Ottmar Hitzfeld was asked before the match what does he like most about managing Switzerland.
He said "Well, the flag is a big plus".
― mizzell, Wednesday, 2 July 2014 13:31 (twelve years ago)
Don't think Howard signed up to being largely failed by his defence though.
― Matt DC, Wednesday, 2 July 2014 13:33 (twelve years ago)
i like also that "suzy" was in the team. none of the commentators called him 'big suze' which was disappointment

Like Howard when he's in no bullshit mode
When asked if he felt like the saves meant this would be the Americans' night, he said, "No, I felt like if this continues we'll be in trouble."

I'm fairly certain the Seattle / Tacoma area was so low (only an 8) due to huge viewing parties and packed bars.

http://grantland.com/the-triangle/a-primer-on-match-fixing-in-the-wake-of-the-cameroon-world-cup-allegations/
German newspaper Der Spiegel reported that notable alleged Singaporean match fixer Wilson Raj Perumal told the paper in a pre-match Facebook chat that the African side would have a player sent off in the first half before losing 4-0. Both would later occur in the match. Perumal further alleged that the Cameroon team had “seven bad apples” and has been involved, to some extent, with fixing all three of its group stage matches before exiting the tournament.
Perumal has since issued a statement, via the co-authors of his biography, denying that he predicted the result.
― Plasmon, Wednesday, 2 July 2014 18:31 (twelve years ago)
Player sent off in that game was Alex Song iirc. Would have thought Barcelona pay him enough.
― pandemic, Wednesday, 2 July 2014 18:36 (twelve years ago)
pretty weird red card though...

― Number None, Wednesday, 2 July 2014 18:42 (twelve years ago)
Ha!
Pandemic I do too. But look at those goals again, they can be seen as pretty fishy. And that red was just a really weird red card.
― In the airplane over the .CSS (Le Bateau Ivre), Wednesday, 2 July 2014 18:49 (twelve years ago)
when did the 4th go in, p sure they wouldn't concede a 5th?
― pandemic, Wednesday, 2 July 2014 18:50 (twelve years ago)
that card was bizarre
― gbx, Wednesday, 2 July 2014 18:54 (twelve years ago)
4th goal was somewhere between 70-75th minute.
About that red: has Song said anything about that afterwards?

Brazil’s Da Silva family of 14 are keeping all their fingers crossed for the victory of their national team at the World Cup. And they definitely have luck on their side, as they can cross 168 fingers.
All 14 members of the Da Silva family, who live in the town of Aguas Claras, near the country’s capital, Brasilia, were born with six fingers on each hand and six toes on each foot. This rare genetic condition is called polydactyly.
