well, it seemed to me that the critical framing fans of this record had set up raises a false dichotomy between boring traditionalists who hate fun and want to police The Canon and fun people who like to have fun and aren't afraid to have fun! when really dude is just another action bronson. but unpacking how things got to that point, at least for my writing process, sorta required unfolding it in a certain way, idk.

I am curious why D-40 hates this (unless I'm missing something upthread), I assume it comes from a place of gucci and riffraff fandom - but if so I think that's kind of missing the point. This is about a fantasy of reappropriation, a Disney Princess daydream about consequence-free "badness", of having the luxury and power to safely indulge in things that are conventionally viewed as dangerous (rappers, drugs, sexual games).
