Scottish comedian Limmy is working on a comedy book. The writer and actor, real name Brian Limond, first came to prominence via his online blogs and videos. He has since gone on to create three series of the award-winning BBC Scotland sketch format Limmy's Show! and recently contributed filmed inserts for Charlie Brooker's Weekly Wipe.Limond is now working on Daft Wee Stories, which is being described by publishers as a "inventive and funny" book.Daft Wee Stories will feature a mix of "stories, thoughts, musings and anecdotes" from the comedian. The publication will present readers with a mix of short and long stories, with "stupid ones next to thoughtful ones, some written in the first person, some in the third person, some with illustrations, and some the size of a tweet sitting in the centre of the page".Jack Fogg from publishers Century says: "Limmy has one of the most original, thoughtful and brilliant comic minds I've encountered. He can flip from side-splittingly funny to genuinely profound in the space of a paragraph. will read fuck out of that
― sktsh, Sunday, 22 June 2014 21:09 (eleven years ago)
Limmy's Millport sketch alone indicates that he might well suit a more serious oeuvre too

Promising young comedian Limmy has shown in his brief public appearances so far that his best work might extend beyond mere comedy
― avicii usque ad arse (imago), Sunday, 22 June 2014 21:23 (eleven years ago)
Yeah, I was gunna say, Limmy's appearances on Charlie Brooker's latest series exposed him to plenty of America

would love to hear american ilxors take on limmy btw
― NI, Monday, 23 June 2014 01:03 (eleven years ago)
he's doing readings & signings for the book so going all-out to get him booked in for a manchester slot. he's loath to do any actual live sets after the 2 or 3 he did, but would be so great if this was a step toward that proper
― NI, Monday, 23 June 2014 01:05 (eleven years ago)
4 out of 5 Americans I've shown Limmy's Adventure Call to love it.

1 out of 5 didn't like it when he mock-strangled Jingle

I watched that vine 1-300 compilation last summer and it was a rare time when I needed to shout my laughter out to get it out my system. Watched the 301-600 video a few days ago and that was great too.
I love that "class A designer drug ecstasy" voice.

the book is out tomorrow

I'd always assumed that Limmy's work was a big outlet for his madness and that day to day he'd be quite diffident and socially anxious, but on his book readings he's just been affably commanding the attention of hundreds of people like an old school game show host, so naturally funny and at ease the whole time
Is the book any good? The deadpan bombshell he dropped in the middle of the second story he read last night had people next to me doubled over crying with laughter for minutes afterwards

Brian is Limmy and vice versa, in my (admittedly outdated) experience
― The Tony Hart Land (Tom D.), Saturday, 8 August 2015 14:17 (ten years ago)
I downloaded the audiobook, it's good. No doubling over for me yet but I've drawn glances with the occasional snort-laugh. It's exactly as it says, daft wee stories, often grotesque, often with ironic punchlines you can spot a mile off, lots of great one-liners. Not earth-shattering but it's lovely to hear him read, he's a rare storyteller

mmm
danone
― paolo, Monday, 10 August 2015 08:07 (ten years ago)
saw him on friday and it was entertaining but a strange atmos with braying crowd shouting catchphrases I hadn't heard any of the stories and they were fun I'd like to listen to the audiobook and he did the q&a handling questions such as "do you think you deserve to be world famous?" wasn't sure how it was going to go but he seemed to be enjoying it
― conrad, Monday, 10 August 2015 08:14 (ten years ago)
did anyone say 'answer the question, yes or no?'

what was his answer to "do you think you deserve to be world famous?"? saw him in manchester, was amazing but then again i'm a signed-up ultrafanboy. kinda wish someone would ask him about his estranged ex-con brother's claims that he came up with most of limmy's material, but don't know if that'd be going too far. he has been v candid in the q&as though, talking about how 'eckied dad' is so funny because of the line 'i'll be with you soon hen', as his mother is dead.
― NI, Wednesday, 12 August 2015 03:03 (ten years ago)
started rewatching limmy's show s3 in advance and was shocked by how poor episode 1 is, esp the first half. fairly sure it picks up as the series goes on, but there are some dismal dismal sketches in that one
― NI, Wednesday, 12 August 2015 03:04 (ten years ago)
Aye, it was a bit of a shiter.
― corbyn's gallus (jim in glasgow), Wednesday, 12 August 2015 04:35 (ten years ago)
what was his answer to "do you think you deserve to be world famous?"
think it was "wi this fuckin accent?"
― Dadjokke (Sgt. Biscuits), Wednesday, 12 August 2015 16:27 (ten years ago)
Whatever the truth about him using his brother's ideas, I find a lot of his brother's own videos/audio unpleasant. Especially interviewing that crying woman on the street, unless it wasn't his brother.
― Robert Adam Gilmour, Wednesday, 12 August 2015 17:20 (ten years ago)
S3 ends really, really strongly iirc
― imago, Wednesday, 12 August 2015 17:27 (ten years ago)
xp. his brother is a bitter, bigoted (jailed for racist abuse of a journalist online), unfunny arsehole. clearly a fantasist. the idea that limmy stole anything from him is absurd, as evidenced by a) how incredibly unfunny his brother is and b) the sheer length and breadth of original, funny content limmy has created over the last decade or so.
― corbyn's gallus (jim in glasgow), Wednesday, 12 August 2015 17:31 (ten years ago)
like his twitter bio used to bemoan the fact that limmy had stolen his name, ignoring the fact that it's incredibly common in the west of scotland for brothers to have the same surname-based nickname at school.
― corbyn's gallus (jim in glasgow), Wednesday, 12 August 2015 17:33 (ten years ago)
I've not seen the brothers stuff and I dare say there were a few jokes shared earlier that Limmy made use of but the guys been making comic sketches for about 10-12 years now
Xposts!
― Acting Crazy (Instrumental) (jed_), Wednesday, 12 August 2015 17:41 (ten years ago)
Watched one of Limmy's webcam videos. Funny the way he kept saying "place" and then mockingly correcting it to "space".

@DaftLimmyGood morning America, LIMMY'S SHOW is now on US Netflix! This is a big hello to America!I'm from Scotland
― sktsh, Tuesday, 15 December 2015 16:38 (ten years ago)
limmy a wee bit of a hard-sell for north americans wi his accent and aw, ive managed to get a couple of people into his stuff though.
the first series of limmy's show doesn't hold up that well, he's said himself it seems a little slow-paced. subsequent series he makes more cuts, sketches are a bit more kinetic.
― Karl Rove Knausgård (jim in glasgow), Tuesday, 15 December 2015 17:13 (ten years ago)
Show gets better when he gets better supporting actors in.
― ewar woowar (or something), Tuesday, 15 December 2015 17:27 (ten years ago)
aye I would also say I prefer the supporting cast in series 2 and 3
― Karl Rove Knausgård (jim in glasgow), Tuesday, 15 December 2015 17:43 (ten years ago)
The supporting players in seasons 2-3 are really amazing. So many sketches would be way less funny without them.

There's a Sky Arts 8min Christmas piece. The parts with his terrified face are the best.
― Robert Adam Gilmour, Friday, 25 December 2015 21:54 (ten years ago)
is that online anywhere yet?
― NI, Saturday, 26 December 2015 18:19 (ten years ago)
Still not on YouTube but I hope Sky Arts sees my request on their other Xmas video.
Just seen his long interview with Richard Herring, the parts about his dad dancing on drugs and societies based on what kind of jokes they could take was hilarious.
― Robert Adam Gilmour, Saturday, 13 February 2016 20:47 (ten years ago)
I feel conflicted about everything being turned into Gifs, but his terrified reactions in the Xmas short are really ripe for using on forums as Gifs.
― Robert Adam Gilmour, Saturday, 13 February 2016 20:51 (ten years ago)
well annoying it's not on youtube. i've got sky so i could've recorded it too.
anyone go to the limmy live shows last month? bunch of us went up from manchester. verdict: flawed but good, only really for full throttle limmy fans. bit panto in parts, lot of bits fell flat, lot of bits belly-achingly funny. can kinda see that he's not a great live performer but gets by on charm and skill of supporting cast. fair few old sketches rehashed to work live, often falling a bit flat. v expensive for what it was but hey, who'd begrudge him that. pretty sure he's touring the rest of the uk later this year - if you're a fan, go, but don't take people expecting it to convert them. i dunno if i'd spend another 30 odd quid on the manchester gig but i'd like to see how he's developed it. he's known for being meticulous and there's a fair amount of flab that could be trimmed
