sorry
does anyone know of a good workout tracking type app?
― iatee, Tuesday, 19 August 2014 03:29 (eleven years ago)
Something like Runkeeper or more of a gym workout thing?
― groovypanda, Tuesday, 19 August 2014 16:41 (eleven years ago)
i sometimes use fitocracy
― Mordy, Tuesday, 19 August 2014 16:41 (eleven years ago)
I was thinking a gym workout thing
I feel there must be one that suggests workouts / tracks your overall progress / gives you tips / spots you
― iatee, Tuesday, 19 August 2014 21:12 (eleven years ago)
moves seems to have withered on the vine since facebook bought it and it gives me crazy results on ios8. I like pedometer++ for step counting, but is there anything else that also does the location stuff?

I was digging the new Outlook app, but I've had nothing but trouble with it after the first day of using it. It just periodically stops connecting, I get "Can't talk to server, please try again later." I remove and re-add accounts, it works for about a day then stops again. Also have issues adding accounts, it just doesn't work sometimes, I get an "unauthenticaed" error.

Anyone else currently addicted to Letterpress at the expense of almost every other aspect of their life?

i have a comic book reader app (YAC reader) that has a neat feature where it synchs up to a dropbox and you can toss stuff into a folder from your computer and then import it to your ipad or iphone. is there a similar program that will do that but for .docs, .mobi, .epub etc files? ideally i'd like to be able to toss an ebook into a dropbox folder and then have access from all my other devices (or should i just install a dropbox app on my iphone to get this functionality?)
― Mordy, Wednesday, 18 March 2015 17:19 (eleven years ago)
install the dropbox app my man!
― max, Wednesday, 18 March 2015 17:28 (eleven years ago)
yeah dude the dropbox app rules, what are you waiting for
― gybe horses (Stevie D(eux)), Wednesday, 18 March 2015 17:40 (eleven years ago)
Dropbox. I get all my ebooks on my iPhone that way
― groovypanda, Thursday, 19 March 2015 15:14 (eleven years ago)
on another note when I was traveling across the states and didn't have access to iTunes for like 4 months I discovered this app called BoxyTunes that acts as a music player frontend for Dropbox, so you can add songs to your dropbox and use BoxyTunes to download them to yr device for local playback w/o a network connection, PLUS you can rearrange them into a playlist.

perfect for when I'm at work and Tinashe drops a free mixtape and I want to listen to it on my ride home.

I can't find any of my chats on the Gmail app but I thought I could before.
Actually I see older chats but nothing from about the past year. The help pages aren't helping. What's up?
― a girl with colitis (Je55e), Sunday, 22 March 2015 18:30 (eleven years ago)
Transition to hangouts maybe? Worth trying that (which is a separate app) and seeing whether they're in there.
― JimD, Sunday, 22 March 2015 19:17 (eleven years ago)
Oh I didn't realize that was a thing. I don't really want a separate app and I want don't want to accidentally wind up w/ a Google + account.
― a girl with colitis (Je55e), Sunday, 22 March 2015 21:02 (eleven years ago)
don't worry Google+ won't exist within 18 months

― stet, Friday, 1 May 2015 18:41 (eleven years ago)
don't archive your notes in commercial software, you're going to need that stuff later

I just like it bcz I can write a note on my phone adn see it on the web, or paste a recipe into the web application and pull it up on my phone, but now there's a noticeable lag + it's going to insist on using data EVERY time it accesses a note and prob won't cache it (or it will! and it will just be stupid-petty abt letting me view the cached data on my phone w/o an internet connection!), i mean sometimes I don't get great cell reception but still wanna see the notes i've already fucking written
fuck
― gybe horses (Stevie D(eux)), Friday, 1 May 2015 19:05 (eleven years ago)
have you tried apple's notes? it's good for all of that imo
― Mademoiselle Coiffures (mattresslessness), Friday, 1 May 2015 19:24 (eleven years ago)
no but I don't have a mac and found iOS's Notes app a bit too bare-bones for my liking.
― gybe horses (Stevie D(eux)), Friday, 1 May 2015 19:28 (eleven years ago)
might be switching to OneNote at this point tbh
― gybe horses (Stevie D(eux)), Friday, 1 May 2015 19:30 (eleven years ago)
Wow, that's fucked. I use Evernote heavily, but the software keeps getting worse and worse with every update. On my PC I use the most recent version I can tolerate, which is from over two years ago.
― Dan I., Friday, 1 May 2015 23:51 (eleven years ago)
Ended up moving all my Evernote stuff into Byword text documents on iCloud Drive. It's working so far but I'm still "I WANT TO BELIEVE" when it comes to anything iCloud-related.
― Elvis Telecom, Saturday, 2 May 2015 00:42 (eleven years ago)
What caek said isn’t such bad advice. If it’s just basically plaintext stuff you’re working with, save everything as .txt files, and that way you’ll very easily be able to use that stuff with a wide variety of software. Right now, my setup, which I’m not actually really using right now, is iA Writer for plaintext on my iPhone, Vesper for “notes” on my iPhone, and TextEdit on the Mac for plaintext. If Vesper was on the Mac already, there’s a good chance I’d have that installed too.
I would not recommend the built-in iOS Notes app at all -- yes, it’s very “bare-bones,” but it’s also had fucked up syncing issues ime, which is . . . pathetic, considering how basic of an app it is!
Anyway, my setup could change, perhaps when I actually start using it more, but data portability is a key thing. This is also a weird part of the software market, in a way.
― markers, Saturday, 2 May 2015 14:43 (eleven years ago)
There’s just so much shit, and so much of it has a tenuous future. Google Keep? I mean... A bunch of these iOS apps could disaappear eventually too. So, yes, data portability is key. And maybe don’t just leave your stuff in iCloud Drive, ET. You should probably back that up somewhere else too. I hope you have!
― markers, Saturday, 2 May 2015 14:45 (eleven years ago)
I just migrated all my shit from Evernote to OneNote, sayonara fuckers

― 𝔠𝔞𝔢𝔨 (caek), Monday, 4 May 2015 17:41 (eleven years ago)
Plus that trio fucked up horribly for me and I lost a ton of notes.
― stet, Monday, 4 May 2015 17:57 (eleven years ago)
i haven't had trouble with it since i started being careful about not having two copies of NV open at the same time. but yeah, potential for havoc.

Straightforward (and accurate) OCR app? Best I've found so far is MS Office Lens, but you have to upload the scan to Word or other MS product. I'd like to just scan and immediately have text that I can C/P.

FB app will not let post the first comment on a thread, comment button does not seem to work. If there are existing comments I can click on those to get comment box.

I don't know if this is the best place to even ask this, but does anyone know the best way to download or print iPhone text messages? A client needs to turn over all text messages between himself and 3 or 4 other people; too many for screenshots to be feasible. (He doesn't have a Mac and some of the texts are w/ non-Apple users, otherwise he could just print from Messages.) I've Googled this and it's still unclear what's worth buying.
― Je55e, Thursday, 16 July 2015 17:48 (ten years ago)
There's a way to extract it from a back up; hold on
