That game really pulled me in - stoked now for Chile vs Aus. Hoping I'm not too drunk I miss the end - still working on pacing myself here.

haha was just having exactly the same thoughts Onimo, I'm teetering, if i'm not careful this next game is just gonna be a 20 minute blur followed by a long kip. hyped though. apologies to any ilx socceroos but I hope that Chile smash this
― Windsor Davies, Friday, 13 June 2014 21:50 (twelve years ago)
tho having said that, today is friday 13th and clearly backwards day in football, would not be surprised to see a Tim Cahill hattrick
Cahill invoking the spirit of Chumbawumba.

Lol
Vidal to be glorious I hope.

this photo is so good, rvp looks like a scorpion framed by the netting or mb a seal flopping his way to goal
― ogmor, Friday, 13 June 2014 22:00 (twelve years ago)
Had a semi-open goal 3 yards out and tried to dribble around a defender instead of finishing. Failed.
― pandemic, Friday, 13 June 2014 22:01 (twelve years ago)
xp Two yards out with an open goal, hilariously contrived to somehow get tackled before he could do anything with it. Is the yips like a recognised medical thing, or is it only so much cliche and cant? Bcuz if ever there was a guy who lost previously instinctive muscle memory
― Windsor Davies, Friday, 13 June 2014 22:01 (twelve years ago)
Left foot tap in from 5 yards into empty net, decided to cut inside because it wasn't quite easy enough, bad touch, lost ball.
One of, but maybe the most typical, 100 Torres moments that have summed up his career since peak Liverpool.

Tookme ages to type that on phone + drunk so ignoring xpost warning s

avg height of this chile backline is about 5"5
― Windsor Davies, Friday, 13 June 2014 22:09 (twelve years ago)
That RVP goal reminded me of the Bergkamp book, the bits where you realise just how incredibly quick Bergkamp's brain was on the pitch. It was like watching one absolutely perfect decision - he sizes up the options and picks the absolute best one, which was far from the most obvious one; I'm pretty sure almost all footballers in that situation opt to take a touch to control it then make their decision, but he... he must have visualised it, mustn't he? Must've seen himself doing it in his head before he did it.
Also helps he had the confidence in his body to execute it perfectly, of course.

socceroos sounds like a joke name someone making fun of australia came up with
― lag∞n, Friday, 13 June 2014 22:14 (twelve years ago)
this could be disgusting. 2-0 already, may end 20. aus are fucked.
― a hoy hoy, Friday, 13 June 2014 22:15 (twelve years ago)
get chris herd on imo
― Windsor Davies, Friday, 13 June 2014 22:15 (twelve years ago)
This looks almost unfair so far.
I know nothing of Chile beyond loving their approach in 2010 and hoping they do it again but better.
― Maurice Malpas Holiday Jotter Blues (onimo), Friday, 13 June 2014 22:16 (twelve years ago)
swygert otm - even henry* said he would have been too tempted to knock it down and rvp had that killer decision making to not.
*not a great header of the ball mind
― a hoy hoy, Friday, 13 June 2014 22:16 (twelve years ago)
Aus have no way of coping with the interchange of positions and movement of Chile.
― pandemic, Friday, 13 June 2014 22:17 (twelve years ago)
"socceroos sounds like a joke name someone making fun of australia came up with"
Just said exact same to my wife. If you can't destroy someone calling themselves that you shouldn't be at a world cup.
― Maurice Malpas Holiday Jotter Blues (onimo), Friday, 13 June 2014 22:18 (twelve years ago)
Aus centre forward wearing the #4 smh
― pandemic, Friday, 13 June 2014 22:19 (twelve years ago)
Also it's Tim cahill
And out come the oles... To be fair, this hasn't reached Spain v Ireland levels of STOP BEING SO MEAN yet. Australia do have more than one player in Chile's half.
― William Bloody Swygart, Friday, 13 June 2014 22:20 (twelve years ago)
Chile keeper a better passer of the ball than half the England squad.
― pandemic, Friday, 13 June 2014 22:21 (twelve years ago)
just did a little research and discovered that Ryan Wilkinson of Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors is worthy of a spot in the Aussie squad but that Chris Herd of Aston Villa is not. Were you watching Ron Vlaar just then, Postecogiue?
― Windsor Davies, Friday, 13 June 2014 22:21 (twelve years ago)
That Tommy Oar free kick suggests it's not far off, tho.
― William Bloody Swygart, Friday, 13 June 2014 22:21 (twelve years ago)
Both RVP and Robben had moments tonight that reminded me of Bergkamp. RVP header for 1st & Robben take down for 2nd in particular.
Highly recommend Bergkamp's book btw - so refreshing to see a footballer analyse his own game and listen to and consider criticism.
― Maurice Malpas Holiday Jotter Blues (onimo), Friday, 13 June 2014 22:22 (twelve years ago)
just done further research and discovered that Chris Herd of Aston Villa is on a kind of temporary compassionate leave from football generally following revelations that his missus had getting it on with Darren Bent, as you were, Darren Bent can fucking do one always and forever
― Windsor Davies, Friday, 13 June 2014 22:23 (twelve years ago)
* had been getting it on, schoolboy stuff
― Windsor Davies, Friday, 13 June 2014 22:24 (twelve years ago)
Yeah it's terrific. Very open minded about what went wrong at Inter for example.

Beeen watching the Holland game in the student bar surrounded by already jubilant Mexico fans. So fucking drunk but what a fucking game! RVP I fucking love you, even though you must have crushed your balls landing that first header. Came home on the train surrounded by all the geriatrics leaving the Rod Stewart concert at the B&HA soccerball multiplex, wanted to hug each and everyone of those poor suckers, I fucking love life and I give not one shit if I die in my sleep cos that was the fucking tits <3<3<3

Matt Leckie was quite good for me on FM11 once, but I think that's probably because I was managing Adelaide United.
