haven't seen the new MLP but i can't imagine it's not better than the shitty old one.

the new MLP characters just look like powerpuff-style nu-cartoon characters, the old MLP featured some of the creepiest and least appealing character designs i've ever seen:

the pic i posted was something i found online this weekend, and whoever posted it claims that it's from a Bronycon w/ some of the people dressed up as whichever of the MLPs tickled their fancy. take that for what it's worth.

i haven't actually watched any MLP episodes -- not b/c i'm afraid i'll get brony cooties, but b/c i've been too busy lately and have a super-long list of other TV shows i want to see first/regularly watch and need to get caught up on. i kind of assume that the appeal has to do w/ the fact that it's produced by the same person who produced the Powerpuff Girls which also appealed to people outside of its target audience (though i don't remember any sort of creepy perving on any of the girls or Mojo Jojo -- then again, that show was pre-4chan so who the fuck knows).

but i'm w/ cankles and pplains here -- bronies have their rep for a reason. perving on cartoon horses -- even if said pervs are a loud minority -- is gross and wrong, no matter what. i'm sure that most bronies are OK more or less (though i'll also admit that it's funny to laugh at them even if it's a bit shameful to do that) and if the brony documentary focuses on the non-pervs in their ranks then good.

also, the "sea ponies" skit from old-school MLP was interesting in a trippy/lol acid-trip-in-a-preteen-girls-cartoon kind of way. otherwise, it had zero appeal for anyone not in the target demographic.

The new cartoon is crap, btw. It's not a show "that even adults can enjoy!" like Spongebob or Phineas & Herb. It's still real simple "Oh no! The rainbows are running out of magic!" type plots. One of the damn horses sounds like Reba McIntyre, so yes, I do leave the room when it's on.

surely there's a big difference between being an adult who even watches every my little pony episode and actually characterizing yourself socially as a brony. like one is watching a tv show and the other is a lifestyle choice. vis-a-vis adventure time, i'd consider myself a pretty big fan (it helps that my daughter + i can enjoy it together) but i would not call myself an adventure toney or whatever - it's something i watch not something i am. i like spongebob + phineas & herb too tho so obv i'm developmentally + aesthetically stunted.

If we're at the point as a society where thinking that dudes who want to fuck cartoons are creepy and pathetic makes you an asshole, I have never been prouder to be an asshole. And no, I don't think every guy who likes this show wants to fuck cartoon ponies; I only think the ones who are on the Internet talking about their imaginary pony girlfriends and "clop" want to fuck cartoon ponies. It's not like I'm projecting things onto these guys or putting words into their mouths.

And really, the only judgment I have of grown men who don't want to fuck ponies who are into MLP:FIM is that I thought the few episodes I tried to watch were super cloying and overly precious and I can't imagine voluntarily sitting through them again. Which, again, is fine; I'm not a fan of the show. Big whoop.

I watch tons of mlp:fim with my kids. I do agree that it's not as smart or cleverly-written as some people make it out to be. And feel like it went downhill quite a bit after Lauren Faust left (haven't seen anything from season 4 yet though). But it's enjoyable to me. I love Daniel Ingram's songs.

My son has been made fun of a little bit at school because he knows so much about ponies from hanging out with his sister. It doesn't win him over with the sports crowd.

I hate when I'm watching some youtubes with my daughter and a my little pony fan video will pop up in the sidebar and she'll point to that one. Then comes the agony of clicking on it and waiting to find out if its some cute, funny little homemade non-canon video or some like, atrocious 4channy ponies on drugs/watching porn/getting their heads chopped off. Send all those people to the dungeon, imo.
