a tool to run borda-count polls as is the common ballot poll format on ilx would be pretty cool and something I've periodically considered writing but I don't write code for fun anymore

how does ilx bandwidth compare to other message boards? it seems like there are a billion phpBB forums out there, and ilx is relatively clean and feature-free by comparison (or so it seems to me). is our bandwidth exceptionally large for some reason? audience size?

I'd love to know what sort of page views other big forums get, does anyone know? we used to be quite high up a list of biggest forums, but the sourcing on that seemed suspect to me.

imgur is good and very easy but images expire unless you have a pro account. I guess it's important to me that my pics of my cats endure for longer than a year. I would use Flickr but it's become a pain in the ass, especially on iPhone.

oooooh, i didn't realize - i thought they just stayed up no matter what. i just checked imgur's FAQ and it says "As long as images are getting at least 1 view every 6 months, they will stick around forever." so that's decent, but i guess if you have a thread that doesn't get revived for several months/years (aka most of my threads) the images would disappear on occasion. bummer!

ilx cld have a script that views dormant threads every few months

ilx could just hire someone to do it. i, for example, would gladly go through dormant threads in a systematic fashion in order to make sure that the imgur images don't get deleted. someone's gotta do it...

ok but just to put all my cards on the table i'm going to be asking for funding for coffee and chips and salsa as well. funding these important food groups will pay for itself in the form of my increased dormant thread reviving productivity

maybe i'll just make it so that the reward for the fundraising target is that i do the job sort of and complain a bunch, but if the stretch goal is reached and i get the chips & salsa and coffee than i don't complain so much as i'm doing it
