not that they've ever been known for their design outside of, like, paper
or that redesign they never officially rolled out to everyone
"artifcat" is a very disappointing Google search

imho facebooks design was one of the main things that made it successful, it was way ahead of its time, it started to get muddled as it tried to do everything in the world and serve ads etc, but it used to be pretty great from a ui/ux perspective

― k3vin k., Thursday, 24 April 2014 16:30 (ten years ago) link
they're going to force you to get it eventually, so you may as well just learn to like it now
― markers, Thursday, 24 April 2014 18:08 (ten years ago) link
such is the way of things now.
Also, I didn't even know about this story until today, but totally agree that Twitter is useless for "controlling the conversation"

Another Eulogy for Twitter: http://www.theatlantic.com/technology/archive/2014/04/a-eulogy-for-twitter/361339/
Some of this rings true. It does feel a bit less fun to me, and a lot of the stuff that used to be fun to join, like shared shouting at the telly, seems to have stopped. I used to think it was just me/the people I follow, but maybe it's wider than that?
― stet, Wednesday, 30 April 2014 15:44 (ten years ago) link
Also I'm pretty sure the continual fucking-around they're doing with the site and the apps is making it completely bewildering for new people, rather than a fun challenge like it used to be

I "get" that TWTR needs to make $ because it's public but it's such a sweet lil program it makes me sad that "people" think it's not worth anything and their developers keep trying to make it something its not
― idontknowanythingabouttechnlolgeez (waterface), Wednesday, 30 April 2014 15:57 (ten years ago) link
yes
― stet, Wednesday, 30 April 2014 16:05 (ten years ago) link
If it were a program it could just be open-source and live forever, but it's a service. Expensive keeping servers running that can do everything we've come to expect in real time.
But yeah it's been product managed within an inch of its life.

the twitter eulogy does resonate, have felt like that for a while, but there are certainly ways of making your own twitter better. mostly it comes down to not being boring and careerist
