As far as I can tell, there is a watchtower to the east keeping an eye out for ships, and a lack of trees to the west, meaning getting a fleet would be really tough.

am I wrong but I thought the wall might have initially been built to keep out the white walkers?

Yeah and after the white walkers went dormant for thousands of years it became repurposed and used to fight wildlings

Think a big reason for the show's success so far has been its po-faced realpolitik grimness

I'm not that into the realpolitik so much as the Arthurian legend filtered through the realpolitik. Feels kinda fresh and mythical at the same time.

In this respect they're being very faithful to the show, now you know how the readers feel.

She's a much shallower and more nakedly opportunistic person in the books, but that's being filtered through Tyrion's POV. That said, I don't think that GRRM really does a lot of interesting stuff with unreliable narrators (with one exception that the show hasn't explored at all).

That was an element missing from the show

someone needs to tell danerys that chaining up the dragons is only going to be a solution for like 2 seconds and then it's buckets of crispy-fried-children city

I thought Arya might meet Gendry at the shore but that might be a coincidence too far.

I actually really liked that bit with the old man in the nice tree. I happened to be looking at one of my Charles Vess art books last night and it had his art for Storm Of Swords, including that tree and the wildling attacks.

This has nothing to do with recent episodes but I'm always confused why people make such a big deal of the show's sex/nudity. If I was describing the show to someone, I wouldn't think that element was worth mentioning. Some people speak like it's Philip Jose Farmer adapted by Jean Rollin.

Yeah I forgot about that. As far as we know, Gendy is still in a tiny boat in the middle of the ocean.

they should have done the "this surgery will change him" thing before the recasting

I have a feeling we'll see the ol' Hound again. We didn't actually see him die. Plus he has to face off against The Mountain.

That look they shared looked like it was supposed to be of special significance. Maybe he just sees a new hot redhead and she sees a new royal bastard to burn.

I'm pretty sure the Hound lives. When has this show ever skipped an opportunity for an on-screen death? Plus it basically cut from "The Mountain's gonna be back - and freaky!" to The Hound's "death". I know this show delights in killing off characters we're invested in, but it feels like there's some unfinished business here.
