it's a pretty short game too. i could have redboxed this and saved like $50.

one of these made me really angrily google 'south park game randy fart'

Lol I had a lot of trouble with that one too. T'was worth it for all the epic farting humour to come from it though... Matt and Trey you did it again you epic bastards.

It always gets on my nerves when modern games do a "retro" level and suddenly you are seeing 16-bit sprites mixed in with 8-bit sounds and "oh do we really have to re-draw the main characters? let's just use the HD 3d models from the rest of the game." Lazy.

Season finale needed more of U2 menacing people with Xmas gifts, but there was a lot of stuff left on the whiteboard to get through.

it just occurred to me that I didn't see a single episode of the past season and I didn't miss it at all

I once say Trey Parker in line for beer at a Dallas Cowboys game. It was... unexpected.

this season has been really good

Caught the new one last night, probably the worst episode I have ever seen. It's like they wrote the episode while waiting in the dentist office reading this summer's editions of Newsweek.

AdamVania (Adam Bruneau), Friday, 18 September 2015 15:53 (ten years ago)

Curious what ilx people think about the season premiere, and the current popularity of political correctness theme.

xpost well there you go

Evan, Friday, 18 September 2015 15:57 (ten years ago)

I'm having trouble seeing political correctness as a problem for anyone other than the people complaining about it. Which, there are so many things in the world to complain about, just seems mostly self indulgent. Also watching this yesterday with the most recent school scandal being the Muslim kid busted for his clock. Schools are too politically correct yet also cops will just randomly arrest a 9th grader for racist reasons. Bad timing.

Maybe they will love it in the Creepy Liberalism thread.

AdamVania (Adam Bruneau), Friday, 18 September 2015 16:08 (ten years ago)

SP's politics + racism have always been abhorrent

this show is worthless when it's not focusing on Randy or Cartman doing insane things to serve their egos

Οὖτις, Friday, 18 September 2015 16:13 (ten years ago)

yeah that was really terrible. it's weird because over the last few seasons they gradually moved the show's overall message towards an umbrella "don't be an asshole," albeit often delivered in assholish terms, whereas this went right back to that unfunny kneejerk zone they've been better at avoiding? idk maybe I'm imagining the improvement. I admit I did laugh at the ending bit, wherein everyone literally got to have their cake and eat it, too.

the naive cockney chorus (Simon H.), Friday, 18 September 2015 16:51 (ten years ago)

I thought the "PC frat dude" idea was kind of funny at first, but then again I think they were trying to portray advocates of political correctness to be bullies in a sense? Getting in peoples faces when they say anything of any level discriminatory or "problematic".

Evan, Friday, 18 September 2015 17:28 (ten years ago)

that is the standard right wing line

Οὖτις, Friday, 18 September 2015 17:29 (ten years ago)

ie "why can't I, as a white man, say whatever the fuck I want to whoever I want, with no repercussions or response whatsoever"

Οὖτις, Friday, 18 September 2015 17:30 (ten years ago)

let's be real, that is in no way confined to the right wing

I Am Curious (Dolezal) (DJP), Friday, 18 September 2015 17:30 (ten years ago)

does the left complain about political correctness? (I don't really follow the free speech and creepy liberalism thread)

Οὖτις, Friday, 18 September 2015 17:37 (ten years ago)

It's the extremes of both sides of this argument that are the loudest. That's the problem with a cartoon making commentary- the other side on any issue will always be the cartoony extreme.

Evan, Friday, 18 September 2015 17:38 (ten years ago)

the problem isn't the format, it's the fact that Parker and Stone are assholes

Οὖτις, Friday, 18 September 2015 17:39 (ten years ago)

i havent watched SP in six or seven years, and i thoroughly enjoyed the new episode. complaining about political correctness =/= wanting to say whatever the fuck you want

flappy bird, Friday, 18 September 2015 17:40 (ten years ago)

It would have been a better portrayal to have cartoony tumblr inspired PC frat bullies fighting cartoony reddit MRA advocates or something, while everyone else kind of stays out of it and has a rational discussion.

Evan, Friday, 18 September 2015 17:40 (ten years ago)

plenty ostensibly on the left will complain about IDENTITY POLITICS! and its concomitant problems including political correctness getting in the way of real politics, whatever real politics is

Merdeyeux, Friday, 18 September 2015 17:41 (ten years ago)

I have never heard that but I don't generally run in academic circles what do I know

Οὖτις, Friday, 18 September 2015 17:42 (ten years ago)

Shakey, Jonathan Chait has shown his ass repeatedly this year complaining about the mean ol' PC police who are ruining Democratic politics for everyone.

ILXors selectively missing the many many parts of that episode where they actually side/agree with PC culture/goals is just as bad as "south park republicans" thinking it was a huge shot at PC CULTURE GONE MAD

The entire fucking thing was about coming to terms with the fact that society is changing and maybe doing a show run on handicapped and asian jokes for 19 years may not have been the best decision

"Because PC Principal [principle] is right, Kyle. You and I are bigots, and it's time for us to grow up."

kind of a worthless mea culpa when a) they continue to mine those subjects for laffs and b) people complained about that shit 19 years ago too

Οὖτις, Tuesday, 22 September 2015 15:35 (ten years ago)

I wonder if the makers of south park were to notice yr standard ilxor taking a standard ilx position on any one thing might they feel that perhaps that position had been noted, in its good and bad, in the majority of south park shows, my guess is that they might feel that it had so I'm wondering why standard ilxors are taking standard ilx positions itt.

deejerk reactions (darraghmac), Tuesday, 22 September 2015 15:43 (ten years ago)

the character meant to be imparting those ~lessons~ is beating the shit out of them.

the only part of the episode you could take "straight" was the elderly neighbors (aka Parker and Stone, increasingly estranged from their target audience) saying "welp, this is happening again, gonna blow over soon enough!"

the naive cockney chorus (Simon H.), Tuesday, 22 September 2015 15:44 (ten years ago)

What exactly is the standard ilxor position?

Cartman: "[S]ometimes joking about un-PC things can actually be important, because it starts a dialogue. . . . What's wrong, Kyle? You have your cake. Eat it, too.

Stan: It just seems to me like we all lost in this, and that the only person who won was you.

the half of the outraged people watching south park who feel that the right wing was being boosted or not being satirised enough, yknow yourself.

deejerk reactions (darraghmac), Tuesday, 22 September 2015 20:30 (ten years ago)

Not outraged I just don't find "South Park is a victim of PC culture" very funny nor deep commentary on anything other than South Park.

AdamVania (Adam Bruneau), Tuesday, 22 September 2015 20:40 (ten years ago)

The one "right wing" leaning SP moment that I often wonder about is the global warming mention in the now 10+ year old episode about future people coming back in time and taking everyone's jobs. The delivery made it sound like they weren't necessarily making a joke about "shit rednecks say", and were actually bashing global warming science (The line went something like "Even if global warming was real, which all proven scientific data shows it is not, how would that... etc."). I remember hearing something about them being friends with Penn & Teller who were also deniers at the time. But maybe I misinterpreted. If not, I wonder what they'd say about it now.
