Indeed, Vulture hears the production budget for Community’s sixth season will not be dramatically different than the most recent NBC season of the show.

gonna say, this show's gone from being nbc's least treasured show to yahoo's most treasured - budget's probably not that diff

da croupier, Tuesday, 1 July 2014 00:20 (eleven years ago)

kinda wonder if this last minute reveal came down to yahoo being the safety choice

da croupier, Tuesday, 1 July 2014 00:21 (eleven years ago)

It sounds like the negotiations went to last minute because Sony's contracts expire tomorrow.

Johnny Fever, Tuesday, 1 July 2014 00:22 (eleven years ago)

It was either that or the Food Channel.

Ned Raggett, Tuesday, 1 July 2014 00:26 (eleven years ago)

mmm brie

balls, Tuesday, 1 July 2014 00:27 (eleven years ago)

Hulu only passed last week, contracts expired yesterday, Sony has been negotiating with different partners for months

boney tassel (sic), Tuesday, 1 July 2014 00:49 (eleven years ago)

yeah i can't imagine sony WANTED to go with a service best known for providing Burning Love episodes before they air on E!

da croupier, Tuesday, 1 July 2014 00:58 (eleven years ago)

We were in pretty advanced conversations with Hulu and we had made a half-dozen or so phone calls to other places. Then out of the blue — and this never happens — I got the best phone call in the world from Yahoo selling us on why Yahoo would be great destination [for Community]. To be honest, we were so far down the path with Hulu that, hopefully not arrogant but [we were], maybe a little bit dismissive of their overture, which made them that much more committed to explaining to us and to Joel McHale and Dan Harmon why this was going to be a cornerstone of the new Yahoo that they're about to unveil to the world. They really want to be close to their users and viewers and wanted it to be a safe destination for creators. It was an excellent and articulate speech.

We will not cut any money from what we were doing on the broadcast version of the show. No low-cost digital whatever; Yahoo was spectacular with that and told us how much they stand for quality. You haven't seen a whole slew of announcements out of them but when they make announcements, they want them to be loud and to stand for something. They really were beyond supportive with understanding the production demands of a sixth-year show. They are fully supporting it in their deal and beyond; it's pretty historic.

Hopefully Donald Glover will come back to his senses for a final season. Probably not though

Nhex, Tuesday, 1 July 2014 05:12 (eleven years ago)

yeah chances of that are close to nil.

Clay, Tuesday, 1 July 2014 05:21 (eleven years ago)

two months pass...

aw man

Nhex, Tuesday, 30 September 2014 23:49 (eleven years ago)

I don't care what Yvette says about no one character being bigger than the show. No Shirley, no credibility.

Johnny Fever, Wednesday, 1 October 2014 00:02 (eleven years ago)

Paget Brewster, Keith David added to cast.

Aw, she's not playing the same character.

Nhex, Monday, 10 November 2014 21:52 (eleven years ago)

damn, i'm over this show but i love paget brewster.

you little affront to god (reddening), Tuesday, 11 November 2014 07:04 (eleven years ago)

yesss i love Paget Brewster too. and Keith David was hysterical on Enlisted.

nakhchi little van (some dude), Tuesday, 11 November 2014 09:22 (eleven years ago)

I only know David from Bird and his narration on Montgomery Burns' Jazz series. Whenever I hear his voice, I feel like he's about to say something snottily disdainful about the Art Ensemble of Chicago.

Montgomery Burns' Jazz (Tarfumes The Escape Goat), Tuesday, 11 November 2014 12:13 (eleven years ago)

i've loved keith david ever since i was 12 and saw his amazingly drawn-out alley fight with roddy piper in they live

i was gonna say ALL-TIME

Nhex, Tuesday, 11 November 2014 14:25 (eleven years ago)

Did Keith David not do the narration for the Burns doc spoof episode(s)?

franny glasshole (franny glass), Tuesday, 11 November 2014 14:26 (eleven years ago)

I think you're right.

Johnny Fever, Tuesday, 11 November 2014 14:37 (eleven years ago)

Also, he was Goliath in Gargoyles. GOLIATH!

Nhex, Tuesday, 11 November 2014 19:26 (eleven years ago)

I'm still not planning to watch any of this, btw.

Johnny Fever, Tuesday, 11 November 2014 19:38 (eleven years ago)

Is there some kind of paid Yahoo subscription we're going to have to get to watch these? Because... well I'll probably just download it somewhere else then.

Nhex, Tuesday, 11 November 2014 20:12 (eleven years ago)

I think they're going to try to do this with ad support only, but we'll see how long that lasts.

Johnny Fever, Tuesday, 11 November 2014 20:32 (eleven years ago)

hey yahoo's been on the "we'll see how long that lasts" bubble for quite a while now

da croupier, Tuesday, 11 November 2014 20:34 (eleven years ago)

paying for a sitcom is a drop in the bucket

da croupier, Tuesday, 11 November 2014 20:35 (eleven years ago)

for Yahoo this is like pocket lint... I'm still not sure why they're bothering, but hey, at least one good (?) thing will come out of their experimentation

Nhex, Tuesday, 11 November 2014 20:47 (eleven years ago)

Burning Love!

one month passes...

Watched the first 5 or 6 episodes of first series. Does this show get better?

Robert Adam Gilmour, Friday, 26 December 2014 14:34 (eleven years ago)

I love the early episodes but the show became more conceptually ambitious and Brie became a stronger actress in her role. Maybe start watching at s1e20 ("Science of Illusion") or try some of s2, e.g. "Advanced Dungeons and Dragons", if you want a sample? "Introduction to Film" (s1e3) is still one of my all-time favourite episodes, though.

EveningStar (Sund4r), Friday, 26 December 2014 14:41 (eleven years ago)

I think one of the worst signs was the charmless main male character and the prospect of another "will they, won't they?" unlikely romance.

Robert Adam Gilmour, Friday, 26 December 2014 14:59 (eleven years ago)

Oh, the show isn't 'about' an unlikely romance in anything close to the way Mindy Project or New Girl were, if that's what you're worried about.

EveningStar (Sund4r), Friday, 26 December 2014 15:19 (eleven years ago)

the show also gets better once they realise that jeff's strengths are not as a romantic leading man but as a narcissistic asshole prone to grandiose speeches. stick with it, it does get so much better.

bizarro gazzara, Friday, 26 December 2014 20:19 (eleven years ago)

the paintball episode in s1 was the real game-changer iirc

bizarro gazzara, Friday, 26 December 2014 20:20 (eleven years ago)

doesn't jeff accept being a narcissistic asshole prone to grandiose speeches at the end of… the pilot?

j., Friday, 26 December 2014 20:34 (eleven years ago)

there was still a cute will they/won't they with Britta, and then they did and no one cared, hey what about Jeff & Annie?

ancient texts, things that can't be pre-dated (President Keyes), Saturday, 27 December 2014 02:48 (eleven years ago)

i think Harmon was more in love with the Britta character than the audience (or any of the characters) ever was, and it became apparent by like the 9th episode that there was way more chemistry/fan interest in Jeff and Annie. and then they sidestepped the whole thing by pairing Jeff and Britta up in a secret non-romantic hookup way. i kinda liked how they handled what could've easily been a pretty tedious love triangle thing, at least until the pretty boring Troy/Britta relationship.

some dude, Saturday, 27 December 2014 03:09 (eleven years ago)

doesn't jeff accept being a narcissistic asshole prone to grandiose speeches at the end of… the pilot?

OTM.

EveningStar (Sund4r), Saturday, 27 December 2014 03:13 (eleven years ago)

The breakthrough character is Abed, who understands that he lives in a tv show.

Vic Perry, Saturday, 27 December 2014 03:27 (eleven years ago)

Have never really given a shit about Jeff and Annie and was overjoyed when Harmon tied that one up. Whereas Britta gets funnier the dorkier she becomes.

I think Jeff wrongfoots a lot of people early on because the show seems to be setting him up as the cool guy when a lot of viewers think he's a twat, it takes a while to realise that the show thinks he's a twat too and gets a lot of comic mileage out of that.

Matt DC, Saturday, 27 December 2014 12:46 (eleven years ago)

Ha, maybe I like the early episodes so much because he always seemed like he was supposed to be a twat.

EveningStar (Sund4r), Saturday, 27 December 2014 19:41 (eleven years ago)

"to me"

EveningStar (Sund4r), Saturday, 27 December 2014 19:41 (eleven years ago)

I mean, he starts out as a fraudulent disbarred lawyer who is trying and failing to cheat his way through a bottom-tier community college diploma and desperately hit on a woman.

EveningStar (Sund4r), Saturday, 27 December 2014 19:49 (eleven years ago)

Still so much of the early Jeff stuff was about him being a reluctant leader who could tie the group together and make inspirational speeches. He took a darker turn later on.

ancient texts, things that can't be pre-dated (President Keyes), Saturday, 27 December 2014 23:10 (eleven years ago)

Seen up to episode 19 now. Liking it more.

Jeff looks so much like British comedian Greg Davies.

Like how they kept up the creepy mascot.

Robert Adam Gilmour, Sunday, 28 December 2014 03:49 (eleven years ago)

The stuff about the Dean's Dalmatian fixation was funny. But the best thing was the keytar with the screaming samples.
