also i get the feeling that MLP fandom is in general prob pretty harmless & uncreepy, but the popular perception of it gets skewed due the intersection of 4chan crepedom and internet ppl needing memes to glom

no offense, soref, but kinda think only a bot could've wrote that last sentence.

Another thing is that MLP is not for anyone over the age of 8. If there were clubs sprouting all around us of 14-year-old "children" rubbing their dicks up on stuffed Care Bears (no, I haven't googled yet, don't wanna), I'd be preaching from the same podium.

except that the current iteration of the show is made for teenagers, and is good enough that many non-weirdo adults are into it, kinda like power puff girls

1 P.3. Eternal (roxymuzak), Wednesday, 12 February 2014 01:38 (twelve years ago)

not nec made for teenagers, per se, but the creator def quoted as saying she wanted it to have wide appeal so that teens and even adults could enjoy the writing and characters

1 P.3. Eternal (roxymuzak), Wednesday, 12 February 2014 01:38 (twelve years ago)

doesnt really explain dude fuckin norbert's toes upthread, or w/e fucked up shit goes on with that shit, but i couldn't rally care less about that and i don't think common enough to warrant concern tbh. just kind of not down with vilifying children for stupid reasons, don't really care about hurting's furry BFFs or w/e

1 P.3. Eternal (roxymuzak), Wednesday, 12 February 2014 01:42 (twelve years ago)

My roomie and I watched an ep after we watched the doc

It was good & I wouldn't leave the room if somebody else was watching it

, Wednesday, 12 February 2014 01:44 (twelve years ago)

Gonna have to agree to disagree on this one.

At least these kids are playing dress-up in pony clothes and not doing something really dreadful, like playing soccer.

pplains, Wednesday, 12 February 2014 01:50 (twelve years ago)

it's a good show.

wonder how many grown men watch(/are fucking plushies related to) adventure time

"OH WELL THATS DIFFERENT"

1 P.3. Eternal (roxymuzak), Wednesday, 12 February 2014 01:53 (twelve years ago)

haven't seen the new MLP but i can't imagine it's not better than the shitty old one.

(The Other) J.D. (J.D.), Wednesday, 12 February 2014 02:02 (twelve years ago)

the new MLP characters just look like powerpuff-style nu-cartoon characters, the old MLP featured some of the creepiest and least appealing character designs i've ever seen:

the pic i posted was something i found online this weekend, and whoever posted it claims that it's from a Bronycon w/ some of the people dressed up as whichever of the MLPs tickled their fancy. take that for what it's worth.

i haven't actually watched any MLP episodes -- not b/c i'm afraid i'll get brony cooties, but b/c i've been too busy lately and have a super-long list of other TV shows i want to see first/regularly watch and need to get caught up on. i kind of assume that the appeal has to do w/ the fact that it's produced by the same person who produced the Powerpuff Girls which also appealed to people outside of its target audience (though i don't remember any sort of creepy perving on any of the girls or Mojo Jojo -- then again, that show was pre-4chan so who the fuck knows).

but i'm w/ cankles and pplains here -- bronies have their rep for a reason. perving on cartoon horses -- even if said pervs are a loud minority -- is gross and wrong, no matter what. i'm sure that most bronies are OK more or less (though i'll also admit that it's funny to laugh at them even if it's a bit shameful to do that) and if the brony documentary focuses on the non-pervs in their ranks then good.

spread to fuck the fruit (Eisbaer), Wednesday, 12 February 2014 03:51 (twelve years ago)

also, the "sea ponies" skit from old-school MLP was interesting in a trippy/lol acid-trip-in-a-preteen-girls-cartoon kind of way. otherwise, it had zero appeal for anyone not in the target demographic.

thus giving rise to the "sea-pony brony" subgenre.

funny if for no other reason than fedora'd brony kinda looks like a younger me ... :-<

how can i learn to be the kind of person who finds lonely people desperately trying to build an identity around something like my little pony fandom funny rather than sad?

Treeship, Wednesday, 12 February 2014 05:05 (twelve years ago)

how about not transferring any of our weird emotions onto extremely dorky teenagers just doing their thing

thats more condescending than just havin a chuckle at em... would you say the same thing if you saw a bunch of goofy goth kids or whatever, they're just finding something they like in this fucked up ass world and you're gonna look at them like piteous ass monsters for that?

AIDS (Hungry4Ass), Wednesday, 12 February 2014 05:36 (twelve years ago)

to seriously answer your question, treesh, you get older and look back on that shit with the feeling of recognition rather than pity because you remember when you were dumber, younger, terrified and inexperienced enough to think this goes on forever
i reserve my pity for the guys that tat BRONY 4 LIFE across the abs; everybody else gets a laugh and a pat on the back and a pass until they're at least thirty

PSY talks The Nut Job (forksclovetofu), Wednesday, 12 February 2014 05:49 (twelve years ago)

can anyone explain to me what's wrong with wanting to fuck a cartoon horse?

dylannn, Wednesday, 12 February 2014 06:00 (twelve years ago)

lol

AIDS (Hungry4Ass), Wednesday, 12 February 2014 06:02 (twelve years ago)

it seems creepy because it involves sexualizing an element of children's entertainment

Treeship, Wednesday, 12 February 2014 06:02 (twelve years ago)

i've never seen the contemporary curvaceous iteration of the show, but they aren't kids, right? the horses.

dylannn, Wednesday, 12 February 2014 06:04 (twelve years ago)

ponies are small horses.

dylannn, Wednesday, 12 February 2014 06:04 (twelve years ago)

I blame Genuwine

the Norwegians are leaving! (Sufjan Grafton), Wednesday, 12 February 2014 06:07 (twelve years ago)

also the shit eisbar is posting is just pure not funny and what happens when unfunny people get a hold of some material that they sense might be funny and go down the wrong road. like, the elements are almost there, and i think the thought process is: you've got a kid in a fedora and... okay, the shirt? it says "brony" and i've seen that in internet meme comedy material...

dylannn, Wednesday, 12 February 2014 06:10 (twelve years ago)

It's funny bc they asked him not to where his fringed leather jacket to the wedding, and he showed up in brony uniform. Classic Neil Young. He's lookin good.

the Norwegians are leaving! (Sufjan Grafton), Wednesday, 12 February 2014 06:16 (twelve years ago)

I agree that Eisbaer's picture did not make me laugh my butt off

I think the funniest MLP stuff is this and it's okay to laugh at

i hope the kid hangs himself with that belt on his bed

dylannn, Wednesday, 12 February 2014 06:21 (twelve years ago)

i can get behind that material, though. "what i have to live with" and it's a tiny cartoon horse that wants him to fuck it.

dylannn, Wednesday, 12 February 2014 06:22 (twelve years ago)

thank you 龜

AIDS (Hungry4Ass), Wednesday, 12 February 2014 06:24 (twelve years ago)

you can "get behind" it

"Once In a Lifetime (ILX 2014 Remix)"

PSY talks The Nut Job (forksclovetofu), Wednesday, 12 February 2014 06:35 (twelve years ago)

The new cartoon is crap, btw. It's not a show "that even adults can enjoy!" like Spongebob or Phineas & Herb. It's still real simple "Oh no! The rainbows are running out of magic!" type plots. One of the damn horses sounds like Reba McIntyre, so yes, I do leave the room when it's on.

Beeps loves it, though. She is a six-year-old child and I am a 40-year-old adult. Might have something to do with it.

pplains, Wednesday, 12 February 2014 14:46 (twelve years ago)

You like Spongebob? Jesus christ. What is wrong with you. Do you wanna fuck a sponge

, Wednesday, 12 February 2014 14:48 (twelve years ago)

surely there's a big difference between being an adult who even watches every my little pony episode and actually characterizing yourself socially as a brony. like one is watching a tv show and the other is a lifestyle choice. vis-a-vis adventure time, i'd consider myself a pretty big fan (it helps that my daughter + i can enjoy it together) but i would not call myself an adventure toney or whatever - it's something i watch not something i am. i like spongebob + phineas & herb too tho so obv i'm developmentally + aesthetically stunted.

I mean, this thread title is GROWN MEN Who Are Fans of MLP. I don't think I've ever come on and made fun of children for watching it.

pplains, Wednesday, 12 February 2014 14:59 (twelve years ago)

what's wrong w/ grown men being fans of the show tho? it seems sweet. as long as you're not fucking plush bronies or whatever
