they're slightly padded yeah. I believe they use a similar principal in your sport of baseball

in baseball they use huge mitts specifically for catching, im guessing this is against the rules in soccer but the goalies are def pushing the limits, like the goalie gloves arent just padded to blunt impact theyre also very wide to increase coverage
