john wahey (NickB), Tuesday, 17 June 2014 00:13 (twelve years ago)

michael if that hoofing it isnt football as we know it I must a been watching a different Ireland most of my life

but there was better options, touch and movement in that yank team than I can remember ever seeing from us. better than recent England teams on those attributes. woeful passing and soft defence tho.

caek, Tuesday, 17 June 2014 00:16 (twelve years ago)

Think USA can be quite happy with what they've shown here - a fast start, an initially well-drilled and energetic defence fading as the game draws on, crap on the ball, occasionally irresponsible positioning from the full-backs, a good save or two, beneficiaries of a lucky break here or there but also not without a certain kind of fighting spirit - this shit's been getting England out of the group stages of major tournaments for years uncounted

Windsor Davies, Tuesday, 17 June 2014 00:17 (twelve years ago)

Would like to see Wondo get a shot against this Portugal defense

Ghana were actually quite good on the ball at times (as the goal showed) but 9 times out of 10 as soon as they got to the final third they just facking hoofed it

Ned Raggett, Tuesday, 17 June 2014 11:58 (twelve years ago)

has anyone found a place with good highlights of the games. i went to the fifa website and the highlights are shit, video takes a looooong time to load, they chose not to have commentary nor display the time when goals were scored or indicate who scored or basically anything that might prove useful. it can't be that hard to make proper highlights that don't show just the goals right, yet another instance of fifa being shit.

Jibe, Tuesday, 17 June 2014 12:03 (twelve years ago)

Viera really needs that BBC paycheck eh?

Someone brought up that Vieira had taken to referring to England team as "we" and he said he wanted England to do well "because of the power of the Premier League"... fuck off and die, cunt.

Tommy McTommy (Tom D.), Tuesday, 17 June 2014 12:32 (twelve years ago)

Ha, he did say that. He's ITV not BBC btw. Had a nice row with Adrian Chiles and Lee Dixon over whether Muller was justified in feigning injury y'day. Viera was in favour so that earned him some points with me. ITV has been terrible for punditry, Cannovaro v unsure in English which is a shame cos he may well be v insightful. Ian Wright is, well, Ian Wright.

espns could be a lil more comprehensive but they do have the infos u desire xp http://www.espnfc.com/fifa-world-cup/match/383290/ghana-united-states/report

lag∞n, Tuesday, 17 June 2014 12:44 (twelve years ago)

xp hehehe - Vieira also expressed his astonishment over the fact that Deschamps did not take Nasri to the WC - seems he's got a keen awareness of who's paying the bills

licorice oratorio (baaderonixx), Tuesday, 17 June 2014 12:45 (twelve years ago)

'we' quite easily lapsed into in a group analysis session ida thought, esp in broad tactical etc thoughts, esp in yr second language
