oh thats a good feature, definitely will help.
stet while i have you, do you know why sometimes clicking on a link from board to board takes me to a logged-out view of the site?

If I want to read something amusing if relatively clueless, Chuck Klosterman already exists.

Ha, wrong thread!
― Albiceleste Square Mall (James Redd and the Blecchs), Sunday, 13 July 2014 23:18 (eleven years ago)
cad: do you mean on the site proper? It's because we're on both www.ilxor.com and ilxor.com and the code treats those as two different sites (mostly for historical reasons that sometimes prove handy).
If you're logged in on eg ilxor.com and someone makes a link to www.ilxor.com, when you click it you'll get the logged out view. And vice versa.
― stet, Sunday, 13 July 2014 23:20 (eleven years ago)
It's like that one Monty Python sketch where sometimes they are on film and then they go through a door and are on tape.

stet i love zing.
― °ㅇ๐ْ ° (gr8080), Sunday, 13 July 2014 23:32 (eleven years ago)
stet that must be it, thanks!
― call all destroyer, Sunday, 13 July 2014 23:36 (eleven years ago)
i use the italic button on zing all the time. Pls keep it!
While Search would be nice, it would be almost as good to be able to view all my bookmarked threads. (Same as clicking the Bookmarks link at the top or bottom of the web view).
Would pay for zing again, def.
― Neil Sekada (Jon Lewis), Monday, 14 July 2014 00:53 (eleven years ago)
deleting.while I'm here, does anyone use the bold/italic/quote/code/etc buttons in Zing's post composer? I'm doing the iOS 7-ication now, and it'll be a pain to do all those again if I don't have to

I use them all the time.
Also I would gladly pay for the app again. I probably use it more than any other except email and maybe Threes.

could be solved if the links were coded relative rather than abosolute (ie leave off the hostname)

Yes, would repay.

Also, stet if you need some volunteer subcontracting work on zing (been Obj-C guy forever) let me know.
― Elvis Telecom, Friday, 18 July 2014 02:54 (eleven years ago)
Thanks! One thing I could definitely do with the time to investigate is a fast way to get an NSAttributedString out of our limited subset of HTML. (There's a attributedStringWithHTML call, but it appears to spin up webkit in the background and takes forever. This needs to be incredibly quick as it'll be called for every message displayed). I can do it easily on Mac by applying Bold and Italic traits, but that's not supported on iOS. I've filed a radar and my plan's to wait for them to support that, as otherwise I can't see how to do it in any reasonable sort of time.
(I was also thinking I could store the NSAttributedStrings in the DB here and fire them straight at the client, but there doesn't seem to be a good serialisation of NSAttributedString that doesn't take a lot of work to deserialise anyway)

How are Zing Touch and Zing Lite differentiated?
― fields of salmon, Tuesday, 12 August 2014 16:52 (eleven years ago)
Zing Lite is free, and I haven't updated since day dot, which means it works on the OG iPhone, but has fewfeatures. It has ads.
Zing Touch is pay-for, but has lots of features, including:
― stet, Tuesday, 12 August 2014 17:23 (eleven years ago)
Zing Touch (tm) will also:
― dustups delivered to your door (Aimless), Tuesday, 12 August 2014 17:33 (eleven years ago)
Losing socks would be a better feature.
― a curious shade of pale (onimo), Tuesday, 12 August 2014 18:11 (eleven years ago)
Also Zing Touch has a red trucker hat.
― Madchen, Tuesday, 12 August 2014 18:17 (eleven years ago)
Zing Touch is well worth the $.
― carl agatha, Tuesday, 12 August 2014 19:10 (eleven years ago)
if you follow the zing touch money trail, it will take you to the front steps of the Brentwood Johnny Garlic's
― Peeking at Peak Petty (Sufjan Grafton), Friday, 15 August 2014 04:40 (eleven years ago)
Board listing doesn't load on Zing Lite.
― Herbie Handcock (Murgatroid), Thursday, 21 August 2014 22:33 (eleven years ago)
Anyone else getting my problem?
Yeah this is a new thing tho. Only about two days old AFAIK.
― fields of salmon, Thursday, 21 August 2014 23:27 (eleven years ago)
fixed now; a stray "&" in the ILE board description.
― stet, Friday, 22 August 2014 15:45 (eleven years ago)
Thanks. Is there a public API?
― fields of salmon, Friday, 22 August 2014 23:34 (eleven years ago)
There is for reading - http://www.ilxor.com/ILX/BoardsXmlControllerServlet?stylesheet=mobile.xsl with no stylesheet gives you XML, same with the threads. Posting is a total mare, so if you want to do that let me know!
― stet, Saturday, 23 August 2014 00:54 (eleven years ago)
+1 for paying again. I for one would welcome our new iOS 7 Zing Touch overlords.
How's it coming, stet?
― Naive Teen Idol, Friday, 5 September 2014 12:18 (eleven years ago)
It is pretty much ready to go, but I have a new rule in from Apple which means I now need to add flag post, block user and flag user functions.
Apple brings back SB. Do they know what they're doing?
― stet, Friday, 5 September 2014 13:48 (eleven years ago)
will the old version of zing still be supported for those of us not on ios7?
― odd proggy geezer (Moodles), Friday, 5 September 2014 14:13 (eleven years ago)
Yes, I'm not going to touch that.

small detail but in ios8 the text on the new answers is lost its margin and is less readable http://i.imgur.com/fVvUxJe.png

which I heartily recommend to everyone, it's much better fyi
― lag∞n, Sunday, 21 September 2014 17:11 (eleven years ago)
while we're talking imho itd be better to display full thread tiltes on multiple lines than abbreviate... often it's impossible to tell what the thread is even about
― lag∞n, Sunday, 21 September 2014 17:14 (eleven years ago)
^^^seconding that, thread titles being cut off is much too cramped
tbh I don't think I ever use Zing for anything other than checking boomkarks bcz of this
― EMA Sumac (Stevie D(eux)), Sunday, 21 September 2014 17:15 (eleven years ago)
Thread titles have always looked like that to me on the last two ios versions
― Gar Tooth (Jon Lewis), Sunday, 21 September 2014 17:36 (eleven years ago)
I'd love it if I could zoom in or out on images instead of having them locked at a particular size.
