The atmosphere was like something you might hear in the Premiership

Ismael Klata, Friday, 4 July 2014 17:55 (twelve years ago)

Poor Griezmann :-(

Imagine a last minute draw and then thirty minutes more of that.

set the controls for the heart of the sun (VegemiteGrrl), Friday, 4 July 2014 17:59 (twelve years ago)

Is it maybe that both teams were exhausted? Hope it's not like that from here on in.

Ismael Klata, Friday, 4 July 2014 17:59 (twelve years ago)

chiant

seriously, THIS GUY (daria-g), Friday, 4 July 2014 17:59 (twelve years ago)

The first minute alone of Brazil/Colombia should have more energy than that entire match.

Ned Raggett, Friday, 4 July 2014 17:59 (twelve years ago)

Maybe it would have been a different game had France had scored the early goal.

painfully alive in a drugged and dying culture (DavidM), Friday, 4 July 2014 18:02 (twelve years ago)

ie more lively.

Didn't actually read that weblink before posting was just thinking how an alternative history approach might actually make things even more boring, a la Ned's favorite prose stylist Harry Turtledove.

Riot In #9 Dream (James Redd and the Blecchs), Friday, 4 July 2014 18:10 (twelve years ago)

actually I was a pole vaulter

Struggles against Algeria but doing what needed against France.

Familiarity etc etc.

xyzzzz__, Friday, 4 July 2014 18:22 (twelve years ago)

Let the FIFA World Cup 2014 thread know that I, James Redd, was just kidding with Ned Raggett, who is in fact not a fan of Harry Turtledove. I apologize to Ned and the entire ilxor family. I vow to the random googlers that there will never again be another incident.

Riot In #9 Dream (James Redd and the Blecchs), Friday, 4 July 2014 18:31 (twelve years ago)

I don't know James, I seem to remember an alternate history of this account.

You hero. (I don't per se hate the guy, I just maybe have only read one short story and half a book two decades ago. Unless I've been secretly venting about him and swearing vengeance IN AN ALTERNATE TIMELINE.)

Ned Raggett, Friday, 4 July 2014 18:46 (twelve years ago)

Is that the Alternate Timeline in which Oliver Kahn didn't tear a ligament during the 2002 WC Final in Yokohama?

Riot In #9 Dream (James Redd and the Blecchs), Friday, 4 July 2014 19:05 (twelve years ago)

Amazing, really.

Ned Raggett, Friday, 4 July 2014 19:11 (twelve years ago)

nostormo, Friday, 4 July 2014 19:44 (twelve years ago)

Just watched the game on delay. Thought that was a v good first half and Rio turned out to be otm when he said Germany would strangle the 2nd half. Proper performance from Germany, v happy. Hummels was fantastic. France insipid.

Cmon Colombia!

pandemic, Friday, 4 July 2014 19:50 (twelve years ago)

Riot In #9 Dream (James Redd and the Blecchs), Friday, 4 July 2014 20:02 (twelve years ago)

Geopolitical history question: how come the Portuguese half of South America is one big behemoth, while the Spanish half got divided up into lots of smaller countries?

Ismael Klata, Friday, 4 July 2014 20:03 (twelve years ago)

Better than the whole of GER-FRA already

In the airplane over the .CSS (Le Bateau Ivre), Friday, 4 July 2014 20:05 (twelve years ago)

Long story short:

Ned Raggett, Friday, 4 July 2014 20:05 (twelve years ago)

why does clive tydlesley pronounce "david" the non-anglo way but not "james"?

pandemic, Friday, 4 July 2014 20:06 (twelve years ago)

And yes, a hell of a lot better already.

Ned Raggett, Friday, 4 July 2014 20:06 (twelve years ago)

The other factor being Bolivar's failure to create a US equivalent (he said, oversimplifying).

Ned Raggett, Friday, 4 July 2014 20:07 (twelve years ago)

Pandemic, look up in this thread somewhere on Clive's inanity on that
