busting a diamond theft ring, and I can't believe he's never told it before.

Seth's Corner: I feel like I heard an interview(?) with them where they said it was just friends or someone Jonathan knew who had the tech to cut all the VHS together. I think I remember them saying how fing long it took. I cannot remember where I heard them say this. I might have made it up.

was listening to an old interview with Papa Larroquette on the Kevin Pollack podcast, and the subject of his children came up especially Jah's podcast and he talked about Seth and Jonathan, how different they are and how he listens to every episodes, it was just kinda great to hear him describing UYD through his own lens

ie Seth: he said something like, 'if there's something bigger than OCD, then that's what Seth has'

Seth (solo!) is a guest on Wil Anderson's TOFOP podcast today!

It's really good -- Wil is a big fan of UYD, so he does a pretty good job of putting Seth in his comfort zone -- the cohost Dave Anthony is also a UYD fan too --- Seth's v engaging and there's no audible awkwardness at all (ie it's not awkward like that time they were on Jesse Thorn's podcast)

caveat - I'm a big Wil Anderson fan, idk if everyone likes him

difficult-difficult lemon-difficult (VegemiteGrrl), Friday, 26 September 2014 15:46 (nine years ago) link

he was a lil' bit nervous at the start of the improv show huh?? awesome how much jon steps up in those moments though, just soaking in the attention, giving seth time to, i don't know, breathe, find his chakras

TracerHandVEVO (Tracer Hand), Friday, 26 September 2014 15:50 (nine years ago) link

I've noticed he does a pretty audible nose-intake when he's freaking out

difficult-difficult lemon-difficult (VegemiteGrrl), Friday, 26 September 2014 15:54 (nine years ago) link

hah yes, for some reason he reminds me of bill nighy when he does that, it's like a centering device, drawing himself up to full height

i told seth he should listen to the new hannibal buress stand up album prior to his show in chicago because it was recorded at the same venue they were going to play and he had a minor freaout nose-intaske just on the phone like "I CANT SUBJECT MYSELF TO THAT KIND OF PRESSURE ITS ENOUGH TO JUST GET ME ON THE STAGE"

ive spent the last week weeks listening to episodes 220-230 (summer 2010), for no other reason than they're the earliest episodes readily available for streaming on iTunes

its a pretty great run, and also interesting for a few reasons:

  • i started listening in spring 2010 so they are some of my first episodes i was listening to as they went up
  • this is now essentially "mid-period" UYD, which is kind of lol but kind of interesting
  • they talked about celebrities SO MUCH MORE 4 years ago than they do now

╲╱\/╲/\╱╲╱\/\ (gr8080), Thursday, 2 October 2014 15:27 (nine years ago) link

i was just thinking yesterday about the most memorable UYD stories. I guess I came up with Seth sealing his popularity by sporting two polo shirts on the first day of school, Seth and the crazy girl at the salad place, Jonathan's sex throat, Jonathan falling off a barely moving skateboard because he was looking at his phone, STACEY and SUSAN!!

smoochy-woochy touchy-wouchy, (sunny successor), Thursday, 2 October 2014 15:42 (nine years ago) link

is it around then that jon hit seth amidships with the news that he was no longer vegetarian? hearing seth go through all the emotions on that episode was pretty cray

I love this period, as it's when I first started listening to UYD. My wife was at the Rare Book School while I was wandering around the University of Virginia and Monticello listening to Seth talk about his knee surgery and Suri Cruise.

Jonathan's arrest for drug dealing at 16, Jonathan humping the ottoman while watching female bodybuilders, Jonathan's mother getting drunk at the Ivy and bitching out the paps who were there for Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes...the highschool trip to Mexico...ass-dialing his parents during sex (lol). any time Jonathan tells a story from his life it's pretty amazing.

One of my favourite Seth stories is when he's at the sauna and a mega-sweaty dude takes off his mega-sweaty shirt and wrings it out over the heater.

franny glasshole (franny glass), Thursday, 2 October 2014 17:16 (nine years ago) link

jonathan crawling into bed with his parents while tripping, seth taking two oxys and going to see lord of the rings, seth running into marilu henner at the airport and asking her for a soup recommendation and having her remember it later, jonathan pissing his pants at the jacksons victory tour, jonathan singing "sweet child o' mine" karaoke ("with serpentine hip movements") at drew barrymore and tom green's wedding

i also love how certain mundane stories of seth's get repeated again and again - going to the horde festival, the cross-country road trip, the class trip to washington dc

the portentous pepper (govern yourself accordingly), Thursday, 2 October 2014 17:28 (nine years ago) link

also the one where jonathan saves a runaway dog in traffic and gets a thumbs-up from lou ferrigno

the portentous pepper (govern yourself accordingly), Thursday, 2 October 2014 17:35 (nine years ago) link

From what I've heard of H Buress's stand up, his cadence and delivery seem very much in debt to Hedberg
