so it's NL v Costa Rica or Greece in the quarter final and then Argentina/Switzerland/Belgium/USA in the semi?
― StanM, Sunday, 29 June 2014 18:15 (twelve years ago)

― Roberto Spiralli, Sunday, 29 June 2014 18:19 (twelve years ago)

― xyzzzz__, Sunday, 29 June 2014 18:19 (twelve years ago)
netherlands-germany final would be disappointing
― ogmor, Sunday, 29 June 2014 18:22 (twelve years ago)
np colombia got u back
― Roberto Spiralli, Sunday, 29 June 2014 18:23 (twelve years ago)
colombia, france, argentina and, just about, brazil are all preferable imo
― ogmor, Sunday, 29 June 2014 18:24 (twelve years ago)

Mexico really have nothing to complain about, they weren't equipped to hold onto a 1 goal lead for that length of time against the Netherlands
― clockpuncher (Noodle Vague), Sunday, 29 June 2014 18:32 (twelve years ago)
ooooh - big mistake, KLM twitter feed person. xpost

Aranguiz penalty yesterday the best one of the tournament so far. Even if it didn't actually change anything.
― William Bloody Swygart, Sunday, 29 June 2014 18:33 (twelve years ago)
Feel like the finalists being both good and from different continents is key now. Torn between France-Argentina and Colombia-Holland I think.
― Ismael Klata, Sunday, 29 June 2014 18:41 (twelve years ago)
@PCarrESPN: The Dutch win is the 1st time a team has won a WC knockout game in regulation after trailing in the 88th min.
― lag∞n, Sunday, 29 June 2014 18:42 (twelve years ago)
a Greece-USA final isn't possible, thankfully

So would love that to be the final.
― xyzzzz__, Sunday, 29 June 2014 18:47 (twelve years ago)
lol kind of inevitable that when that record was broken it would be Mexico on the receiving end
― Prostitute Farm Online (Bananaman Begins), Sunday, 29 June 2014 18:48 (twelve years ago)
messi scoring the winner against brazil in the maracana is too perfect to happen
― ogmor, Sunday, 29 June 2014 18:48 (twelve years ago)
Then there would be a new quote: "Down through its history, only threefour people have managed to silence the Maracana."
― Riot In #9 Dream (James Redd and the Blecchs), Sunday, 29 June 2014 18:53 (twelve years ago)
Kinda heartbrokem for Mexico but they were slipping towards the end. Ochoa is still a beast, he shouldn't have that loss on his shoulders
― set the controls for the heart of the sun (VegemiteGrrl), Sunday, 29 June 2014 19:16 (twelve years ago)
No comment on the Mexican fans yelling 'puto' / faggot on every kick? FIFA said it's no big deal.
― brotherlovesdub, Sunday, 29 June 2014 19:53 (twelve years ago)

This is not a pro-Greece crowd.
― William Bloody Swygart, Sunday, 29 June 2014 20:01 (twelve years ago)
both captains are fulham players. is this some parallel universe where multiple fulham players captain sides in the k/o rounds of the WC?
― cajunsunday, Sunday, 29 June 2014 20:06 (twelve years ago)
Ticos really looking very handy so far, Campbell coming deep and knitting stuff together nicely, legs aplenty down the flanks, and their team movement is just lovely.
― William Bloody Swygart, Sunday, 29 June 2014 20:10 (twelve years ago)
Just caught up with the holland-mexico game on delay. Yay Holland. Clear penalty. Happy for the Hunter. Martin O'Neill talking absolute shit as per. Now for Costa Rica-Greece. Usual Greece or Ivory Coast Greece I wonder.
― pandemic, Sunday, 29 June 2014 20:12 (twelve years ago)
Greece are giving it a bit of a go, actually. Christodoulopoulos is making his runs again and linking up quite nicely with Samaras on the left.
― William Bloody Swygart, Sunday, 29 June 2014 20:16 (twelve years ago)
sadly Senderos isn't captain of Switzerland
― Ismael Klata, Sunday, 29 June 2014 20:18 (twelve years ago)
Was Dejagah the Iran captain?
― pandemic, Sunday, 29 June 2014 20:19 (twelve years ago)
lol at the sprint to ensure that was a marginal fk
― Ismael Klata, Sunday, 29 June 2014 20:22 (twelve years ago)
no, Nekounam is Iran captain I think
― cajunsunday, Sunday, 29 June 2014 20:22 (twelve years ago)
Was watching Holland Mexico with friends, not a lot to add: Thought it wasn't not a penalty. 5-3-2 failing yet again. Very glad for Hunter (started this WC as fifth striker, Van GaL had told him this one forehand and had said 'I'd understand if you'd rather go on holiday', but he went, and did this), and for the so far anonymous Sneijder to score the goals. I think I actually yelped when Sneijder scores. Awes.

Game breaking down a bit now, not convinced it's Greece's fault. They're putting pressure on Costa Rica's possession, cutting off the supply lines, so the Ticos' back four is at a bit of loss as to what to do.
― William Bloody Swygart, Sunday, 29 June 2014 20:39 (twelve years ago)
tell u what greece look p dece
― Roberto Spiralli, Sunday, 29 June 2014 20:40 (twelve years ago)
I was lulled into a false sense of interest by the palatable opening. Only just realising this is a dreadful game.

― In the airplane over the .CSS (Le Bateau Ivre), Sunday, 29 June 2014 20:43 (twelve years ago)
Yeah, they've isolated Campbell completely, and I don't think Costa Rica have much idea how to fix this. That said, working out where Greece's goal is coming from is... difficult. One situation earlier where Greece broke, and one shit decision from Christodoulopoulos turned a 2-on-2 situation into a 2-on-6. Inventiveness proving very hard to come by.
― William Bloody Swygart, Sunday, 29 June 2014 20:45 (twelve years ago)
I don't know why I keep being surprised at how effectively Greece can kill a game and eliminate key players. It's all they do. It's highly annoying yet also very admirable.
― In the airplane over the .CSS (Le Bateau Ivre), Sunday, 29 June 2014 20:47 (twelve years ago)
Ooh yeah, that's some lusty booing from the crowd there.
