I drove past dinky town last night and there were more SWATted out cops than I've ever seen in my life. It looked like something out of a batman movie, or like someone tried to rob the federal reserve. Probably 200 fully armored cops in a 2 block area. Cop cars completely lining and blocking the streets; there was hardly enough room for all the cops to stand around holding their dicks. I saw twice as many cops as students; in fact, it didn't really look like there were any more kids out than a typical weeknight. There's no way those dozen arrests weren't all completely trumped up to save face. Must have been at least a couple hundred thousand dollars wiorth of overtime/"hazard" pay wasted last night.

On the other hand, I guess, I was in Dinkytown during the 2003 hockey riot, too, which were pretty huge and scary and destructive, and didn't have enough police presence (or any at all, that I remember). But even that riot could have been broken up by like 1/2 the cops that were out last night.

some of these, you're like, woah hey mr policeman, and then others you're like, there's some dudes gonna get maced

i wonder if the people who go out for this are like, deliberate about it, or if they just feel this urge to jubilate

when i see that many people standing somewhere i walk the other way

j., Friday, 11 April 2014 22:25 (twelve years ago)

Woah, oops, I didn't see jackasses jumping off cop cars or that there were so many ppl there. Still, there were just about an equal number of cops as kids

Sinn also learned about graffiti culture. He found common touches that suggested the taggers were marking their territory.

i assume they had like numbers or something to sell the whole project but the more hype i hear the weirder it sounds to me that having a train rather than a bus is gonna make that many more people want to ride down university

especially if slower

i will eventually enjoy not having to be cooped up on a bus for the ride, but still, transport is transport

j., Sunday, 18 May 2014 23:27 (twelve years ago)

some ppl that are psyched for the train are also ppl that would never countenance riding a bus w/poors so there's that

gbx, Monday, 19 May 2014 00:29 (twelve years ago)

haha do they think the poors are just gonna keep chooglin along on the 16

one of the commenters on that article made the number of riders, at least in potential throughput, sound quite a bit larger based on the numbers. but maybe it's just a psychological/design thing. i don't think anything of hopping on the blue line when it's accessible to me, but even after years of riding the bus it's still like, a thing, riding a bus.

a 48-minute run

Metro Transit officials note that most passengers will not be taking the Green Line as a commuter rail most days, and the vast majority of trips will take place within shorter segments of the corridor.

i guess that's true about shorter segments, if you consider like frogtown to campus or midway to downtown 'segments'. but how are 16 and 50 riders not going to be riding the train as a commuter rail??

Things I eat at the fair every year: jerk chicken roti from Harry Singh's (because I don't get to his actual restaurant often enough), deep fried pickles (gtfo with chocolate and powdered sugar though), deep fried turkey sandwich, and an andouille from Sausage by Cynthia. And I really love the stuffed green pepper (from the little hut that's shaped just like one.)
