And there's more snow+rain in the forecast for the next few days! March is painful mostly because it seems to promise to be nice and then turns harsh on a dime. It's a good time to be on vacation really. Or at least look at pictures of tropical beaches if you can't go anywhere (I have been doing this, no shame.)

obliquity of the ecliptic (rrrobyn), Tuesday, 18 March 2014 20:56 (twelve years ago)

this marsh came in like a lion and is leaving like a bitch

Brian Eno's Mother (Latham Green), Tuesday, 18 March 2014 20:57 (twelve years ago)

I almost went full nihilist stuck in a cycle of grey freezing-cold days coupled with 24/7 morning-sickness for the past two months. I feel like a survivor today just for leaving the house to do laundry. 12 winters here and i still sometimes ponder leaving because of the weather far more than the politics!

obliquity of the ecliptic (rrrobyn), Tuesday, 18 March 2014 21:03 (twelve years ago)

i hate people who went to california but ... i went to california

just because last winter was so hard that i felt like something had to be in the calendar, a picture pinned against the wall & traced with trembling fingers, dustin hoffman in midnight cowboy, or i wouldn't make it til spring. & then actually this winter turned out to be fine? just fine! every day above -30 really just a triumph. less time this year spent waiting for a bus to arrive or a light to change at a windy crossroad, scrunching my toes. it has been okay but yeah, march refusing to deliver on its promise of palpably easing is hard because you've only budgeted enough endurance for february

days like today remind me at least a little of some of the whenever-they-were (april? may?) days last year of prematurely picking up takeout cold brew coffees & people smiling at you on the street, this simultaneous civic defrost. i can't take the subway anymore. but it feels like it'll be over soon, or almost over enough for that delusion to paper over the chill

mustread guy (schlump), Tuesday, 18 March 2014 21:06 (twelve years ago)

april promising weather + politics, quick, split

mustread guy (schlump), Tuesday, 18 March 2014 21:06 (twelve years ago)

Brian Eno's Mother (Latham Green), Thursday, 20 March 2014 19:40 (twelve years ago)

one month passes...

why am i so annoyed by the whole food truck thing here

obliquity of the ecliptic (rrrobyn), Friday, 2 May 2014 02:48 (twelve years ago)

except for the really good coffee truck, that can stay

obliquity of the ecliptic (rrrobyn), Friday, 2 May 2014 02:48 (twelve years ago)

which is the good coffee truck? on parc?

food trucks in montreal seem kinda potemkin to me

schlump, Friday, 2 May 2014 03:57 (twelve years ago)

they're doing it wrong.

(the food truck thing)

socki (s1ocki), Friday, 2 May 2014 13:06 (twelve years ago)

basically you can only get a food truck in this city if you already own a restaurant and you promise to put $9 pulled pork sandwiches on the menu.

socki (s1ocki), Friday, 2 May 2014 13:06 (twelve years ago)

Most pulled pork sandwiches cost $9 already. The food truck version would be a pulled pork banh mi slider.

fields of salmon, Friday, 2 May 2014 14:13 (twelve years ago)

Thinking it's time I come back the next month or so.

With Mutek and Suoni Per Il Popolo, should I consider moving to Mtl for end of May/June?

Kornblud (admrl), Thursday, 15 May 2014 19:22 (twelve years ago)

do it! feel like you're simultaneously more & less eligible for the thrill of seeing los angeles plays itself at the cinematheque in a couple weeks but come anyway. montreal is in #full #spring.

also admrl come before i leave montreal forever, soon

schlump, Thursday, 15 May 2014 19:26 (twelve years ago)

yesssssss

whats your deal as of sept adam?

socki (s1ocki), Thursday, 15 May 2014 19:27 (twelve years ago)

deal as in...?

I will come soon, maybe even in a few weeks. I think Mtl is by far and away my favorite East Coast city, if you even consider it that

Kornblud (admrl), Thursday, 15 May 2014 19:34 (twelve years ago)

Oh I am staying put where I am now, if that's what you mean. I'm in this for the long(er) haul.

Kornblud (admrl), Thursday, 15 May 2014 19:35 (twelve years ago)

I'll be in yr city for a week starting the 26th

a strange man (mh), Thursday, 15 May 2014 19:40 (twelve years ago)

my favorite East Coast city, if you even consider it that

if philadelphia can be considered "on the coast," then why not Montreal?

also, i agree.

espring (amateurist), Thursday, 15 May 2014 19:44 (twelve years ago)

well finally we agree on something

Kornblud (admrl), Thursday, 15 May 2014 19:50 (twelve years ago)

Brian Eno's Mother (Latham Green), Thursday, 15 May 2014 20:10 (twelve years ago)

espring (amateurist), Thursday, 15 May 2014 21:08 (twelve years ago)

Mutek is going to be great! So much good stuff this year. plus a lot of it is at the contemporary art museum, which will make an interesting difference of some sort, who knows. and there's a bunch of free outdoor stuff that is pretty cool and weird, so we get to see baffled looks on random tourists' faces.

obliquity of the ecliptic (rrrobyn), Friday, 16 May 2014 13:28 (twelve years ago)

Yeah!

So I think I'll come up in a couple of weeks. Time to play the hotel/airbnb game again.

Kornblud (admrl), Friday, 16 May 2014 13:35 (twelve years ago)

hi

a strange man (mh), Monday, 26 May 2014 20:07 (twelve years ago)

Hi mh!

Omg I forgot PA was opening new location today! It feels so much closer to my house even tho the difference is, seriously, a block.

obliquity of the ecliptic (rrrobyn), Monday, 26 May 2014 21:13 (twelve years ago)

where is the new one?

Neckbread (Will M.), Monday, 26 May 2014 21:32 (twelve years ago)

i cant handle this

socki (s1ocki), Monday, 26 May 2014 21:34 (twelve years ago)

it's amazing
almost a carnival atmosphere
in spite of a resounding zero tie-in celebratory deals
actually maybe premiere maison baguettes are 2/$3
but yeah wild times

will it's on parc at fairmount, across the street. whenever i see stores w/francophone mention of TAPIS i always think TAPIRS, & it's next to a tapir store, go grocery shopping & grab a capybara on yr way out

schlump, Monday, 26 May 2014 21:42 (twelve years ago)

i got a free shot of sambuca so

socki (s1ocki), Monday, 26 May 2014 21:49 (twelve years ago)

what is PA and do they have any sambuca left

a strange man (mh), Monday, 26 May 2014 22:08 (twelve years ago)

it is a store full of food! and now apparently sambuca sometimes

obliquity of the ecliptic (rrrobyn), Monday, 26 May 2014 23:20 (twelve years ago)

only in montreal does a store open or move and the management is like "booze for everyone!!" e.g., they were giving away samples of sapporo beer at the renovated loblaws in parc-ex the other day)

obliquity of the ecliptic (rrrobyn), Monday, 26 May 2014 23:24 (twelve years ago)

I have names heard that were dropped over dinner I am going to have to run past you guys later to see what credibility level things clock at

a strange man (mh), Tuesday, 27 May 2014 00:28 (twelve years ago)

I went to Atom Heart (I know, music on physical media, lol me) on the way out of town and wanted to buy an album but they only had the promo listening station copy left, so they gave it to me for free! Buy something there.

a strange man (mh), Wednesday, 4 June 2014 01:04 (twelve years ago)

one month passes...

mmttllblog.wordpress.com is my favourite thing atm

Neckbread (Will M.), Tuesday, 8 July 2014 16:38 (eleven years ago)

this place gave me a parking ticket, should i pay it?

k3vin k., Tuesday, 8 July 2014 16:46 (eleven years ago)

the city really needs the money, so it would be nice if you did

silverfish, Tuesday, 8 July 2014 19:49 (eleven years ago)

1/3 of it will just fund the lavish suburban homes of extended Calabrian or Sicilian families. Don't pay it.

fields of salmon, Tuesday, 8 July 2014 21:45 (eleven years ago)

well i'm less interested in the moral implications than i am in the legal ones
