Can I walk from the concert to the depot? Would I want to?

The Art Deco exhibit looks interesting, but is it really $21?!

How is the Peabody Museum?

TOTALLY!

Can I walk from the concert to the depot? Would I want to?

You can. You don't want to (you will have to walk through moderately confusing streets at night in a town you are unfamiliar with, plus some of the streets you'd have to walk down could charitably be described as "sketchy").

The Art Deco exhibit looks interesting, but is it really $21?!

Probably. The MFA likes to ream people.

How is the Peabody Museum?

THE PEABODY IS GODLY. It's also sort of hidden; you have to walk through Harvard Yard towards the Science Center, then walk down Kirkland to Divinity Street and turn left down that to get to it. BUT IT'S WORTH IT.

It's also worth checking out the glass flower exhibit at the Museum of Natural History next door and taking a quick spin through Busch-Reisinger, which is on Kirkland.

Dan Perry '08 (Dan Perry), Tuesday, 28 September 2004 20:38 (twenty-one years ago)

you could walk, the green line is much much easier.

$21? sheesh, i get into the museum for free.

you should check out the Isabella Stewart Museum if you get the chance

i'd offer to walk you from the show to the greyhound station but i don't know who i am going to the show with.

kephm (kephm), Tuesday, 28 September 2004 20:41 (twenty-one years ago)

I was going to mention the Gardner but wasn't sure if you were looking for a fine arts museum.

I wish I was still ushering at The Orpheum; I'd see this show for free.

Dan Perry '08 (Dan Perry), Tuesday, 28 September 2004 20:42 (twenty-one years ago)

I should prob take the subway, er T, anyway, as my Ctown bus departs at 11.30. Good thing Morrissey likes to get an early night's rest. If he is feeling particularly feisty, there is also a bus at 2.

Kephm, which night are you going to and where are your seats? My seats are somewhere in the orchestra, not really close, but not really far away, either.

Mary (Mary), Tuesday, 28 September 2004 22:08 (twenty-one years ago)

you know, i am not even sure yet. a friend bought the tickets and we've been phone tagging. i will revive when i find out

Fuck You, Yamantaka Eye (ex machina), Wednesday, 29 September 2004 14:05 (twenty-one years ago)

so were the boredoms

kephm (kephm), Wednesday, 29 September 2004 14:10 (twenty-one years ago)

but you were in 5th grade, so you missed out

kephm (kephm), Wednesday, 29 September 2004 14:11 (twenty-one years ago)

you also missed Vanilla Ice, poor you

kephm (kephm), Wednesday, 29 September 2004 14:13 (twenty-one years ago)

The Gardener Musuem is excellent

Michael F Gill (Michael F Gill), Wednesday, 29 September 2004 16:52 (twenty-one years ago)

Yes it is very much so.

Velveteen Bingo (Chris V), Wednesday, 29 September 2004 16:53 (twenty-one years ago)

Yes. Make sure you check out the big Sargent under the stairs to the left of the arboretum... El Jaleo, I think it's called. Properly it's 'magesterial' but effectively it's 'cool as shit.'

{Sand in the [vaseline} on the lens] (x Jeremy), Wednesday, 29 September 2004 16:55 (twenty-one years ago)

Also there is an 80s/electro-funk/etc night at Great Scott's in Allston on Thursday. If you can resist the allure of going to see SUPERGRASS.

Michael F Gill (Michael F Gill), Wednesday, 29 September 2004 17:03 (twenty-one years ago)

gardener suggestion thirded (or is that fourthed?)

i worked right around the corner from there

boston is cool. i just don't like bu students, in general. i lived in an apartment building with far too many of them.

amateur!!!st (amateurist), Wednesday, 29 September 2004 17:30 (twenty-one years ago)

TS: BU students vs BC students

Dan Perry '08 (Dan Perry), Wednesday, 29 September 2004 17:53 (twenty-one years ago)

i was picked up at a show by a cute BC student, so they have the edge. however i don't really know what they're like in general.

amateur!!!st (amateurist), Wednesday, 29 September 2004 17:58 (twenty-one years ago)

A DOOM GLOOMY PLACE.

what i love about BC is that it has the best college radio station in the country but NONE of the students ever listen

kephm, Wednesday, 29 September 2004 18:15 (twenty-one years ago)

the girl who picked me up was a deejay, in fact

amateur!!!st (amateurist), Wednesday, 29 September 2004 18:25 (twenty-one years ago)

no way. too cool for school.

kephm, Wednesday, 29 September 2004 18:29 (twenty-one years ago)

BC, definately.

{Sand in the [vaseline} on the lens] (x Jeremy), Wednesday, 29 September 2004 18:39 (twenty-one years ago)

"what i love about BC is that it has the best college radio station in the country but NONE of the students ever listen"

Better than Emerson radio? Admittedly I haven't heard BC radio.

Michael F Gill (Michael F Gill), Wednesday, 29 September 2004 18:53 (twenty-one years ago)

oy yeah, easily. 90.3 the Z

emersons station is good too though.

kephm, Wednesday, 29 September 2004 19:01 (twenty-one years ago)

Yes. Emerson is good too

kephm, Wednesday, 29 September 2004 19:01 (twenty-one years ago)

kephm almost OTM; I'd say Emerson and BC are equivalent but they're both WAY BETTER than any other game in town.

Dan Perry '08 (Dan Perry), Wednesday, 29 September 2004 19:06 (twenty-one years ago)

i beg to differ. ive been listening to wzbc for 20 years. Emerson doesnt have nearly as much variety.

kephm, Wednesday, 29 September 2004 19:11 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm not talking variety, I'm talking about how much I enjoy listening to both.

Dan Perry '08 (Dan Perry), Wednesday, 29 September 2004 19:12 (twenty-one years ago)

ERS has the same shows on daily (weekdays). that's a bit meh

xpost

really? you must listen to much more a cappella , bluegrass and gospel

kephm, Wednesday, 29 September 2004 19:14 (twenty-one years ago)

Dan is the acapella king of ILM Boston.

Michael F Gill (Michael F Gill), Wednesday, 29 September 2004 19:18 (twenty-one years ago)

Boston sucks ass!! Taste NYC's capitalism bitches!!!
-- Ally-zay (sor...), October 17th, 2003.

Eisbär (llamasfur), Thursday, 30 September 2004 03:31 (twenty-one years ago)

Boston needs a capitalism bitch or two to liven things up.

moneyonthedancefloor (kephm), Thursday, 30 September 2004 12:36 (twenty-one years ago)

I liked WZBC too, but I found frustrating how the djs would play 10 songs in a row and then forget to say what they all were in the breaks between songs. Emerson's studios are very nice on the inside - I wouldn't have minded doing shows there. (I am totally biased about boston college radio)

marianna, Thursday, 30 September 2004 12:51 (twenty-one years ago)

Kephm, if you are in the orchestra, look out for me, and say hello. I will be the one trying to not to subtlely scam my way toward the front. Have you seen any NYC FAP pictures? Well, I don't look like that anymore. I now have a short, boy's haircut.

Mary (Mary), Sunday, 3 October 2004 21:20 (twenty-one years ago)

BC v. BU students...BC students for playing chicken on Comm. Ave. less often, BU students for cars one will likely forever envy and never own. Ultimately a wash though (i.e. neither are big on redeeming qualities [as generalizations go, which undergrads do...?]).

ZBC v. ERS - ERS is a hair more listenable than ZBC can be at times. Although, on average, ZBC sponsors better shows.

Up Beacon Street (over the bridge on your right) from Buckminster is Audubon Circle which has great, cheap eats, the best bathrooms in Boston and decor to match.

nader (nader), Monday, 4 October 2004 00:43 (twenty-one years ago)

somerville vs. cambridge?

Remy (x Jeremy), Monday, 4 October 2004 02:46 (twenty-one years ago)

Jamaica Plain vs Allston vs Mission Hill

Michael F Gill (Michael F Gill), Monday, 4 October 2004 14:42 (twenty-one years ago)

how recognisable are the places where the public executions are described in A Handmaid's Tale?

DV (dirtyvicar), Monday, 4 October 2004 16:22 (twenty-one years ago)

Boston, why do you wear baseball caps, muscle tees, and shorts to concerts?

Mary (Mary), Wednesday, 6 October 2004 13:46 (twenty-one years ago)

thats the official uniform of concertgoers in massachusetts.

Velveteen Bingo (Chris V), Wednesday, 6 October 2004 13:50 (twenty-one years ago)

because all the clubs are near Fenway

Professor Challenger (ex machina), Wednesday, 6 October 2004 13:54 (twenty-one years ago)

mary, i didn't make the show cause i was sick. how many smiths songs did i miss?

kephm, Wednesday, 6 October 2004 13:55 (twenty-one years ago)

About three or four. The Boston crowd loves their Smiths songs. They went crazy for "How Soon is Now" and stared blindly for Moz-solo.

Mary (Mary), Wednesday, 6 October 2004 14:02 (twenty-one years ago)

heaven knows i'm miserable now

kephm, Wednesday, 6 October 2004 14:06 (twenty-one years ago)

Were you there last night? I was hanging out in front of the Orpheum chatting with some castmembers as the show let out (and actually ran into people I know who went to the concert).

Did you see the "models"?

Dan Perry '08 (Dan Perry), Wednesday, 6 October 2004 14:07 (twenty-one years ago)

Yes, I was there! I hightailed it out quick though as I had to rush to the Buckminster, pick up my bag, then rush to the C'town bus. Did you see Mozzer leave the theater? What models?

Mary (Mary), Wednesday, 6 October 2004 14:13 (twenty-one years ago)

I didn't see Moz, alas; we were down by the bagel place near the subway exit.

There were some "models" (ie, painfully thin, unattractive women, and I mean SERIOUSLY unattractive, like missing teeth and cross-eyed pony unattractive) dressed up in goofy, outlandish gear (ie, metallic fabric off-the-shoulder-in-a-Flashdance-stylee blouses with plastic miniskirts and thigh boots with their hair teased out to Connecticut) who were strutting around Boston Common near the Park Street T-station and walking up and down Winter St by the construction around the corner from the theater with a photographer in tow putting them into wildly goofy tableaus. It was very amusing.
