are those of us who haven't read the books but have read wikis about the events which took place before the books allowed to speculate on this thread? feels like a spoiler grey zone. I have a "theory" but it's probably a well-known one amongst the book readers. I suppose it's best kept to myself.

for any who haven't read those wiki pre-histories I recommend it--sort of a very cool high romantic story in it's own right.

Heh we could start a THIRD thread for people in that situation. I can probably guess which theory you're referring to, which I don't think the show has really emphasized.

also is SIGNIFICANT CHARACTER's parentage even in question? i mean i know it's yet to be resolved but there only seems to be one credible theory. maybe it needs its own thread.

it is def the only theory that makes sense once you read the backstory.

the theory is so foreshadowed in the books it's unreal and it would make no sense for it to be any other combination. probably best to go to the book thread.

Definitely avoid the ASOIAF wiki, as it's current with the books.

haha yeah I should stress i inevitably find out more than I wanted. but on be main one there a big tab for "history" or something like that. "spoiler-free" is probably very relative but it's all basically the record.

I figure this show has maybe 1 or 2 more seasons of high ratings before people get tired of being endlessly strung along and things become uncontrollably convoluted and pointless

feel like this is set up such that no conclusion will be satisfying. feels like it's kinda meant to go on forever, what with the whole starting in the middle tactic and the disposability of the characters

Audience expectations for cannibals to be culinary artisans could be a result of watching Hannibal, some of these fuckers just want to chomp on yer bits!

tbh I didn't pick up on the theory until I started trawling ASOIAF wikis AKA while waiting for MOAR BOOKS/EPISODES.

Yeah I certainly wouldn't have clocked on my own. So much backstory being flung at you in the books it's hard to know exactly what is significant.

Dunno if this has all been over above already but one of my favourite things about the show is that two of my favourite characters are actors I used to be familiar with but didn't recognise them until someone else told me. Jerome Flynn from Robson and Jerome Rory Mcann, who was in an old Scottish porridge advert and a wheelchair user in the sitcom Book Group.

yeah dude has put a lot of work in on his accent, probably especially now that he's getting US film roles

Feel like making Oberyn bi is a little bit too on the nose, was that hinted at too in the books?? NB I totally missed out on Renly in the books but it seems pretty obvious now after rereading the relevant passages

i have no problem with making oberyn bi but it was definitely played like a "...did i SHOCK you" moment which is a bit lame in this day and age

Been a long time but I think he comes across as more cunning and sophisticated in the books

They're really trying to play up the "this guy ain't from around here and he's not gonna play by the rules of WESTEROS" or w/e (NB before some nerd points out that Dorne actually is in Westeros 1) you know what I mean 2) those maps in the paperbacks are shit)

Oberyn's sexuality isn't hinted at in the books -- it's fairly well spelled out (or at least with characters repeating rumors). I'm more miffed that he's more White Viper than Red Viper.
