As far as I can tell, there is a watchtower to the east keeping an eye out for ships, and a lack of trees to the west, meaning getting a fleet would be really tough.

am I wrong but I thought the wall might have initially been built to keep out the white walkers?
Yeah and after the white walkers went dormant for thousands of years it became repurposed and used to fight wildlings
― 龜, Monday, 16 June 2014 16:41 (eleven years ago)
Think a big reason for the show's success so far has been its po-faced realpolitik grimness
For me, this time 1E6.

I don't understand this twilight-related youtube video embed, was it meant for this thread?

so, tywin and the hound were both in the bathroom, doing number twos, when we dropped in on them last night. note to other GoT characters: do not under any circumstances go to the bathroom! hold it in!

Anticipation of the finale, hyperventilating, etc. xp
― Call the Doctorb, the B is for Brownstein (Leee), Monday, 16 June 2014 16:54 (eleven years ago)
I'm not that into the realpolitik so much as the Arthurian legend filtered through the realpolitik. Feels kinda fresh and mythical at the same time.
― ryan, Monday, 16 June 2014 16:56 (eleven years ago)
idk this finale, and maybe the whole season have just made me realize that it's just going to drag on for soooooooooo long
like all I want is for arya to see jon snow or bran (and vice versa) and none of that is ever going to happen
and now I'm kinda like, I don't know if I'm even looking forward to more of this?
not that any of it was bad I think i'm just realizing how boring it all is when you step back. idk idk maybe I just need to lay down

In this respect they're being very faithful to the show, now you know how the readers feel.

So what's the deal w Shae? In the books is it clear what her true feelings for Tyrion are?
― Mordy, Monday, 16 June 2014 17:52 (eleven years ago)
She's a much shallower and more nakedly opportunistic person in the books, but that's being filtered through Tyrion's POV. That said, I don't think that GRRM really does a lot of interesting stuff with unreliable narrators (with one exception that the show hasn't explored at all).

Big wet tears filled her eyes. “I never meant those things I said, the queen made me. Please. Your father frightens me so.” She sat up, letting the blanket slide down to her lap. Beneath it she was naked, but for the chain about her throat. A chain of linked golden hands, each holding the next.Tyrion asks Shae if she ever enjoyed their time together — if she ever cared for his embrace, if she ever truly loved him. The answer she gives doubles as her own death sentence.“More than anything,” she said, “my giant of Lannister.”That was the worst thing you could have said, sweetling.Tyrion slid a hand under his father’s chain, and twisted. The links tightened, digging into her neck. “For hands of gold are always cold, but a woman’s hands are warm,” he said. He gave cold hands another twist as the warm ones beat away his tears.
― Look at this joke I've recognised, do you recognise it as well? (forksclovetofu), Monday, 16 June 2014 20:02 (eleven years ago)
For once, his father did what Tyrion asked him. The proof was the sudden stench, as his bowels loosed in the moment of death. Well, he was in the right place for it, Tyrion thought. But the stink that filled the privy gave ample evidence that the oft-repeated jape about his father was just another lie.

That was an element missing from the show

― lag∞n, Tuesday, 17 June 2014 00:53 (eleven years ago)
someone needs to tell danerys that chaining up the dragons is only going to be a solution for like 2 seconds and then it's buckets of crispy-fried-children city
― set the controls for the heart of the sun (VegemiteGrrl), Tuesday, 17 June 2014 01:01 (eleven years ago)
I thought she was leaving the dragons to die and then calling a hunt for the remaining one.
I thought Arya might meet Gendry at the shore but that might be a coincidence too far.
I actually really liked that bit with the old man in the nice tree. I happened to be looking at one of my Charles Vess art books last night and it had his art for Storm Of Swords, including that tree and the wildling attacks.
This has nothing to do with recent episodes but I'm always confused why people make such a big deal of the show's sex/nudity. If I was describing the show to someone, I wouldn't think that element was worth mentioning. Some people speak like it's Philip Jose Farmer adapted by Jean Rollin.
― Robert Adam Gilmour, Tuesday, 17 June 2014 01:08 (eleven years ago)
Yeah I forgot about that. As far as we know, Gendy is still in a tiny boat in the middle of the ocean.

too bad they messed up the mountain casting.
they should have done the "this surgery will change him" thing before the recasting
― relentlessly pecking at peace (President Keyes), Tuesday, 17 June 2014 12:59 (eleven years ago)
I have a feeling we'll see the ol' Hound again. We didn't actually see him die. Plus he has to face off against The Mountain.
― Brio2, Tuesday, 17 June 2014 13:54 (eleven years ago)
maybe there was a maester behind that rock!

Throwing another unlikely possibility out there, red lady is Jon Snow's mother? That look they shared looked like it was supposed to be of special significance. Maybe he just sees a new hot redhead and she sees a new royal bastard to burn.

ya she def wants to burn him up
― lag∞n, Tuesday, 17 June 2014 14:16 (eleven years ago)
I'm pretty sure the Hound lives. When has this show ever skipped an opportunity for an on-screen death? Plus it basically cut from "The Mountain's gonna be back - and freaky!" to The Hound's "death". I know this show delights in killing off characters we're invested in, but it feels like there's some unfinished business here.
― Brio2, Tuesday, 17 June 2014 14:19 (eleven years ago)
i hope so!
