They made a big deal of showing where the sword came from at the start of the episode. same one that ned beheaded dude with at start of the series and that he in turn got whacked with when his time came.

are those of us who haven't read the books but have read wikis about the events which took place before the books allowed to speculate on this thread? feels like a spoiler grey zone. I have a "theory" but it's probably a well-known one amongst the book readers. I suppose it's best kept to myself.

for any who haven't read those wiki pre-histories I recommend it--sort of a very cool high romantic story in it's own right.

Heh we could start a THIRD thread for people in that situation. I can probably guess which theory you're referring to, which I don't think the show has really emphasized.
