WTF with Marc Maron (it's a podcast)

he has the greatest history/backstory

I could listen to him talk forever, such a lovely voice and generally engaging dude

I dunno - I think Marc did a really good job engaging him over the course of the interview. I'd have to go back and listen to it again, but there was a point around where they start talking about the individual albums or maybe slightly before that they seem to fall into a groove with each other, and Gibbons loosens up even more than he was before, which was pretty goddamn loose to begin with.

By the time he's talking about recording the individual albums, I think he's figured out that Maron is just a little spazzy in general - and in this particular instance VERY spazzy with being in the intimate presence of one of his biggest musical heroes - but that he actually knows a thing or two about the blues and truly appreciates it.

I thought it was one of the better ones he's done in a while, and certainly one of the better musician ones.

Truth be told: I live like three miles from Maron's house. I kinda want to see if he wants to play some music sometime.

Maron just can't help but latch onto the details where he's like OH I KNOW ABOUT THAT LET ME TELL YOU and it's like dude how about Billy Gibbons tell us instead

Totally, but I feel like he's both accepted his geekery and obsessive need to be perceived as an equal in conversations, and has improved on both.

Still, if I had the chance to sit down with one of my guitar heroes, especially one who was/is as major an influence as Gibbons is for Maron, I'd be MUCH less successful at containing myself than he was on that interview.

From a purely fellow music geek standpoint, I really enjoyed his Jack White in the airport anecdote. I'm competent enough to play with some real talents, and their social acceptance of me is important because it means I'll likely get to play with them more. I think Maron comes from the same place.

sure but when Maron stomps on his Jimi Hendrix and Roky Erikson stories to ask "so when did you decide to bring it back to the blues?" about four separate times it does get a little grating but Billy was pretty great, nice little "Billy The Kid" at the end there too

I'm sad on the inside that Stewart and Maron can't be friends, but have no trouble at all believing that it's entirely because of Maron's behavior.

Oh, I don't know--was just looking up something related to Maron/Louie after last night's Louie episode, saw that video.

OMG the way he is pronouncing Josh GROW-BAN is going to drive me batty.

The first episode of season 2 of Maron showed up on Hulu, so I decided to watch it--having bailed on season 1 after two episodes. It's hard to remember another show like this that has potential, but the wrong choice is made in every scene. Like, there were some things that could have been funny--Maron, Hardwick and MIB sniping at each other, Jen not wanting to be talked about in Maron's act--but somehow they always went for the most stilted option to play a scene. The only thing that rang true was that Maron totally would not shut up if he was forced to watch the Walking Dead.

Rosanne Cash is one I've been looking forward to, and it doesn't disappoint so far. She's such a great talker.

i've listened to every episode of BEE's podcast since it started, but i can only take Maron in really, *really* small doses. he's insufferable but i realize that BEE is just as insufferable to others

Sometimes 4 months, sometimes 2 days.

Really enjoyed the Vince Vaughan episode. Genuinely a very funny guy which was a surprise. To me at least.

Maron is on Norm MacDonald's podcast this week. Great episode - talks about psychotic breaks, AA, interviewing, stand-up life, etc. Cool to hear them just yakking without the show context of WTF

Mike Meyers ep is great. I particularly enjoyed the couple of anecdotes about young Dave Foley.

for some reason, i was surprised to find out that Shrek was A) originally supposed to be Farly and 2) wasn't done originally with a Scottish accent.

Mike Myers' extended telling of the story behind the Wayne's World sketch with Tom Hanks and Aerosmith is awesome, because that's always been one of my favorite things he ever did on the show.

I've downloaded it, but tbh the idea of listening to Claire Danes speak for an hour about whatever is not making me excited.

Maron was driving me nuts with all the "yeah"s "right"s "uh huh uh huh"s and sentence finishing in the Danes interview. It was like he had a plane to catch.

Today's is great.

I don't think I ever knew that Bob Newhart had never really done any live standup before he recorded his first album—which went on to win Album of the Year and net him a Best New Artist Grammy in 1961.

that stuff about Dean Martin was hilarious -- Dean just rolls into the show in the afternoon & is genuinely cracking up at Newhart because it's the first time he's heard the material. Like Maron says, it totally makes sense I just never knew that's how it went down. Crazy.
