Moon Zappa, huh?

licorice oratorio (baaderonixx), Tuesday, 11 February 2014 14:37 (twelve years ago)

this is the second time he's talked about the "Powell Doctrine" being some business/ government conspiracy plan from the 60s. What is the actual thing he's referring to?

I got the glares, the mutterings, the snarls (President Keyes), Tuesday, 11 February 2014 14:38 (twelve years ago)

i mean the actual name of thing. it's obv. not the Powell Doctrine.

I got the glares, the mutterings, the snarls (President Keyes), Tuesday, 11 February 2014 14:40 (twelve years ago)

Moon Zappa, huh?

So are they dating now? (I'm way behind on my listening, just got to the Billy Braver one yesterday) Not surprised by the heavy flirting during her interview, from both of 'em.

an enormous bolus of flatulence (jon /via/ chi 2.0), Tuesday, 11 February 2014 15:19 (twelve years ago)

so crazy - i skipped the Moon Zappa one bc my tolerance of Marc + musicians is nearly nil, but my wife said that it was unlistenable because there was so much hostility and sniping in the air... it appears that "hostility and sniping" is marc's equivalent of flirting!

sean gramophone, Tuesday, 11 February 2014 15:30 (twelve years ago)

It's been awhile since I listened, but I honestly don't recall much sniping, it was really friendly from what I recall.

i think people mis-read the interview as Maron being disrespectful by asking to many questions about Frank, but it seemed clear they already knew each other pretty well

I got the glares, the mutterings, the snarls (President Keyes), Tuesday, 11 February 2014 15:39 (twelve years ago)

xp yeah didn't hear any sniping tbh (beyond Marc teasing her by asking 2-3 times what exactly it is that she does). It was pretty obv these two go way back and are pretty comfortable around each other.

licorice oratorio (baaderonixx), Tuesday, 11 February 2014 15:40 (twelve years ago)

feel very silly saying it but i totally called this. it crossed my mind during the zappa interview, then when he started being coy about seeing somebody that's what popped into my head (i mean, if he was dating someone whose name no one would recognize then there would be no need to dance around it).

festival culture (Jordan), Tuesday, 11 February 2014 17:59 (twelve years ago)

he also mentioned hanging out with his friend Moon a few weeks ago

I got the glares, the mutterings, the snarls (President Keyes), Tuesday, 11 February 2014 18:39 (twelve years ago)

oh right that too

festival culture (Jordan), Tuesday, 11 February 2014 18:49 (twelve years ago)

Kind of amazed he can get anyone to date him, tbh.

Kiarostami bag (milo z), Tuesday, 11 February 2014 18:56 (twelve years ago)

lol

I figured this might open a can of worms, but maybe that whole age appropriate relationship thing will work better for him.

an enormous bolus of flatulence (jon /via/ chi 2.0), Tuesday, 11 February 2014 18:56 (twelve years ago)

so is this what all his "trying to get into captain beefheart" schtick was about last year?

how's life, Tuesday, 11 February 2014 19:01 (twelve years ago)

loooool

an enormous bolus of flatulence (jon /via/ chi 2.0), Tuesday, 11 February 2014 19:04 (twelve years ago)

lol

the Norwegians are leaving! (Sufjan Grafton), Tuesday, 11 February 2014 19:04 (twelve years ago)

He's mentioned doing things with Moon (and her kid, and the kid's friend) in just about every episode for the past month, after announcing he was "dating age-appropriately."

(D1CK$) (sic), Tuesday, 11 February 2014 21:01 (twelve years ago)

BTW gossiping aside, the Amstell interview was the best one in months, I thought (and was delightedly surprised by).

(D1CK$) (sic), Tuesday, 11 February 2014 21:03 (twelve years ago)

Yeah, that was great. After watching a bunch of Never Mind the Buzzcocks on Youtube, it was pretty cool to hear him being a normal, insecure human being.

Bell, ball, bone, boot. No surprises. (GOTT PUNCH II HAWKWINDZ), Tuesday, 11 February 2014 21:48 (twelve years ago)

I'm not going to get to listen to it for at least a couple of days, but I'm really curious about the Ron White one. And the one with Dr. Bronner's son, too, of course!

Bell, ball, bone, boot. No surprises. (GOTT PUNCH II HAWKWINDZ), Thursday, 13 February 2014 09:42 (twelve years ago)

I haven't listened by my girlfriend just heard the Bronner episode and he mentions dating Moon.

dan selzer, Saturday, 15 February 2014 19:38 (twelve years ago)

And she said "he said everyone seemed to have guessed already".

He reads this thread, right?

dan selzer, Saturday, 15 February 2014 19:39 (twelve years ago)

I like how detailed he gets with the timeline of their relationship--possibly to prevent people thinking he was cheating on jess

I got the glares, the mutterings, the snarls (President Keyes), Saturday, 15 February 2014 19:40 (twelve years ago)

Ron White was great because Ron White is great. The handwringing explanation of the Moon relationship made me feel sad for them both that he feels he has to get into it at all.

EZ Snappin, Saturday, 15 February 2014 19:41 (twelve years ago)

^this. I don't really listen to the opening monologue stuff if I can help it, but man I always get the creeps when he starts talking about his relationships.

how's life, Saturday, 15 February 2014 23:59 (twelve years ago)

jason isbell has apparently recorded a wtf episode with maron :D

set the controls for the heart of the sun (VegemiteGrrl), Sunday, 16 February 2014 04:09 (twelve years ago)

I haven't listened to WTF in many many weeks. Was going to break my dry spell with the Ron White one, so I check the thread and find out he's seeing Moon Zappa now? I thought there was something going on with them, even if neither was acting on it at the time the interview was taped.

Johnny Fever, Sunday, 16 February 2014 04:38 (twelve years ago)

yeah i thought the same

set the controls for the heart of the sun (VegemiteGrrl), Sunday, 16 February 2014 04:39 (twelve years ago)

"Man, I used to have such a crush on you." "Aw, I used to have such a crush on you, too!" "Ha ha, what a shame we never knew and didn't do anything about it."

(D1CK$) (sic), Sunday, 16 February 2014 11:51 (twelve years ago)

uh oh wonder if Moon is going to on the mic all the time now

I got the glares, the mutterings, the snarls (President Keyes), Monday, 17 February 2014 14:46 (twelve years ago)

Listening to him tell the Moon story now, and when this inevitably falls apart after he's invested himself so deeply in something that sounds perhaps a little volatile, he's going to be a fucking mess for years.

Or it might work out. However, this is Marc Maron we're talking about.

Johnny Fever, Wednesday, 19 February 2014 23:29 (twelve years ago)

heard Maron on a Grantland podcast today--he gets way bummed out when the interviewer keeps asking him why he never went for coffee with Jon Stewart

I got the glares, the mutterings, the snarls (President Keyes), Thursday, 20 February 2014 00:17 (twelve years ago)

yeah, i was thinking that someone with a young child might have a little less tolerance for a guy whose default relationsip mode seems to be throwing rage fits.

I got the glares, the mutterings, the snarls (President Keyes), Thursday, 20 February 2014 11:58 (twelve years ago)

or someone calm and grounded might be better for him than someone who throws such rage fits that he once changed all the locks on his house

(D1CK$) (sic), Thursday, 20 February 2014 12:34 (twelve years ago)

Again I'm way behind, but boy this Patrick Stickles interview is making me re-think how much I actually like Titus Andronicus.

an enormous bolus of flatulence (jon /via/ chi 2.0), Monday, 24 February 2014 18:46 (twelve years ago)

the last album did that for me

i have the new brutal HOOS if you want it (BIG HOOS aka the steendriver), Monday, 24 February 2014 19:39 (twelve years ago)

Ha, true, but they'd earner a pass on that one by how awesome the previous two were.

an enormous bolus of flatulence (jon /via/ chi 2.0), Monday, 24 February 2014 20:51 (twelve years ago)

jon ronson ep is really good ! for a nice change Maron's pretty knowledgeable on the subject matter...though unfortunately that gets annoying pretty quickly because he keeps stepping on Ronson's stories and showing off how much he knows. but it's still cool, i can dig it

man I need to brush up on my conspiracies, I'd never heard of bohemian grove

set the controls for the heart of the sun (VegemiteGrrl), Wednesday, 26 February 2014 20:00 (twelve years ago)

i interviewed JR once, he was rad

socki (s1ocki), Wednesday, 26 February 2014 20:00 (twelve years ago)

I know a bohemian grover!

polyphonic, Wednesday, 26 February 2014 20:02 (twelve years ago)

I only know about Bohemian Grove because I read Them a long time ago. That was where I first heard of Alex Jones too.

I got the glares, the mutterings, the snarls (President Keyes), Wednesday, 26 February 2014 20:42 (twelve years ago)

I was thinking about the Grove last week because of where True Detective was heading

I got the glares, the mutterings, the snarls (President Keyes), Wednesday, 26 February 2014 20:44 (twelve years ago)

i find ronson so endearing! he's just so jazzed about wading around in the muck with all these wackadoodle people, it's awesome

set the controls for the heart of the sun (VegemiteGrrl), Wednesday, 26 February 2014 20:59 (twelve years ago)

But the Grove. LOL! I'm curious how the group that seemed to have started out as actors and musicians and whatever frolicking in the woods over time morphs into this higher-echelon businessmen/moguls/politicians thing

the giant owl thing is AWESOME, like wtf

set the controls for the heart of the sun (VegemiteGrrl), Wednesday, 26 February 2014 21:03 (twelve years ago)

love that when Tom Arnold makes an aside about his sister being the meth lord of mid-west, Maron's only follow up question is "So your whole family is famous, huh?"

I got the glares, the mutterings, the snarls (President Keyes), Thursday, 27 February 2014 14:50 (twelve years ago)

Billy Connolly ep. is pretty good. He's just so much fun to listen to - I could listen to him read cereal boxes.

Survivalist Compound Row (B.L.A.M.), Friday, 7 March 2014 23:15 (twelve years ago)

ooh I will have to listen, i have loved him since I was a kid

set the controls for the heart of the sun (VegemiteGrrl), Saturday, 8 March 2014 02:56 (twelve years ago)

Connolly was great. Wish he had a regular podcast.

EZ Snappin, Saturday, 8 March 2014 04:10 (twelve years ago)

he should narrate audiobooks

set the controls for the heart of the sun (VegemiteGrrl), Saturday, 8 March 2014 04:45 (twelve years ago)

i'm bummed that kevin macdonald doesn't get a full hour, but the mcdonald/macdonald mixup is pretty funny (i do a double take whenever i see the director's name too, the KitH version is the one true Kevin for me).
