i think there's at least a season there in the rest of 4&5 even cutting most of iron islands and brienne. tyrion's trip east, theon's redemption, all the fallout in kings landing from the lannisters' loss of control after tywin's death, etc

ciderpress, Monday, 2 June 2014 19:35 (twelve years ago)

also whatever the hell arya does in essos, i forget all that but its there.

ciderpress, Monday, 2 June 2014 19:38 (twelve years ago)

Yeah, lots of Queen vs. Queen stuff with the new High Septon (kind of an eerie premonition of Francis??) to deal with, too.

Arya trains to become a Faceless Man!

House of the Black and White, kissing skulls, eating worms, killing wayward Brothers of the Black.

Call the Doctorb, the B is for Brownstein (Leee), Monday, 2 June 2014 19:40 (twelve years ago)

next year might be comprised largely of Cersei v Margaery spy vs spy hijinks, for good or ill

Clay, Monday, 2 June 2014 19:40 (twelve years ago)

Arya should get a spinoff

On-the-spot Dicespin (DJP), Monday, 2 June 2014 19:41 (twelve years ago)

also sam gets it on. important stuff there.

ciderpress, Monday, 2 June 2014 19:42 (twelve years ago)

Sam getting it on should get a spinoff

On-the-spot Dicespin (DJP), Monday, 2 June 2014 19:43 (twelve years ago)

god those later books really are mostly just terrible aren't they

Clay, Monday, 2 June 2014 19:44 (twelve years ago)

Yes.

Call the Doctorb, the B is for Brownstein (Leee), Monday, 2 June 2014 19:47 (twelve years ago)

theres some neat stuff in book 4 that's too low-key or tangential for the show to bother with. but yeah its mostly terrible.

like i actually found jaime's arc in book 4 to be really enjoyable but there's no action or anything. also theon's arc in 5 made me pretty happy for whatever reason.

ciderpress, Monday, 2 June 2014 19:48 (twelve years ago)

I do hope they don't skip over the faith militant stuff, that seems irreplaceable and potentially v interesting well down the line.

Clay, Monday, 2 June 2014 19:49 (twelve years ago)

eh, maybe i'm an optimist but i think most of what's less good about the later books (parallel plot branches, one-note POV characters who don't change our perception of them or the action; GRRM getting sloppy and leaning harder on stock phrases) is rectified by the episodic format of the show.

there is still a ton of material to cover. book 6 should be out before the show rubs up against it.

can see HBO taking this to the theaters LOTR style for Book 7 but i hope not.

resulting post (rogermexico.), Monday, 2 June 2014 19:51 (twelve years ago)

yeah whatever their value as individual books there is still a ton of good material in there for the show to use.

Roberto Spiralli, Monday, 2 June 2014 20:01 (twelve years ago)

yeah the catchphrase thing in book 5 for tyrion and theon (maybe others too?) was pretty obnoxious and i hope he drops it for book 6

ciderpress, Monday, 2 June 2014 20:06 (twelve years ago)

I don't see him abandoning that kind of a writing crutch. :\

Call the Doctorb, the B is for Brownstein (Leee), Monday, 2 June 2014 20:12 (twelve years ago)

i love those loglines

Ep 9: Jon Snow and the Night's Watch face a big challenge.
Ep. 10: Circumstances change after an unexpected arrival from north of the Wall. Dany must face harsh realities. Bran learns more about his destiny. Tyrion sees the truth about his situation.

max, Monday, 2 June 2014 20:26 (twelve years ago)

Jon Snow and the Night's Watch face a big challenge when Jon is invited to two weddings at the same time. Also, Daenerys accidentally loses her sexy neighbor's cat, and Tyrion is torn when he finds a winning lottery ticket on the sidewalk.

max, Monday, 2 June 2014 20:28 (twelve years ago)

Game of Two and a Half Men.

Call the Doctorb, the B is for Brownstein (Leee), Monday, 2 June 2014 20:47 (twelve years ago)

the last episode being called "the children" could easily refer to:

- tyrion (considering what he's up to in that ep)
- dany's dragonz

socki (s1ocki), Monday, 2 June 2014 21:12 (twelve years ago)

it's definitely going to have the children of the forest because they were cast for this season

gyac, Monday, 2 June 2014 21:14 (twelve years ago)

yes also we will prob see bones of a children ;_;

I got me mammothses :)

Quinoa Phoenix (latebloomer), Monday, 9 June 2014 05:40 (twelve years ago)

Lots to get through in the last ep. I'm guessing they'll be saving Jon becoming Lord Commander till next season.

the joke should be over once the kid is eaten. (chap), Monday, 9 June 2014 14:11 (twelve years ago)

They did pretty good justice to this battle- good ep overall.

lauded at conferences of deluded psychopaths (Sparkle Motion), Monday, 9 June 2014 14:23 (twelve years ago)

So this means we're not gonna have that dreary electioneering subplot at the Wall, I hope?

, Thursday, 12 June 2014 02:15 (eleven years ago)

Dreary? I loved the sneak election!

lauded at conferences of deluded psychopaths (Sparkle Motion), Thursday, 12 June 2014 05:02 (eleven years ago)

Me too! Politixxx!

Call the Doctorb, the B is for Brownstein (Leee), Thursday, 12 June 2014 17:05 (eleven years ago)

I mean it's the Kingsmoot where it's more POLITICZZZZZZZ.

Call the Doctorb, the B is for Brownstein (Leee), Thursday, 12 June 2014 17:56 (eleven years ago)

Kingsmoot was cool because they brought boxes of skulls and that one dude died after he blew the horn & when they cut him open it was like he had smoked 3 packs a day for 50 years

, Thursday, 12 June 2014 17:57 (eleven years ago)

That was GRRM polishing a turd that is the Kingsmoot IMO.

Call the Doctorb, the B is for Brownstein (Leee), Thursday, 12 June 2014 17:59 (eleven years ago)

Yeah but a dude blew a horn and then died because he blew the horn

THANKS OBAMA

Quinoa Phoenix (latebloomer), Monday, 16 June 2014 02:29 (eleven years ago)

the motherfuckers played us like yo yo ma

Roberto Spiralli, Monday, 16 June 2014 02:29 (eleven years ago)

lol

I'm not really that pissed, but it's kinda jarring and baffling that they didn't use such a ready-made cliffhanger "Wow!" moment.

Guess they wanted to wait until next season for it. That or it was hard to get MF for some reason.

Quinoa Phoenix (latebloomer), Monday, 16 June 2014 02:40 (eleven years ago)

It was weird. We were half joking 'well it's the epilogue so maybe after the credits' but no.

Ned Raggett, Monday, 16 June 2014 02:42 (eleven years ago)

Otherwise it was actually a great episode! Loved the Harryhausen-style skeleton wights.

Quinoa Phoenix (latebloomer), Monday, 16 June 2014 02:46 (eleven years ago)

I mean THANK GOD they fast-forwarded Bran's story

Quinoa Phoenix (latebloomer), Monday, 16 June 2014 02:57 (eleven years ago)

I AM SHOCKED.

Maybe NOW we'll get dead Freys?

Call the Doctorb, the B is for Brownstein (Leee), Monday, 16 June 2014 05:12 (eleven years ago)
