I like to think they decide based on how incognito the headline looks once posted on facebook.

DL posts another perfect example. It's like trying to write a parody Weezer song that can be distinguished from a real Weezer song they wrote with a straight face.

there are definitely articles on clickhole that seem like they should just be on the onion, especially a lot of the op eds the onion's been doing for years, they usually don't seem to fit into the clickbait mold

The movie’s directors agreed, and after two weeks of frantic rewrites, Garland’s off script moment had resulted in an entire fictional realm called Oz as the new setting for the all-time classic flick, which was renamed from After The Tornado to The Wizard Of Oz.

The writer was probably at that same breaking point I'm at. I use the chat feature with a few people on facebook but it's tough to ignore the "feed" in the process and the content enrages me.

This one just got me. Star Wars I was like, "huh, I don't remember reading that anywhere." Terminator I thought to remind myself to go check the wikipedia article later. Citizen Kane and Wizard of Oz seemed pretty plausible up until the renaming thing. I feel like a rube.

People don't actually read enough of the article to get that it's a joke. I posted the one about craft beers and everyone who responded was all like "Can't wait to try them!" "Not all at once though!", "want to get together this week to try a couple of these" etc. It was pretty disappointing. Now everyone thinks I give a shit about craft beers.
