Ugh. That's the Japan defense I know.

Plasmon, Sunday, 15 June 2014 02:24 (twelve years ago)

ogmor, Sunday, 15 June 2014 02:29 (twelve years ago)

Just had a look at the forecast and the weather there seems fine, what's with all this bellyaching about 'high humidity'

, Sunday, 15 June 2014 02:30 (twelve years ago)

uchida is everywhere

ogmor, Sunday, 15 June 2014 02:31 (twelve years ago)

why is Tiote wearing #9? Not happy about this

Number None, Sunday, 15 June 2014 02:43 (twelve years ago)

Japan still without serious attempt on the goal in 2nd half...?

the europan nikon is here (grauschleier), Sunday, 15 June 2014 02:45 (twelve years ago)

humming "Sabotage" to the stadium drums now

uchida has made so many great runs

ogmor, Sunday, 15 June 2014 02:49 (twelve years ago)

Deserved for the Drogbamen - Japan were so easily on top at the start of the second half but their passing went to pieces when they got within sight of goal; some of Honda's play was almost Tommy Oar-esque at points.

William Bloody Swygart, Sunday, 15 June 2014 02:58 (twelve years ago)

Japan looked exhausted by the end of it, couldn't keep possession. Kawashima should've stopped the winner, but that only made up for the many missed chances to that point. Disappointing showing by Kagawa particularly.

My 7 year old in the #10 shirt started sobbing at the final whistle and went to his room. :(

maybe I don't watch enough soccer but that was one of the best games I've seen, rooting for Ivory Coast all the way now

also seeing all the mentions of "drogba" is messing me up

Had to miss at the game, at a dinner with friends, but damn, sounds like I missed some good action.

Ned Raggett, Sunday, 15 June 2014 04:16 (twelve years ago)

Giles given it a bit of scorn at the idea that this was a young/daring selection but
sterling
Sturbridge
welbeck
Henderson

like they're the type of calls you'd like to see after what seems like a lifetime of squads unchanged regardless of utter failure to perform

Don't know why you people fixate on Welbeck. Rooney is the problem

shame it wasn't rooney's foot that got broken

said it last night, fucker wants dropping, his time is long passed

Naamloze vennootschap (Noodle Vague), Sunday, 15 June 2014 07:45 (twelve years ago)

Watching the fifa '82 film. Sean Connery should narrate them all.

Atmospheric keyboard 'madness' as the soundtrack.

English pundits this morning beginning the important work of undervaluing the other teams in the group

Naamloze vennootschap (Noodle Vague), Sunday, 15 June 2014 08:26 (twelve years ago)

tbf uruguay were straight garbage last night.

Could only manage until half-time in IC-Japan game last night. Just watched the 2nd half, such a sweet sweet goal from Bony. Only missing a direct free kick and an overhead kick for the full range of must see goals in a tournament.

This whole group stage is killing it and Messi, Higuin, Aguero still to come tonight!

pandemic, Sunday, 15 June 2014 08:43 (twelve years ago)

Yep, amazing already and still have Germany / Portugal and Ghana / USA tomorrow which should be great.

Wristy Hurlington (ShariVari), Sunday, 15 June 2014 08:47 (twelve years ago)

i expect Uruguay to buck their ideas up next match. i expect England to be more or less the same except with Rooney sucking up the momentum in the middle.

Naamloze vennootschap (Noodle Vague), Sunday, 15 June 2014 08:48 (twelve years ago)

j early start yday meant I barely made it to the end of the England game.

Johnson, Gerrard and Rooney clearly the problem at this stage. there are in-form, younger alternatives to each. interesting times for hodgson.

dn/ac (darraghmac), Sunday, 15 June 2014 08:52 (twelve years ago)

who's the in form younger alternative to johnson?

pandemic, Sunday, 15 June 2014 08:54 (twelve years ago)

don't say milner

pandemic, Sunday, 15 June 2014 08:54 (twelve years ago)

wait, ye did bring Flanagan, right

dn/ac (darraghmac), Sunday, 15 June 2014 09:00 (twelve years ago)

No, would have to be Jones.

Wristy Hurlington (ShariVari), Sunday, 15 June 2014 09:03 (twelve years ago)

johnson was fine last night, gerrard is okay for an hour, no more.

pandemic, Sunday, 15 June 2014 09:07 (twelve years ago)

rooney plays left wing with all the defensive responsibility of ronaldo and about 5% of the offensive output.

pandemic, Sunday, 15 June 2014 09:08 (twelve years ago)

sterling being lauded for being a shade better than okay

pandemic, Sunday, 15 June 2014 09:08 (twelve years ago)

Sterling lauded for being a shade better than a bunch of shit players

Naamloze vennootschap (Noodle Vague), Sunday, 15 June 2014 09:10 (twelve years ago)

nah not fair he was a legit threat.

Naamloze vennootschap (Noodle Vague), Sunday, 15 June 2014 09:10 (twelve years ago)

don't want to do idealise eh lallana but if sterling/sturridge had that level of careful but constant passing and movement replacing Rooney or Gerrard there'd be all sorts of payoff

dn/ac (darraghmac), Sunday, 15 June 2014 09:15 (twelve years ago)

Gerrard near-invisible, wd replace with Milner but as previously noted Hodgson's centre mid options are stupidly limited. Johnson not great but since we only took the one right back he'll feel pretty safe. Rooney needs telling that you only get to dictate where you play when you're indispensable there.

Naamloze vennootschap (Noodle Vague), Sunday, 15 June 2014 09:16 (twelve years ago)

kinda at the point now with johnson where he gets on my tits so much i can't clearly tell if i'm being unreasonable

fuck that slapdash non-defending oxygen thief anyway tho

r|t|c, Sunday, 15 June 2014 09:24 (twelve years ago)

(might be residual bae rage that's escalated my perceptions there tbf)

(nb americans bae refers to a footballer not a boo)

r|t|c, Sunday, 15 June 2014 09:26 (twelve years ago)

Maybe the magnitude of the 5-1 result took away all the attention but david silva was as negligent defensively on the right for spain in their opening game as rooney was on the left for england. I guess plenty of other blame to go around there.

pandemic, Sunday, 15 June 2014 09:26 (twelve years ago)

I'd hazard that there's many left sided players who defend as badly as Rooney, but its just that very many of them are very good in attack and he's not

dn/ac (darraghmac), Sunday, 15 June 2014 09:38 (twelve years ago)

Is baines getting off the hook for his marking?

^ 諷刺 (ken c), Sunday, 15 June 2014 09:53 (twelve years ago)

nah just get tired of reiterating how shit all these alleged international class footballers are and the coverage on the radio and TV makes me think i'm just grudgeful and wilfully blind

Naamloze vennootschap (Noodle Vague), Sunday, 15 June 2014 09:57 (twelve years ago)

BTW, what's the point of all the well designed kits when they're going to wear hideously fluo shoes in completely unrelated colours anyway?

StanM, Sunday, 15 June 2014 10:00 (twelve years ago)

booming q needs brought before lagúna's thread immediately
