I think there's something potentially insidious about "just explaining complicated stuff in an objective way" journalism, since it tends to obscure agendas and ideology. I'm reminded of that widely-cited Daily Beast piece about the Allen/Farrow molestation charges that took that "Whoa whoa, let's look at ALL the facts" approach to mask an obvious pro-Allen bias.
None of this has anything to do with "basic."

can they have a vlog where a youth explains things to me? it'd be more honest and you'd understand the narrative bias instead of this run-around they're trying

tbh i love matt yglesias
http://gawker.com/please-stop-showing-your-thumbs-on-social-media-1674295275
Overall, the thumb is round and stumpy, as if at one point in Yglesias's life it was mechanically compacted. It is openly unpleasant.

http://www.washingtonmonthly.com/political-animal-a/2015_10/are_democrats_complacent_going058182.php
excerpt:
After reading Matt Yglesias’ cri de coeur against “complacent” Democrats who don’t seem to be aware the Donkey Party is a presidential loss away from a total conservative makeover of the country, my basic reaction is that Matt needs to get out more. The whole premise of his Vox piece is that Democrats either don’t know or don’t care that they are at a historic disadvantage at the state government level and have little chance of—or a “plan” for—regaining control of the U.S. House, either. The Democrats I talk to seem pretty aware of the situation, if perhaps too sanguine about their long-term prospects (thanks to faith in demographics or doubt that the craziness rampant in the GOP will enable that party to pull of a trifecta).
But aside from Matt’s questionable assessment of Democratic self-knowledge, his hypothesis also suffers a bit from the assumption that the party’s downballot problems can be dispelled by more effort or some undefined “plan.”

matt le blanc
I don't know if things are as bleak as Yglasias thinks, but it's at least a strong corrective to the endless stream of articles predicting the impending collapse of the GOP. So long as they hold congress, the supreme Court and lots of state offices, it seems just a tiny bit myopic to call them dead.
