Some people perceive other people not owning something as an implied slight on them for owning that thing and would prefer them to keep quiet about the whole thing and come up with more palatable answers but never let on that they have made a decision not to own that thing. Its the same on the gun thread too unfortunately

Thats the thing, i actually have a gun but some of the attitudes in that tv thread towards non-tv owners I was quite taken aback by. I've never thought that way about non-gun owners, I think its a fair enough lifestyle choice to go without!

People are really weird. Some people believe that not having something is an inherently aggressive action, like people are actually "not owning a thing *AT* them".

I would never have thought that a joke thread was worthy of 400+ posts worth of discussion, but I guess some people do. *gr8080 shrug*

If I'd started a joke thread that somehow turned into a long conversation about art, class, technology, social etiquette and the politics of taste I'd be pretty happy tbh

yeah no way I go near that thread but it's interesting how it means something different now than it did 20 years ago
