Why are Turkish films so terrible?

Hi there,

If you want to see some really good (and I mean it) check out the 3rd Annual NY Turkish Film Festival in New York City. I highly recommend "Run For Money" on Oct. 27, 2001. (www.moonandstarsproject.org)

Additionally I heard that there is an upcoming party organized by the same people in NYC: Turkish Star Wars party. I don't know the date but they will show the film and have fun at the same time. Sounds good?

I really liked Uzak (Distant), although it was one of the most relentlessly depressing films I've ever seen.

(Spoiler, I guess, but I'm not sure it'll detract from the film.) Bus-leaving scenes are to movies what waiting-by-the-phone songs are to pop music: Hud, Breakfast at Tiffany's, Clockers, Midnight Cowboy, they're never less than great. So the last few minutes of Mustang is the best thing I've seen in a few months, helped along by a really beautiful score. The rest is fine. I Googled "mustang virgin suicides" to see if Coppola's film was getting mentioned in reviews--it wasn't in the two I skimmed earlier--and a few did turn up. I think The Virgin Suicides is the better film.

I made the same comparison in my notes without (yet) reading any reviews.

Seemed hard to miss at times. In Mustang, drab brown dresses = getting your Kiss albums taken away.
