this is the second time he's talked about the "Powell Doctrine" being some business/ government conspiracy plan from the 60s. What is the actual thing he's referring to?

i mean the actual name of thing. it's obv. not the Powell Doctrine.

So are they dating now? (I'm way behind on my listening, just got to the Billy Braver one yesterday) Not surprised by the heavy flirting during her interview, from both of 'em.

so crazy - i skipped the Moon Zappa one bc my tolerance of Marc + musicians is nearly nil, but my wife said that it was unlistenable because there was so much hostility and sniping in the air... it appears that "hostility and sniping" is marc's equivalent of flirting!

It's been awhile since I listened, but I honestly don't recall much sniping, it was really friendly from what I recall.

i think people mis-read the interview as Maron being disrespectful by asking to many questions about Frank, but it seemed clear they already knew each other pretty well

xp yeah didn't hear any sniping tbh (beyond Marc teasing her by asking 2-3 times what exactly it is that she does). It was pretty obv these two go way back and are pretty comfortable around each other.

feel very silly saying it but i totally called this. it crossed my mind during the zappa interview, then when he started being coy about seeing somebody that's what popped into my head (i mean, if he was dating someone whose name no one would recognize then there would be no need to dance around it).

he also mentioned hanging out with his friend Moon a few weeks ago

I figured this might open a can of worms, but maybe that whole age appropriate relationship thing will work better for him.

He's mentioned doing things with Moon (and her kid, and the kid's friend) in just about every episode for the past month, after announcing he was "dating age-appropriately."

BTW gossiping aside, the Amstell interview was the best one in months, I thought (and was delightedly surprised by).

Yeah, that was great. After watching a bunch of Never Mind the Buzzcocks on Youtube, it was pretty cool to hear him being a normal, insecure human being.

I'm not going to get to listen to it for at least a couple of days, but I'm really curious about the Ron White one. And the one with Dr. Bronner's son, too, of course!

I haven't listened by my girlfriend just heard the Bronner episode and he mentions dating Moon.

And she said "he said everyone seemed to have guessed already".

Ron White was great because Ron White is great. The handwringing explanation of the Moon relationship made me feel sad for them both that he feels he has to get into it at all.

I haven't listened to WTF in many many weeks. Was going to break my dry spell with the Ron White one, so I check the thread and find out he's seeing Moon Zappa now? I thought there was something going on with them, even if neither was acting on it at the time the interview was taped.

Listening to him tell the Moon story now, and when this inevitably falls apart after he's invested himself so deeply in something that sounds perhaps a little volatile, he's going to be a fucking mess for years.

Or it might work out. However, this is Marc Maron we're talking about.

yeah, i was thinking that someone with a young child might have a little less tolerance for a guy whose default relationsip mode seems to be throwing rage fits.

or someone calm and grounded might be better for him than someone who throws such rage fits that he once changed all the locks on his house

jon ronson ep is really good ! for a nice change Maron's pretty knowledgeable on the subject matter...though unfortunately that gets annoying pretty quickly because he keeps stepping on Ronson's stories and showing off how much he knows. but it's still cool, i can dig it

I only know about Bohemian Grove because I read Them a long time ago. That was where I first heard of Alex Jones too.

I was thinking about the Grove last week because of where True Detective was heading

i find ronson so endearing! he's just so jazzed about wading around in the muck with all these wackadoodle people, it's awesome

But the Grove. LOL! I'm curious how the group that seemed to have started out as actors and musicians and whatever frolicking in the woods over time morphs into this higher-echelon businessmen/moguls/politicians thing

Billy Connolly ep. is pretty good. He's just so much fun to listen to - I could listen to him read cereal boxes.

i'm bummed that kevin macdonald doesn't get a full hour, but the mcdonald/macdonald mixup is pretty funny (i do a double take whenever i see the director's name too, the KitH version is the one true Kevin for me).
