Hooray, I've ordered _Monsters_ from the library. After viewing the trailer on youtube, it was pretty amusing to read the comments. A perky mix of dopes who adore the movie and bros who are real mad about the movie being boring relationship crap that shouldn't be called MONSTERS c'mon wtf suxx.

I have this vague suspicion/hope that Cranston will be TOO good in this movie, accurately capturing the fury and horror a scientist would feel in this apocalyptic scenario, the way Battle:Los Angeles got across how utterly miserable it would be to endure an alien invasion.

"why would my character smile and light a cigar? yes, godzilla has fallen, but the scenario that caused his return remains...his wife is still dead...sure, there would be some relief but...no...there would still be agony, trauma..."

Anyway, Cranston and Juliette Binoche! Aaron Taylor-Johnson and Elizabeth Olsen! Ken Watanabe and Sally Hawkins! David Strathairn! From a director equally adept with people and effects! If anything this whole movie is too good for "Godzilla."

The only way they could shape a trailer for that 1998 movie into something that looked the least bit thrilling or scary would be to not show any scenes or any of the cast and just have the sound of Godzilla walking and buildings falling over a black screen. Then at the end it just says "Godzilla" in big white letters. And it does not mention the director.

How I'm reading it now, which is totally flipping the movie upside down for me, is that Godzilla was subdued and in captivity and they let him go to fight this pterodactyl thing and now everything is going to hell.

Lotsa cool shots. Gareth Edwards really knows how to sell the scale of everything.

Humans, like in all Godzilla movies, are there to be witnesses and explain stuff. Anyone complaining about this is kind of a schmuck, IMO.
