I bought the earlier version of those years ago and found them far too leaky for me (I generally walk, so the problem was traffic noise coming in, rather than my noise going out). I swapped them for the closed-back PX 200s instead, which were fine, though I now use ear-canal earbuds instead.

anyway, it will be interesting to see when they formally announce this and what they say. here's something to read in the meantime:

Apple became interested in doing a deal with Beats after executives were impressed by Beats Music, the online music streaming service unveiled earlier this year, which was rapidly converting users into paying subscribers, said a person with knowledge of the talks, who asked not to be identified because the discussions are private.

Beats is also well known for its high-end headphones business, which is profitable, and Apple plans to work with the company to improve the quality of design in future versions, this person said.

I defended the asymco guy recently and now i regret it

The method chosen is a forum we are convening called The Post Modern Computing Summit.

It’s a small gathering where we are inviting the most enlightened thinkers of the future of computing to lead us into its next age, and perhaps, tentatively, the next era of civilization.

what if they're buying beats because it's a profitable enterprise and they want to make money?

it'd be pretty funny if everything continued as-is, to the confusion of speculators

this would be wildly out of character

A day doesn't pass without some leaked iPhone 6 mockup of some sort, but is there any word on a possible iPod update? They're not as popular as they once were, but still 2+ years is a long time without an update. Any guesses as to whether the iPod touch will get the 4.7" screen? A 128GB option?

Lee626, Tuesday, 13 May 2014 05:11 (twelve years ago)

waiting for a new mac mini too while we're on the topic of the forgotten

256 GB iPod Classic option or gtfo

Khamma chameleon (Jon Lewis), Tuesday, 13 May 2014 17:09 (twelve years ago)

Fuckit, 512.

I wish I was joking.

Khamma chameleon (Jon Lewis), Tuesday, 13 May 2014 17:10 (twelve years ago)

the ipod classic is fucked, as is the ipod line in general. (although that's probably the least popular model)

markers, Tuesday, 13 May 2014 17:46 (twelve years ago)

i've heard the ipod touch isn't doing spectacularly well, too

markers, Tuesday, 13 May 2014 17:47 (twelve years ago)

people are just getting iphones, even if they're young

markers, Tuesday, 13 May 2014 17:47 (twelve years ago)

perhaps the ipod touch could get some sort of a redesign. perhaps

markers, Tuesday, 13 May 2014 17:47 (twelve years ago)

the future of ios devices is iphones and ipads, though

markers, Tuesday, 13 May 2014 17:48 (twelve years ago)

perhaps the real apple tv, when it comes out, too. and the iwatch, at some point

markers, Tuesday, 13 May 2014 17:48 (twelve years ago)

mac mini, i have no idea.

markers, Tuesday, 13 May 2014 17:48 (twelve years ago)

"the real apple tv"

pssh the standalone box makes a shitload of sense. the display capabilities of a television are fine for yeeeears, but streaming tech and whatever else can change up. the stuff built-in to televisions becomes outdated too quickly.

a strange man (mh), Tuesday, 13 May 2014 18:08 (twelve years ago)

IMO all of these separate boxes are going to die in the US the instant Apple/XBox/Sony/Roku/Amazon/whomever can strike a deal with the cable companies to integrate with/replace their settop boxes

chillin' on an "awesome pretzel" hoagie (DJP), Tuesday, 13 May 2014 18:22 (twelve years ago)

"the real apple tv"

which could be a more advanced version of the current apple tv. i did not imply a screen.

markers, Tuesday, 13 May 2014 18:25 (twelve years ago)

Most of this stuff is already getting integrated directly into the TV anyway. I don't think the boxes will totally die though, just because the hardware in these TVs and cable set-top boxes tends to suck in comparison to AppleTV, Tivo, etc.

ipads are dying bro, it's just phones all the way down from now on

socki (s1ocki), Tuesday, 13 May 2014 18:26 (twelve years ago)

lol "dying"

markers, Tuesday, 13 May 2014 18:26 (twelve years ago)

maybe not growing!

markers, Tuesday, 13 May 2014 18:26 (twelve years ago)

DJP somewhat otm! I have no idea wtf is going to happen in the television sphere, but there's going to be some sort of convergence.

a strange man (mh), Tuesday, 13 May 2014 18:33 (twelve years ago)

if you're not busy being born imho

socki (s1ocki), Tuesday, 13 May 2014 18:33 (twelve years ago)

markers, Tuesday, 13 May 2014 18:35 (twelve years ago)

apple tv seems to be doing well for them. the ipod is not, and tim cook has said as much. the iphone is still doing very, very well. the ipad has sort of plateaued, and might get stuck there, but we'll see.

markers, Tuesday, 13 May 2014 18:37 (twelve years ago)

who knows about the iwatch. if it doesn't work out, that will be a clusterfuck.

markers, Tuesday, 13 May 2014 18:37 (twelve years ago)

the major two hardware projects on deck for apple right now seem to be the next generation apple tv and the iwatch. the latter will be out this fall, unless they massively fuck up. i think the problem with the former has to do more with eddy cue struggling to make deals than anything else

markers, Tuesday, 13 May 2014 18:38 (twelve years ago)

like, if they could present content in the way they wanted to to users today, the device would be released sooner rather than later. (depending on how far along they are with it)

markers, Tuesday, 13 May 2014 18:39 (twelve years ago)

well, you know who's good at dealing with media companies, right?

a strange man (mh), Tuesday, 13 May 2014 18:39 (twelve years ago)

gruber said apple has the "a team" on the project (the tv one)

markers, Tuesday, 13 May 2014 18:40 (twelve years ago)

xpost eddy cue. (i'm guessing you're looking for jimmy iovine, but i don't know how well his expertise would transfer out of the music industry)

markers, Tuesday, 13 May 2014 18:40 (twelve years ago)

actually, fuck, they have bob iger on their board.

markers, Tuesday, 13 May 2014 18:42 (twelve years ago)

maybe bill campbell can go swear at someone.

markers, Tuesday, 13 May 2014 18:43 (twelve years ago)

you make all kinds of assumptions about other capabilities! I bet jimmy iovine would be able to deal with television as well as music

a strange man (mh), Tuesday, 13 May 2014 18:47 (twelve years ago)

since neither of us know, let's ask him.

markers, Tuesday, 13 May 2014 18:48 (twelve years ago)

actually, i think i'm right that he won't be used for that. everything i've seen said he'd be used for music-related stuff at the company.

markers, Tuesday, 13 May 2014 18:51 (twelve years ago)

you can already watch time-warner cable on a roku, right?

TracerHandVEVO (Tracer Hand), Tuesday, 13 May 2014 20:55 (twelve years ago)

downloading and season passes on the iPad has become a source of frustration..."you cannot redownload this" when I haven't downloaded anything, episodes not showing up in videos app, store is slow as shit, videos stay as 'processing' forever...what the fuck apple
