Vinci and Errani pretty much peaking in the doubles final. So many brilliant volleys.

Good piece on the marketing of female tennis players

http://www.forbes.com/sites/miguelmorales/2014/07/05/petra-kvitova-wins-wimbledon-but-bouchard-will-win-sponsorship-race-because-of-how-we-market-female-tennis-stars/

Hopefully she stays a bit more consistent - for Bouchard it's a bad match-up but vs others potential classics are in the making.

lol @ two Slam champions not on that list

lex pretend, Saturday, 5 July 2014 16:02 (eleven years ago)

That was a great TB in the men's doubles! Pleased Pospisil and Sock won it, the Bryans' chest-bump thing is so obnoxious

lex pretend, Saturday, 5 July 2014 16:57 (eleven years ago)

It is great stuff!

Michael Jones, Saturday, 5 July 2014 17:03 (eleven years ago)

Whither Mladenovic in the second mixed semi? No longer on the TBA order of play. On court 1 shortly? Or will they go late on Centre under the lights?

Michael Jones, Saturday, 5 July 2014 17:06 (eleven years ago)

It's the former.

Michael Jones, Saturday, 5 July 2014 17:18 (eleven years ago)

Big FHs and Pospisil/Sock get the third set break...

lex pretend, Saturday, 5 July 2014 17:58 (eleven years ago)

this is rly exciting

Couldn't watch but went by a bar and saw a 4-0 in the 2nd set scoreline and knew all was fine with the world :)

Bouchard will bag a slam. Kvitova to bag much more in time tho'.

Looking fwd to the highlights.

xyzzzz__, Saturday, 5 July 2014 19:09 (eleven years ago)

This has been a great match. Pospisil/Sock a game away in the fifth set...

lex pretend, Saturday, 5 July 2014 19:09 (eleven years ago)

Two points! C'mon!

lex pretend, Saturday, 5 July 2014 19:10 (eleven years ago)

hahaha, DF (first on a foot fault!) brings up two MPs...

lex pretend, Saturday, 5 July 2014 19:11 (eleven years ago)

unreturnable serve, ace, unreturnable serve :(

lex pretend, Saturday, 5 July 2014 19:11 (eleven years ago)

Fucking ugh @ all these MPs getting saved by aces

lex pretend, Saturday, 5 July 2014 19:19 (eleven years ago)

:D

lex pretend, Saturday, 5 July 2014 19:20 (eleven years ago)

No Pospisil nudity though :(

lex pretend, Saturday, 5 July 2014 19:23 (eleven years ago)

that was awes

sock nudity not enough for ya

which was retweeted by (imago), Saturday, 5 July 2014 19:24 (eleven years ago)

Kvtiova was unbelievable, couple of points there were all time :)

xyzzzz__, Saturday, 5 July 2014 19:49 (eleven years ago)

Oh man, did Vinci/Errani get the career slam? Brilliant!

katstevens, Saturday, 5 July 2014 19:50 (eleven years ago)

a really interesting thing about that doubles final: Sock has lost a ton of weight!

Matt Armstrong, Sunday, 6 July 2014 01:14 (eleven years ago)

babyface is gone

Matt Armstrong, Sunday, 6 July 2014 01:14 (eleven years ago)

I wonder if this will have a knock-on effect on their singles careers, Pospisil has been terrible since the injury in Australia and Sock hasn't done much notable this year. Then again I'm always surprised at how doubles success and singles slumps can happen at the same time, I know it's a different game blah blah blah but you'd think the confidence of winning would carry over at least? Hsieh ascended to doubles No 1 this year but fell out of the singles top 100...

lex pretend, Sunday, 6 July 2014 09:05 (eleven years ago)

Watched the highlights again - v sweet and moving how K wished hbday to her dad.

Great watching some of the faces: Martina (you think she must've found it moving), Bartoli (maybe glad she wasn't on the other end of it), the bloke from the big bang theory (er lol)

First para of the paper: she won 32 K per minute! Well, maybe she was worth every minute?! Pigs should be tied to a chair and made to watch re-runs of this again!

xyzzzz__, Sunday, 6 July 2014 09:10 (eleven years ago)

As for Bouchard she was made to look like champion. A girls singles champion, that is. She actually played as well as she could, which is frightening.

Given all that the it was an amazing speech, the blandness and flat-ness was good in its own way. Incredibly mature and aware that she is unlikely to meet someone on the other side of the net who is that good and all time, on the day.

xyzzzz__, Sunday, 6 July 2014 09:28 (eleven years ago)

shocked that Djokovic is the bookies' favourite...

lex pretend, Sunday, 6 July 2014 10:30 (eleven years ago)

Not really - bookies are going on facts, not the tennis.

He is no 1 seed.

xyzzzz__, Sunday, 6 July 2014 10:56 (eleven years ago)

The reality is Djoko-loco: game is a disorganised affair, and so yes its a great chance for Fed.

Hadn't really noticed the Edberg-Becker sideline at all until it was mentioned in the highlights yesterday.

xyzzzz__, Sunday, 6 July 2014 10:59 (eleven years ago)

Even aside from form so far, Federer leads their h2h this year (and on grass).

lex pretend, Sunday, 6 July 2014 11:16 (eleven years ago)

Well Djoko beat Nadal in their one clay final before the French Open so I don't know whether that matters so much.

xyzzzz__, Sunday, 6 July 2014 11:20 (eleven years ago)

Pretty good start!

lex pretend, Sunday, 6 July 2014 13:15 (eleven years ago)

So bizarre when a crowd goes "ooooh" at rallies like that as if they've never seen a sliced shot before

lex pretend, Sunday, 6 July 2014 13:36 (eleven years ago)

Djokovic was totally in control of that rally aargh!

lex pretend, Sunday, 6 July 2014 13:41 (eleven years ago)

Really well-played set in an efficient kind of way, only a couple of minor incursions into each other's serves. Thus, TB

lex pretend, Sunday, 6 July 2014 13:51 (eleven years ago)

TB is a bit more nervy from both of them

katstevens, Sunday, 6 July 2014 13:58 (eleven years ago)

Fed FHs to save SP on Nole's serve

lex pretend, Sunday, 6 July 2014 13:59 (eleven years ago)

fed can dial the serve when he needs to

rip van wanko, Sunday, 6 July 2014 14:01 (eleven years ago)

Peak Bullshiterer! But dat serve.

oh, boy, .GIF! That's where I'm a Viking! (edwardo), Sunday, 6 July 2014 14:02 (eleven years ago)

Another BH DTL error to hand the set to Fed :(

lex pretend, Sunday, 6 July 2014 14:03 (eleven years ago)

And yeah Novak looks really really nervous

oh, boy, .GIF! That's where I'm a Viking! (edwardo), Sunday, 6 July 2014 14:03 (eleven years ago)

both of them seem really tense actually, but Nole more so.

Roz, Sunday, 6 July 2014 14:04 (eleven years ago)

anyway GO FED. need to take away one last Sampras record.

Roz, Sunday, 6 July 2014 14:05 (eleven years ago)

Felt like Fed really needed to win that set to stay in it. Djoko just a tad sharper through most of the 1st.

something of an astrological coup (tipsy mothra), Sunday, 6 July 2014 14:05 (eleven years ago)

Break point D now.

xyzzzz__, Sunday, 6 July 2014 14:06 (eleven years ago)

V poor on the next BP.

xyzzzz__, Sunday, 6 July 2014 14:08 (eleven years ago)

Aaaand the footing's gone

lex pretend, Sunday, 6 July 2014 14:09 (eleven years ago)

Finally a BH DTL!

lex pretend, Sunday, 6 July 2014 14:09 (eleven years ago)

Fed wins it tho'.
