Merciful heavens! What is to become of us now?

Aimless, Thursday, 6 February 2014 19:49 (twelve years ago)

Marijne from MTV/Salad is quintessential 90s Hot: Indie Edition.

What is wrong with songs? Absolutely nothing. Songs are great. (DL), Thursday, 6 February 2014 19:58 (twelve years ago)

Those two sites came up with nothing.

I looked through rougly 40 of those Heave Ho threads, just way too many of them and only a few really interested me. He should've kept it all in one thread.

three weeks pass...

Susannah Hoffs sings "Feel Like Makin' Love" in 1991:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ol4MaEPayv0

Yeah I know this is an 80s star singing a 70s song but everything else about this -- the way the music sounds, the dancing, the shirt she's wearing -- is 90s 90s 90s hot hot hot

Guayaquil (eephus!), Wednesday, 5 March 2014 04:05 (twelve years ago)

also the way she's dancing is kind of like monica in that friends flashback episode where she's trying to convince chandler that she finds knives sexy.

I never knew that Joey Potter was the lead singer of the Sundays

Kiarostami bag (milo z), Wednesday, 5 March 2014 15:27 (twelve years ago)

I grew a big beard in high school. I saw it just as the next step after growing a goatee (after Layne Staley). Anyway, it ended up like Chris Barron. Just looking at that kinda makes me want to shave the much more modest beard that I've grown now.

haha! i remember seeing the spin doctors at an amusement park (my friends and i went to see material issue and i think they played together? i can't even remember) and that little guy was dancing around onstage like a muppet. it struck me as something i had definitely never seen before. that's all i remember about it.

we slowly invented brains (La Lechera), Wednesday, 5 March 2014 16:42 (twelve years ago)

Swear to God, I think more people on this board have seen the Spin Doctors than any other band.

pplains, Wednesday, 5 March 2014 16:55 (twelve years ago)

i saw them by accident, it was definitely not on purpose

we slowly invented brains (La Lechera), Wednesday, 5 March 2014 18:23 (twelve years ago)

Screaming Trees were opening. Only reason.

Same here, same here.

I don't know what's so embarrassing to yo all "Two Princes" is a stone cold jam.

Airwrecka Bliptrap Blapmantis (ENBB), Wednesday, 5 March 2014 18:36 (twelve years ago)

I'd put that up against "Time Speaks Her Golden Tongue" or "Invisible Lantern" any day.

set the trolls for the heart of the sun (how's life), Wednesday, 5 March 2014 18:47 (twelve years ago)

ENBB OTM. I occasionally get the impression I should be embarrassed when, for example, I put 'Two Princes' on a jukebox. But it's so good.

The Whittrick and Puddock (dowd), Wednesday, 5 March 2014 19:08 (twelve years ago)

i hope you guys bop around like hippie fraggles while you sing the "doo doo bop! ba da ba da ba da ba da ba da ba da" part

we slowly invented brains (La Lechera), Wednesday, 5 March 2014 19:18 (twelve years ago)

You pay money to listen to that song?

These are the real differences of my generation. How we're all basically 38.7 years old now, but once you start bringing up 1993 shit, the contrasts betwen Nixon, Ford and Carter babies are magnified.

I look down my snooty nose at people a year younger than me who got into Offspring while the Class of '90 shakes its damn head at me for still standing up for Green Day.

pplains, Wednesday, 5 March 2014 20:33 (twelve years ago)

lol totally
38.5 -- no green day!! blech.

we slowly invented brains (La Lechera), Wednesday, 5 March 2014 20:38 (twelve years ago)

As someone who is 1 1/2 weeks away from turning 39, I feel comfortable declaring Green Day, Offspring, and Spin Doctors all terrible, but the Spin Doctors are clearly the worst of the 3. In fairness though, "Two Princes" is slighly better than the execrable "Little Miss Can't Be Wrong".

the guitar solo in "2 princes" is one of the most hilarious 10 second intervals in any piece of music ever

1 P.3. Eternal (roxymuzak), Wednesday, 5 March 2014 21:55 (twelve years ago)

Being several years younger than 38.5, I've never been able to keep Collective Soul and the Spin Doctors separate.
Which one did "Runaway Train"?

kinder, Wednesday, 5 March 2014 22:03 (twelve years ago)

that's a very 90s look. eyebrows, matte face, purple/brown lipstick, large weird pattern, bloused shirt, crunchy curls.

1 P.3. Eternal (roxymuzak), Wednesday, 5 March 2014 22:04 (twelve years ago)

like, that is how i remember the 90s. if the 90s were a person she would be styled like that.

1 P.3. Eternal (roxymuzak), Wednesday, 5 March 2014 22:04 (twelve years ago)

my early 90s girlfriend had crunchy curls but did not drape herself in a flowered bedspread

Guayaquil (eephus!), Wednesday, 5 March 2014 22:33 (twelve years ago)

HBC is a reasonably accurate embodiment of the '90s.
At least 50% that look and 50% Corin Tucker upthread.

Still cool (if this gets removed, it's Gillian Anderson and David Duchovny)
