WTF with Marc Maron (it's a podcast)

yeah it just felt like I didn't really need more Maron - the podcast is enough and he's already way too much as it is, lol

I was skeptical about the "the special topic for the 500th episode is... ME!" but the Brill interview was kind of great.

i felt a bit awkward about the brother and the mom interviews, but Brill is def worth it

halfway into the Chris Cornell interview -- he's really chatty, it's actually pretty good!

I loved how Cornell was bold enough to call bullshit on Mother Love Bone being the pivotal act in Seattle's 1988-92 boom, instead saying with no humility whatsoever that Soundgarden was the band that turned the tables. (For the record, that's how I remember it happening as well.)

yeah I know it can lapse into massive ego but I do like how he was like our band fucking RULES and we melted faces

and I liked that he pressed how their Led Zeppelin/Sabbath riffage got serious gasface from everyone else at the time, and YET they still melted faces

god I fucking loved them. I went to the last reunion show thinking it was probably going to suck and Cornell just wasn't who he used to be anymore and then they melted MY face and I was happy again :D

I wish Soundgarden had more fast songs like Rusty Cage and fewer dirgey Sabbath homages (and I wish Black Hole Sun had never been written), but they're an okay band for what they are.

The story about the "sex tape"! she told it with such righteous indignation and it turned out to just be a student film with a kissing scene.

It was like every story lacked connective tissue-- I flew there to yell at him and then he followed me down the street and then this waitress started crying and I knew they were banging and then we got married

I didn't mind, felt like a pretty unreliable narrator on a lot of levels but entertaining. Agree Maron mackin' was a bit much though.

It was a good old fashioned WTF with a kind of wacko comedian with crazy family issues that I've never heard of before and probably will never hear of again.

I'd actually heard of her before because of the Pitbull advocacy, but I don't think I ever knew she was a standup.

I dunno why I wasn't expecting Marc to go in on Scientology with Giovanni Ribisi in the garage, because that Dianetics joke has been in his repertoire for 20 years. Now that they're in it, Ribisi seems pretty chill.

Billy Gibbons would be a better interview if Maron would just shut the fuck up and let him ramble for 60 minutes.

I could listen to him talk forever, such a lovely voice and generally engaging dude

I dunno - I think Marc did a really good job engaging him over the course of the interview. I'd have to go back and listen to it again, but there was a point around where they start talking about the individual albums or maybe slightly before that they seem to fall into a groove with each other, and Gibbons loosens up even more than he was before, which was pretty goddamn loose to begin with.

By the time he's talking about recording the individual albums, I think he's figured out that Maron is just a little spazzy in general - and in this particular instance VERY spazzy with being in the intimate presence of one of his biggest musical heroes - but that he actually knows a thing or two about the blues and truly appreciates it.

I thought it was one of the better ones he's done in a while, and certainly one of the better musician ones.

Truth be told: I live like three miles from Maron's house. I kinda want to see if he wants to play some music sometime.

Maron just can't help but latch onto the details where he's like OH I KNOW ABOUT THAT LET ME TELL YOU and it's like dude how about Billy Gibbons tell us instead
